Abstract

Yogyakarta International Airport has high power demands, supplied by GI Wates with a subscribed capacity of 2 × 8.66 MVA and five generator sets (gensets) each with a capacity of 2.5 MVA. Due to fluctuating flight schedules, all gensets operate simultaneously, leading to inefficient fuel consumption. This study aims to optimize the genset operation pattern using the Lagrange method based on historical energy and fuel consumption trends. The results show that only genset 1 operates optimally (83.26%) under normal conditions. In the event of a genset failure, the load is redistributed to other gensets with lower output to maintain efficiency and reliability. This approach increases efficiency, reduces fuel consumption, and extends engine lifespan. The optimization supports more energy-efficient and reliable airport operations.

Abstract

Science education in Indonesian elementary schools currently faces significant challenges in fostering students' critical and scientific thinking skills and positioning them as active learning subjects. A key contributing factor is teachers' insufficient knowledge regarding the effective implementation of Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL), which consequently diminishes student engagement. This phenomenological study, utilising a qualitative approach, investigates elementary school teachers' understanding of IBL and analyses its practical application in science classrooms. Data were gathered through open-ended questionnaires, interviews, and literature review, involving 74 in-service teachers distributed across Indonesia's Western, Central, and Eastern regions. The findings reveal significant conceptual gaps among teachers. Particularly, teachers demonstrated a limited and often inaccurate understanding of IBL's core principles, indicating prevalent misconceptions. This knowledge deficit critically hinders the effective implementation of IBL in science instruction. Furthermore, the study identified pronounced disparities in IBL knowledge between teachers in the Western, Central, and Eastern regions, highlighting distinct regional inequities. The study emphatically concludes that the systemic integration of IBL into elementary science education is imperative. Achieving this necessitates targeted professional development programs specifically designed to address the identified knowledge gaps and regional disparities among teachers.

Abstract

Abstract

The integration of contextualised digital learning resources with inquiry-oriented pedagogical frameworks represents a promising strategy for cultivating critical thinking skills and science literacy in secondary science education. This study reports the development and systematic evaluation of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) e-module integrating the local ecological potential of North Hulu Sungai Regency — specifically the Swargaloka Amuntai nature reserve — for Grade VII ecology and biodiversity instruction under Indonesia's Merdeka Curriculum. Employing the ADDIE instructional design model, the study pursued three sequential objectives: (1) to assess expert-determined feasibility, (2) to evaluate teacher- and student-reported practicality, and (3) to examine classroom effectiveness via a quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test design involving 89 students across three instructional conditions (control, PBL e-module, PBL textbook). Expert validation yielded mean ratings of 3.3 (media) and 3.4 (subject matter), both within the 'very good' category, confirming instructional media quality. Practicality assessments by science teachers and students produced mean scores of 3.87–3.92 ('very good'), indicating strong contextual implementability. Quasi-experimental outcomes revealed medium-category normalised gain (N-gain) scores for critical thinking (0.52–0.61) and science literacy (0.56–0.64) across all groups; however, MANOVA analysis yielded non-significant between-group differences (p = 0.100; p = 0.190), indicating that the module did not produce statistically superior outcomes under the constrained conditions of a four-meeting implementation. These findings underscore the pivotal role of implementation duration, prior PBL exposure, and technology accessibility as moderating variables of e-module effectiveness, while affirming the module's validated quality and practical viability as a contextualised science learning resource.
