Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major public health problem in many parts of the world, including in West Java Province, Indonesia. By guiding targeted medication, an accurate assessment of TB risk factors can enhance overall efforts to control tuberculosis. This study introduces modelling by integrating Negative Binomial Mixed Models (NBMM) and Random Forest (RF) called the Negative binomial mixed model random forest (NBMMRF) model.  This model is used to identify and assess risk factors associated with the incidence of tuberculosis. First, utilized NBMM to add fixed effects and random effects in the model and compensate for overdispersion. Modelling count data with overdispersion is a crucial problem in epidemiological studies, and the NBMM component in this model provides a flexible. Afterward, we include a Random Forest component in the model, which helps us detect relevant predictive features and change model weights accordingly. The resulting Negative Binomial Mixed Model Random Forest (NBMMRF) has a high accuracy value of up to 0.915. In contrast to simpler models, the NBMMRF model can capture complex and nonlinear interactions between predictors and outcomes.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of stunting in Indonesia has generally experienced a decline, although not significantly. The issue of stunting is not solely caused by a single, simple factor; rather, it is influenced by complex factors. This study aims to analyze the factors associating with stunting in urban areas across Indonesia. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional survey approach. The data were from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey. The sample in this study were children aged 6 to 23 months residing in urban areas across Indonesia. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to examine the associate between the independent variables and the dependent variable. Results: This study found that male (PR = 1.37), history of stunting at birth (PR = 1.41), low birth weight (PR = 2.13), history of tuberculosis (TB) (PR = 4.53) and family wealth status (PR = 2.28) were significantly associated with stunting status among children in urban areas. These factors were identified as key determinants, with their respective prevalence ratios indicating a substantial association with the prevalence of stunting in the population under study. Conclusions: In the urban context, there are predictive factors of stunting prevalence that require serious attention, such as having a history of TB illness and poor environmental health conditions

Abstract

The Youden square design is widely used in experimental research to control two sources of variability, but missing data can compromise the results. Addressing missing data is critical to maintaining the integrity and reliability of such experiments. This paper proposes to adapt the Yates method to handle missing data specifically in Youden square designs. We begin by outlining the structure of the Youden square design and the challenges posed by missing data. The Yates method, known for its robustness in estimating missing data, is adapted to fit this design. We demonstrate its effectiveness through simulations and real-world case studies. The simulation involved generating experimental data with one missing value, and the case study analyzed chemical process research with critical missing data points. The results show that the Yates method maintains statistical validity and improves data completeness compared to traditional methods. Its advantage lies in utilizing Youden's quadratic structure for more accurate estimation. This study highlights the Yates method as a solution to handle missing data, improving the quality and reliability of experimental research.

Abstract

Education has been a fundamental concern and a top priority since the earliest stages of human life. In Islam, the importance of education is deeply rooted, as reflected in the prophetic tradition emphasizing lifelong learning from the womb to the grave. This study aims to compare the educational perspectives of two prominent Muslim scholars, Al-Ghazali and Zakiah Daradjat, particularly regarding the ideal characteristics of a teacher. The research seeks to identify similarities and differences in their views and evaluate their relevance as references for contemporary educators. This qualitative study employs historical and philosophical approaches, utilizing inductive-deductive, comparative, and descriptive methods of analysis. The findings reveal that both Al-Ghazali and Zakiah Daradjat have made significant intellectual contributions to the conceptualization of the teacher's role. While sharing many foundational principles, their perspectives also exhibit distinct differences shaped by their respective historical and cultural contexts. Operationally, their concepts remain applicable and offer valuable insights for modern educators, provided they are adapted to current pedagogical frameworks and enriched through contemporary educational strategies.

Abstract

Adolescent girls in developed and developing countries currently are prone to face malnutrition, both over- and under-nutrition. One of the causes is the shift from traditional to modern diets. This study aimed to determine the factors that influence the dietary behavior of adolescent girls in developed and developing countries. Scoping review performed following the PRISMA-ScR protocol with the Population, Exposure, and Outcome (PEO) approach. Described articles were published between 2014 and 2024, including abstracts and full texts from PubMed, Scopus, and Science Direct databases. The search used the keywords “eating habits*” OR “diet*” OR “dietary intake”, “adolescent girls*” OR “adolescent women*” OR “young women”. The results showed that diets of adolescent girls in both developed and developing countries correlated with malnutrition, characterized by high consumption of fast food that high in sodium and low in fiber. In developed countries, this resulted in obesity, while in developing countries it caused iron and calcium deficiencies. In developed countries, adolescent diets influenced by bullying and media pressure that idealizes thin bodies, thus triggered irregular eating patterns. Meanwhile, in developing countries, low family income, limited access to healthy food in school canteen, lack of time and cooking skills triggered low-nutrition diets. Parental support played an important role in increasing the consumption of healthy foods. Unhealthy diets increased the risk of anemia, obesity, malnutrition, and other eating disorders. Adolescent girls’ eating behavior influenced by nutritional, social, economic, lifestyle, and psychosocial factors.

Abstract

Laboratories play a crucial role in enhancing learning experiences, verifying scientific concepts, and solving problems through scientific methods. However, the implementation of chemistry practicums in schools often faces significant challenges. This study aims to identify the problems hindering the implementation of chemistry practicums and propose alternative solutions to address these issues. A survey method was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach. The population consisted of 45 schools in Aceh, involving 981 grade XII students. A cluster sampling technique selected 13 schools, comprising 80 participants, including principals, chemistry teachers, and students. Data were collected through validated instruments, including observation sheets, response questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The findings revealed several obstacles, including inadequate laboratory infrastructure, unprepared teachers, insufficient tools and materials, limited supporting facilities, and a lack of laboratory staff. To overcome these challenges, alternative solutions were suggested, such as conducting practicums in classrooms through demonstrations, utilizing natural materials and virtual media, aligning practicums with learning standards, adopting blended learning models, and recruiting laboratory staff. These proposed solutions provide practical approaches to improving chemistry practicum implementation in public high schools, ensuring students gain hands-on learning experiences and enhancing their understanding of scientific concepts.
