Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the use of nickel modified clay as heterogeneous catalyst for the production of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) from crude palm oil (CPO). The catalyst was prepared by Ni2+- exchanged cation supported on clay under controlled conditions. The results of X-ray Fluorescence analysis (XRF) indicated that Ni2+- exchanged cation modified on support of clay. The results of X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed that support of clay with characteristic of kaolinite mineral. Effect of supports of clay (h-clay and c/h-clay) and effect of nickel precursors (nickel sulfate and nickel nitrate) on the catalytic performance of heterogeneous catalysts in the transesterification reaction of CPO were investigated. The obtained data showed that transesterification processes at oil/methanol ratio of 1 : 6, reaction temperature of 85 oC, catalyst/methanol ratio of 1 : 10, and reaction time of 4 h produced yield of 51,19% FAME, 1,9% FAME, 4,74% FAME, and 47,8% FAME for catalytic performance of h-clay, c/h-clay, h-clay/Ni-Sulfate and h-clay/Ni-Nitrate, respectively. Ni2+- exchanged cation supported on h-clay prepared using two different precursors, nickel nitrate indicating higher catalytic activity than nickel sulfate.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan sintesis dan karakterisasi struktur dan sifat optik nanopartikel silika yang dilapisi nanopartikel emas. Sintesis dilakukan pada suhu 95 °C dengan variasi rasio mol APTES terhadap gugus silanol pada nanopartikel silika sebesar 1,0 dan 1,4  serta Au 0,1 dan 0,2 ml. Karakterisasi dilakukan menggunakan FTIR, SEM-EDS, dan Spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Spektrum FTIR menunjukkan adanya ikatan antara APTES dengan silika pada daerah serapan sekitar 1500 cm-1 dan keberadaan nanopartikel emas ditunjukkan dari hasil SEM-EDS. Karakterisasi SEM  menunjukkan nanopartikel emas menempel pada permukaan silika. Respon magnetik sampel ditunjukkan dari hasil spektrofotometer UV-Vis dengan dua puncak yaitu resonansi dipol dan resonansi kuadrupol.Kata kunci: APTES, nanopartikel emas, nanopartikel silika, respon magnetik, sifat optik

Abstract

Pembuatan karbon aktif dari Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit (TKS) sebagai elektroda superkapasitor sudah diteliti. Karbon aktif dibuat dari proses karbonisasi dan aktivasi menggunakan Kalium Hidroksida (KOH). Karbon aktif TKS dikarbonisasi melalui pembakaran sampel pada suhu 400°C dan diaktivasi dengan KOH pada suhu 800°C dalam lingkungan gas nitrogen. Karbon aktif TKS dikarakterisasi menggunakan Energi Dispersive X-Ray (EDX),  X-Ray Difraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Miscroscopy (SEM), Surface Area Analyzer (SAA).  Komposisi unsur karbon yang dihasilkan dari karbon aktif TKS adalah sebesar 88,93 %wt.  Struktur kristalit dari  karbon aktif TKS menunjukkan struktur amorf pada sudut 2θ 26,20° dan 43,08°. Hasil analisis SAA dengan metode Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) didapatkan luas permukaan karbon aktif TKS sebesar 898,229 m2/g. Pengukuran sifat listrik karbon Aktif TKS sebagai elektroda superkapasitor menggunakan larutan elktrolit H2SO4 1M dengan metoda Cyclic Voltametry (CV) didapatkan nilai kapasitansi spesifik sebesar 107,83 F/g. Preparation of activated carbon from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (TKS) as a supercapacitor electrode has been investigated. Activated carbon is made from carbonization and activation processes using Potassium Hydroxide (KOH). Activated carbon TKS is carbonized by burning the sample at 400°C and activated with KOH at 800°C in a nitrogen gas environment. Activated carbon TKS was characterized using Energi Dispersive X-Ray (EDX), X-Ray Difraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Miscroscopy (SEM), Surface Area Analyzer (SAA). The composition of the element carbon produced from activated carbon TKS is 88.93% wt. The crystallite structure of TKS activated carbon shows an amorphous structure at an angle of 2θ 26,20° and 43,08°. The results of the SAA analysis by the Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) method showed that the surface area of the TKS activated carbon was 898.229 m2/g. Measurement of electrical properties of activated carbon TKS as a supercapacitor electrode using a 1M H2SO4 electrolyte solution with the Cyclic Voltametry (CV) method obtained specific capacitance values of 107.83 F /g.

Abstract

Mineral lempung yang diperoleh dari Kabupaten Solok, Sumatera Barat, telah dimodifikasi secara fisika melalui pemanasan pada 105°C, 450°C dan 850°C. Aktivitas katalitiknya telah diuji dalam transesterifikasi minyak jelantah untuk menghasilkan metil ester asam lemak. Komposisi utama lempung ditemukan terdiri dari Si, Al dan Fe serta unsur-unsur minor lainnya seperti K, Ti, Na, Ca Mg, dan Mn (pengukuran XRF). Jenis mineral utama sampel lempung adalah kaolinite dan illite (karakterisasi XRD). Kalsinasi pada suhu 850 °C mengakibatkan penurunan fasa kaolinit yang menandakan telah terjadi transformasi parsial menjadi metakaolin (analisis XRD). Pengujian aktivitas katalitik di bawah kondisi reaksi tertentu dari semua lempung menunjukkan bahwa lempung yang dikalsinasi pada 850°C menghasilkan dua jenis senyawa biodiesel yaitu metil ester asam palmitat dan metil ester asam oleat (analisis GC-MS). Tanah liat yang dipanaskan pada suhu 110 dan 450 oC sama sekali tidak menunjukkan aktivitas katalitik

Abstract

Research has been carried out on inhibitors from matoa leaf extract to inhibit the corrosion rate of SS-304 carbon steel. The Matao leaf extract used as an inhibitor was immersed in a 1 M H2SO4 corrosive medium. To determine the effect of inhibitor concentration and immersion temperature on steel corrosion, various inhibitor concentrations were varied, namely 0%, 1%, 2%, and 3% bt, and temperature variations, namely samples also in XRD and SEM characterization. 35°C and 40°C. The corrosion rate test was carried out using the weight loss method. The increase in the corrosion rate is in line with the increase in sample weight loss. The most efficient inhibitor of matoa leaf extract was obtained at a concentration of 3% with an immersion temperature of 35°C, namely 0.09 mmpy. The XRD results showed that the maximum peaks produced FeC and FeNi crystals, followed by FeO crystals. SEM characterization also showed that samples without inhibitors were more corroded, and samples using 3% inhibitor concentrations were slightly corroded.

Abstract

Fokus studi ini adalah mensintesis material berbasis montmorillonit K-10 yang dimodifikasi dengan spesies Ni2+ melalui metoda hidrotermal. Pengaruh aktivasi termal terhadap support montmorillonit K-10 pada proses pertukaran kation untuk menghasilkan katalis heterogen dikarakterisasi dengan x-raydiffraction (XRD) dan x-ray fluoressence (XRF). Analisis XRF sampel menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan pertukaran kation sampel montmorillonit K-10 terhadap Ni2+ berdampak pada peningkatan kandungan nikel pada semua sampel yang dimodifikasi dibandingkan dengan yang tidak dimodifikasi. Analisis XRD terhadap struktur sampel yang dimodifikasi mengungkapkan bahwa struktur dasar clay 2:1 (T:O:T) tahan selama proses pertukaran kation. Kinerja katalis heterogen yang dihasilkan diuji pada reaksi transesterifikasi minyak jelantah dengan metanol untuk produksi FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl ester) (biodisel). Evaluasi uji katalitik menunjukkan bahwa montmorillonit K-10 yang dimodifikasi Ni2+ memberikan peningkatan % rendemen FAME. Hal ini mengindikasikan bahwa material montmorillonit K-10 yang dimodifikasi  Ni2+sebagai katalis heterogen yang berpotensi untuk produksi biodisel.

Abstract

The current study examines the catalytic activity of Cu2+-exchanged cation montmorillonite K-10 (MMT K-10) catalyst, which synthesized by hydrothermal method. X-ray fluoressence (XRF) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) were used for characterizing the newly synthesis catalyst. The effect of thermal activation on the support of MMT K-10 with a modifier Cu investigated on its catalytic performance for conversion waste cooking oil to produce fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) by transesterification reaction. Synthesis biodiesel was further characterized by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS). The biodiesel was obtained at transesterification reaction conditions: 3% (w/w) catalyst loading, molar ratio of oil to methanol = 1:10, and 3 h of reaction time at 90°C. The yield of FAME of WCO for MMT K-10, MMT K-10/Cu2+, MMT K-10 (activation 110°C)/Cu2+, MMT K-10 (activation 300°C)/Cu2+ catalysts were the 9,47%; 10,36%; 10,41%; and 12,01% of FAME, respectively. This study exhibites that the activation of thermal on the support MMT K-10 which modified by Cu2+ leads to reduction of the crystal size. The decreasing crystal size contributes on increasing catalytic performance of the heterogeneous catalyst.

Abstract

Activated carbon from corn stalks (Zea mays L.) has been successfully synthesized by the dehydration method and used as a supercapacitor electrode. Corn stalk powder was dehydrated with 1 MH2SO4 and activated with 5 M NaOH at a carbon and activator mass ratio of 1:4 with a heating temperature of 800°C and an N2 gas heating rate of 10°C/minute for 1 hour. SEM characterization results show that heterogeneous pores have formed on the surface of corn stalk-activated carbon. EDX results showed a carbon percentage of 54.82%; this data is supported by FTIR results, which show several functional groups containing C and O atoms on the surface of activated carbon. Based on desorption adsorption isotherm analysis, the activated carbon shows H4 type with a specific surface area of 117.973m2/g, average pore diameter of 1.730 nm and total pore volume of 0.1021 cm3/g. Measurement of the electrochemical properties of corn stalk activated carbon with a three-electrode system and 3 M KOH electrolyte showed a specific capacitance value of 133.9 F/g, power density 225.2 W/kg and energy density 0.863 Wh/kg. The synthesis of activated carbon through the dehydration method offers advantages in terms of simplicity in preparation, low cost, shorter synthesis time and being environmentally friendly.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of variations in the acceptor group of dithiophen-based type D-π-A dyes that are efficiently used as sensitizers in DSSC. The calculation uses the 16W Gaussian program with Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Time Dependent-DFT (TD-DFT) methods with the B3LYP/6-31G set base. Based on the results of the study, it is known that acceptor variations can affect the shift in absorption spectrum and bandgap values. The dye AT5 is predicted to have higher efficiency to be used as a sensitizer, because it has the smallest bandgap value and has a dipole moment value, as well as a larger wavelength. The smaller the bandgap value, the absorbedyu light will shift towards the red shift, and the electron excitation process will be easier. It can be concluded that dyes with cyanide formal acceptors can improve the efficiency of D-π-A type dyes as sensitizers in DSSC.
