Abstract

Malassezia fufur is normal flora on the skin and will turn into a pathogen under certain conditions that support fungal growth, such as poor personal hygiene, in addition to environmental factor such as high temperature aand humidity, sweat gland production, and malnutrition. The Malasszia furfur causes pityriasis Versicolor. The aim of this research was to identify the Malassezia furfur in inmates of class II A Women’s Prison Sungguminasa. Thisresearch was conducted at the Microbiology Laboratori, Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University. The samples were taken at Class II A Women’s Prison Sungguminasa. Samples were taken from 10 respondents in the from of skin swabs suffering from Pityriasis Versicolor, then inoculated on SDA media which had been added with chloramphenicol and the incubated at 37oC for 7 days. Based on macroscopic obsevations, colonies had the characteristics of the Malassezia furfur. Determining microscopic morphology, colony preparation were made with Lactophenol catton blue staining and then observed under a microscope with 40 time magnification . The research result showed that no prison were infected with the Malassezia furfur.

Abstract

Candida albicans is a normal microflora that lives in the human body, inculding in the oral cavity, skin, nails, respirator tract, and digestive tract. In the oral cavity, changes in the form of Candida albicans from commensel to pathogenic resulting in oral candidiasis are caused by predisposing factors, including disruption of the normal flora of the oral cavity due to long- term use of broad- spectrum antibiotics, excessive use of mouthwash, irritation due to the use of dentures, lack of maintaining oral hygiene, immune disorders due to diseases such as AIDS, Diabetes mellitus. The purpose of this study was to determine the results of oral candidiasis screening on the saliva of assisted citizens at the Sungguminasa Class IIA Women’s Correctional Institution. The samples used were saliva from assisted residents at the Sungguminasa Class IIA Women’s Community Institution. Saliva samples was screened for Candida albicans fungus by examination using the culture method for 3 – 7 days and continued with gram staining. Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that from 10 (100%) samples obtained 7 (70%) positive samples of Candida albicans with a maximum number of colonies of 65 colonies and at least 2 colonies with an averge colony count of 22.71. While 3 (30%) samples were negative for Candida albicans. The conclusion of the screening results obtained showed that the samples that were examined and obtained positive resutls were said not to be infected with oral candidiasis, but the identified Candida albicans was still classified as normal flora in the oral cavity, this is because the number of colonies in the positive sampel <100 which showed no increase in colonies.

Abstract

Candida albicans is a member of the normal flora found in the mocous membranes, digestive tract, respiratory tract, urethera, vagina, skin and nails of the hands and feet. Candida albicans can grow at various pH levels, but generally, growth will be better at a pH between 4,5-6,5. The type of research used qualitative descriptive research. This research aimed to detect Candida albicans fungus in the urine of women inmates at the Sungguminasa Class IIA Women’s Penitentiary with symptoms vaginal discharge. Reproductive health problems in women that need attention are reproductive tract infections, one of which is vaginal discharge. 75%  of women in the world have experienced vaginal discharge at least once in their lifetime. This research was conducted at the Sungguminasa Class IIA Women’s Prison. The samples were taken from 11 respondents in the form of the urine of the women who were experiencing vaginal discharge, then inoculated on SDA media which had been added with chloramphenicol and then incubated at 37oC for 7 days. The results was a ccolony that had the characteristics of Candida albicans fungus based on macroscopic observations, namely round shape, white cream color, and soft texture. Slightly wrinkled in old colonies, the surface was raised and there was a characteristic yeast smell. Determination of microsopic morphology. Colony preparations were made using gram staining and then observed under a microscope with 10x10 magnification. The research results showed that 6 samples were positive for c. albicans, and 5 samples were negative for C. albicans.

Abstract

Worms are a disease caused by intestinal  parasitic worms with a fairly high prevalence and spread throughout Indonesia. Intestinal worm infections are a chronic infection that mostly attacks children under five and elementary school age children. The aim of this research is to determine whether there are worms in children's feces at Pa'bentengan landfill using the centrifuge floatation method. The benefit of this research is to increase knowledge about worms and how important it is to maintain cleanliness in preventing worm infections. This research was conducted at Megarezky University. 20 Stool samples were taken at Pa'bentengan Gowa TPA. The research samples were then carried out using the Centrifuge Floatation method, the screening examination was continued by observing using a microscope with 10x, 40x magnification. Based on the research results, 13 samples were positive for worms and 7 samples were negatiffor worms. Having personal hygiene and a dirty living environment makes it possible for someone to be infected with worm

Abstract

Helminthiasis is an infectious disease caused by parasitic worms from the intestinal nematode group, which includes Soil-Transmitted Helminths (Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, Hookworm, Strongyloides stercoralis) and Non-Soil-Transmitted Helminths (Enterobius vermicularis, Trichinella spiralis). This infection is common among elementary school-aged children, especially those frequently in contact with soil, such as child scavengers. The objective of this study was to identify intestinal nematode species in the feces of child scavengers at the Tamangapa Antang landfill. Conducted at Megarezky University, the study analyzed 24 fecal samples collected from child scavengers. The samples were examined using the flotation method, and nematode egg morphology was identified under a microscope at magnifications of 40x to 100x. The findings showed that 17 samples (71%) were positive for nematode eggs, while 7 samples (29%) were negative.

Abstract

The landfill is a landfill that is known for its humid and dirty environment so that it can pose a risk for people living in the area to be infected with nail fungus. This study aims to conduct screening or initial examination to find out if there is dermatophyte fungus on scavenger's nails. The research was descriptive as many as 10 samples of scavenger nails obtained by purposive sampling technique and examined at the DIII Tropical Infection Laboratory, Medical Laboratory Technology, Megarezky University, Makassar. The examination methods used are the direct method and the culture method. Based on the identification using the direct method, it showed that there were no hyphae or spores (negative) and continued with the culture method and obtained the results of 6 samples there were dermatophyte fungi, namely Trichophyton rubrum, Epidermophyton flocossum, and Microsporum gypseum. There were six people infected with fungus on the nails and the fungal species were Trichophyton rubrum, Epidermophyton flocossum, and Microsporum gypseum.
