Abstract

Agricultural technology adoption is widely promoted to improve rice productivity; however, its economic impacts within mechanized farming systems remain insufficiently understood from a system-level perspective. This study addresses this gap by examining how technology use influences rice production value within integrated paddy systems. A cross-sectional survey of rice farmers operating in mechanized lowland systems was conducted. Data were analyzed using a multiple linear regression framework to assess the economic effects of agricultural technology use alongside conventional production inputs, with production value employed as the primary performance indicator. The results indicate that agricultural technology use positively influences rice production value, although impacts vary across technology types. Technologies addressing critical production constraints exhibit stronger economic effects than labor-substituting tools. The overall model demonstrates high explanatory power, confirming the relevance of technology adoption within the broader farming system. The findings suggest that technology contributes to economic performance through efficiency-enhancing pathways and improved resource allocation rather than uniform input intensification, highlighting the importance of system coherence. This study provides empirical evidence that context-specific and integrated technology adoption strengthens economic efficiency and supports sustainable mechanized rice farming systems.

Abstract

The increase in the population of ruminants has resulted in an increase in the production of livestock waste which has the potential to be a source of environmental pollutants as well as a potential biogas producer. The study of the biogas potential of ruminant livestock waste in Sidrap Regency was carried out using secondary data from BPS. Biogas potential is calculated by multiplying the ruminant population with the potential for livestock waste production, solid matter content, volatile matter content, and volatile matter biogas production in one year. The potential energy for biogas propulsion from ruminant livestock waste is calculated using the multiplication of the potential for biogas production per year with the methane content of biogas and the energy value of methane gas. The biogas equivalence of LPG gas is calculated by multiplying the biogas potential of ruminant livestock waste by the equivalent per m3 of biogas with LPG. The results of the study show that the biogas potential of ruminant slag waste in Sidrap Regency is 1,071,508.23 m3/year. The potential driving energy of biogas from ruminant livestock waste in Sidrap Regency is 5,400,401.49 kWh/year. The biogas potential of ruminant livestock waste in Sidrap Regency is equivalent to 492.893.79 kg/year LPG. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the potential for renewable energy biogas from ruminant livestock waste in Sidrap Regency is very large.

Abstract

Celery (Apium graveolens L.) is an important horticultural crop widely cultivated and consumed in Indonesia, particularly leaf celery, which is valued for culinary use and traditional medicinal properties. High market demand has driven intensive celery cultivation under a monoculture system in vegetable production centers such as Landasan Ulin Utara, Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan. Long-term monoculture practices are known to potentially degrade soil quality and increase plant susceptibility to diseases, yet information on the chemical characteristics of celery rhizosphere soil in this region remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the chemical properties of celery rhizosphere soil under a monoculture system at three cultivation sites in Banjarbaru. Soil sampling was conducted from August to November 2025, and analyses included soil pH, organic carbon, total nitrogen, C/N ratio, available phosphorus, and exchangeable base cations (K, Ca, Na, and Mg) using standard laboratory methods. The results showed that soil chemical properties were relatively homogeneous across locations and between symptomatic and asymptomatic plants affected by root-knot disease. Overall, the soils exhibited neutral pH, high organic carbon, moderate total nitrogen, high available phosphorus, and relatively unbalanced base cation composition. These findings indicate that root-knot disease occurrence is not directly associated with soil chemical variability but is likely influenced by biological factors in the rhizosphere. The results provide baseline edaphic data to support sustainable soil management and further research on soil biology and disease control in celery cultivation.
