Abstract

Body odor is a common problem caused by the interaction between sweat and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Areca nut has potential as a pharmaceutical preparation because it contains secondary metabolite compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and polyphenols which have antibacterial properties. This research aims to extract areca nut seeds using the maceration method with 96% ethanol and formulate them into stick deodorant and lotion with a concentration of 5%. Physical properties tests were carried out to evaluate pH, homogeneity, spreadability, melting point and antibacterial activity. The research results showed that stick deodorant had a pH of 4.5, while lotion deodorant had a pH of 5.5. Both preparations showed good homogeneity without the presence of coarse particles. The spreadability of the lotion was recorded at 5.3 cm, increasing to 5.5 cm with the addition of a 50 gram load. The melting point of bar deodoran is around 80°C, and bar deodorant melts completely within 60 minutes at 100°C. Both types of deodorant showed a significant inhibition zone diameter against bacteria, namely 18.16 mm for lotion and 16.77 mm for stiks. Areca nut extract showed very strong antibacterial activity with an inhibition zone diameter of 20.14 mm.

Abstract

Rhaphidophora pinnata, a plant traditionally recognized for its wound-healing properties, contains active compounds such as megastigmane glycosides and damascenone, known for their anti-inflammatory effects. To enhance efficacy and user comfort, this study focused on developing an R. pinnata leaf extract nanoparticle gel. Previous research from our group highlighted the significant wound-healing potential of a conventional R. pinnata gel. This present study aimed to evaluate the wound-healing efficacy of a novel R. pinnata nanoparticle gel in male Wistar rats, specifically investigating the impact of nanotechnology application. Nanoparticles were successfully formulated via the ionic gelation method, utilizing 0.250 g of R. pinnata extract, 0.1% chitosan, 0.2% sodium tripolyphosphate, and 0.5% Tween 80. Characterization revealed an average nanoparticle size of 165.70±42.76 nm with a zeta potential of 22.0±1.83 mV. The wound-healing efficacy was assessed across five treatment groups: a positive control (Bioplasenton®), a plain gel base (Formula 0), and nanoparticle gels at 0.5% (Formula I), 1% (Formula II), and 1.5% (Formula III) extract concentrations. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA (p <0.05) demonstrated a significant difference in incision wound healing across the groups. Formula III, containing 1.5% R. pinnata nanoparticle extract, exhibited the most superior wound-healing effect, achieving 100% inhibition by day 14, elevated hydroxyproline levels (59 µg/mL), and histologically confirmed excellent skin tissue repair. Formulas II and I followed in efficacy. These compelling findings underscore the significant potential of utilizing nanotechnology in the development of topical preparations for accelerated and effective wound healing.

Abstract

Reducing stunting in children is the first of six Global Nutrition Targets for 2025 and serves as a key indicator in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Stunting is associated with increased risks of illness, mortality, and impaired motor and cognitive development in children. According to the 2022 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI), the prevalence of stunting in Lampung Province decreased to 15.2%, down from 18.5% in 2021. However, in Metro City, the prevalence increased from 7.29% (2021) to 10.4% (2022), with the highest rate recorded in the working area of Yosomulyo Health Center at 11%. This study aims to analyze the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, history of low birth weight (LBW), and immunization status with the incidence of stunting in toddlers. This research is a quantitative study with a case-control analytic design. The population consisted of children aged 1–5 years who experienced stunting in the Yosomulyo Health Center working area between February and June 2024, totaling 84 children (11%). The sample consisted of 45 children in the case group and 90 children in the control group (a 1:2 ratio), selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with SPSS software after conducting a normality test. The analysis showed a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding, history of LBW, and immunization status with the incidence of stunting (p<0.001). Factors such as lack of exclusive breastfeeding, low birth weight, and incomplete immunization are significantly associated with the incidence of stunting. Early prevention of stunting can be achieved through proper pregnancy planning and regular antenatal care.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's essential oil exporters, with high demand from the perfume, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, food, and beverage industries. However, essential oil exports have fluctuated in five destination countries, namely: Singapore, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Germany. This study analyzes Indonesia's competitiveness, trade specialization, and essential oil export performance using Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Export Product Dynamic (EPD), Export Competitiveness Index (ECI), Trade Specialization Index (ISP), Comparative Export Performance (CEP), and Acceleration Ratio (AR) based on UN Comtrade 2014–2023 data with HS code 3301. The results show that Indonesia has a comparative advantage with an average RCA value of 3.53. EPD analysis shows that Germany, the Netherlands, Singapore and Spain are in the Retreat category and Switzerland in the Lost Opportunity category, while the fluctuating ECI indicates unstable competitiveness. ISP confirms Indonesia's position as an essential oil exporter. CEP shows that Indonesia has a relative export advantage over the world average. And AR shows the fluctuating dynamics of export acceleration. To improve competitiveness, product diversification, quality improvement, and more aggressive marketing strategies are needed.

Abstract

The innovation gap in the Indonesian manufacturing sector, where only 20% of companies have adopted Industry 4.0 technology, highlights the need for leadership that fosters innovative behavior. This study examines the influence of transformational leadership on innovative behavior, with knowledge sharing as a mediating variable and self-efficacy as a moderating variable. A quantitative approach was used with 124 employees from manufacturing companies in South Cikarang selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS. The results show that transformational leadership has a significant positive effect on both innovative behavior and knowledge sharing. Knowledge sharing also positively influences innovative behavior and mediates the relationship between transformational leadership and innovative behavior. However, self-efficacy does not significantly moderate the relationship between transformational leadership and innovative behavior. These findings underscore the importance of transformational leadership in encouraging innovation through the facilitation of knowledge exchange. Theoretically, this study contributes to the development of leadership-based innovation models by confirming the role of knowledge sharing as a key mechanism. Practically, it offers insights for organizations to enhance innovation by implementing leadership development programs and strengthening knowledge sharing systems. The study recommends that manufacturing firms invest in leadership and learning infrastructure to remain competitive in the Industry 4.0 era.
