Abstract

In producing palm oil-based biodiesel (fatty acid methyl esters) through the transesterification of triglycerides with methanol, a high-performance and straightforward catalyst is required. This research studies the synthesis and characterization of limestone-derived calcium oxide as a heterogeneous base catalyst for the transesterification of tripalmitin, a representation of palm oil triglycerides, with methanol to produce methyl palmitate. Limestone was calcined at 800 °C to produce CaO. The resulting catalyst was characterized using TGA, XRD, FTIR, SAA, and CO2-TPD. The catalytic performance was compared with that of commercial calcium oxide under optimal reaction conditions, namely 50 °C temperature, 60 min reaction time, and 30 mg catalyst mass. The results showed that limestone-derived CaO produced a higher yield (44.6%) than commercial CaO (32.3%). The kinetics study showed that the reaction followed a two-order pseudo-kinetic model with a reaction rate constant value of 0.1450 L mmol-1 min-1. Overall, limestone-derived CaO proved to be an effective, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly alternative catalyst in the production of triglyceride-based biodiesel. Furthermore, the modification of CaO to enhance the catalytic activity needs to be explored further. Copyright © 2025 by Authors, Published by BCREC Publishing Group. Abstract

Inclusive education aims to provide quality education for all students, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds. This study focuses on the collaboration between chemistry teachers and shadow teachers in delivering inclusive chemistry lessons. The research identifies the collaboration model employed and evaluates its effectiveness. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used, involving chemistry teachers, shadow teachers, and students with disabilities as participants. Students with disabilities in this research such as blind, low vision, and multiple disabilities (cerebral palsy and slow learner). Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document reviews, followed by an interactive analysis based on Miles and Huberman’s model. Findings reveal that inclusive education at Permata High School aligns with national education standards. The collaboration between chemistry teachers and shadow teachers primarily occurs outside the classroom, focusing on learning implementation and assessment rather than lesson planning. The chemistry teacher planned the lesson with the consideration of the shadow teacher as a consultant. As for the implementation in the class, only some subjects on Friday will be assisted by the shadow teacher with permission from students with disabilities. For the subjects that occur on another day, the shadow teacher would get the assessment that needs to be translated. Based on the activities during pre-class, at class, and after class, the collaboration between the chemistry teacher and shadow teacher was categorized as a traditional teaching practice. Key challenges include a disproportionate ratio of disabled students to shadow teachers, limited training for chemistry teachers in inclusive education, and inadequate learning media for complex chemistry concepts.        Keywords: collaborative teaching, inclusive education, shadow teacher, blind, multiple disabilities.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i3.pp1347-1360

Abstract

Elderly individuals who have been exposed to psychosis (schizophrenia) since youth or adulthood will experience severe cognitive function decline, such as memory deficits, executive function, and attention. Other cognitive functions are also affected, including language function, intelligence, and orientation. Montessori activities are activities that are tailored to the interests and skills of clients and can be applied to stimulate or prevent cognitive decline in the elderly. This study aims to determine the effect of Montessori activities on the cognitive abilities of chronic schizophrenic psychogeriatric clients. The research design is a quasi-experimental study with a non-randomized control group pre-post test design. Data collection used the MMSE (Mini Mental State Examination) questionnaire or Folstein test twice, before and after the intervention. The sample size was 30 people, divided into 15 people in the experimental group and 15 people in the control group. The research was conducted at the Laras Jiwo Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center in the Magelang Regency area from September to November 2022. The results showed that Montessori activities did not significantly affect the improvement of cognitive abilities (MMSE score), as evidenced by the Mann-Whitney test results with the difference coefficient of the posttest between the experimental and control groups obtained a z-value of -1.579 and a p-value of 0.114 (p>0.05). However, the difference coefficient between pre and post in the experimental group showed a significant difference with a z-value of -3.436 and a p-value of 0.001 (p<0.05), thus it can be concluded that Montessori activities still have an effect on improving MMSE in the experimental group.
