Abstract

Abstract

Enggano Island is situated above the southern segment of the Sunda megathrust, making it highly vulnerable to earthquake and tsunami hazards. In remote coastal villages, such as Kaana, the lack of adequate evacuation infrastructure presents significant challenges for disaster risk reduction. This study aims to evaluate tsunami evacuation strategies using an agent-based modeling approach implemented in a three-dimensional simulation environment. A purposive sampling survey involving 83 residents was conducted to collect socio-demographic data, tsunami awareness, preparedness levels, and evacuation preferences. These inputs were used to calibrate agent behavior and movement patterns to reflect realistic community dynamics in the simulation. The model simulates multiple evacuation configurations to examine survival rates and evacuation times under different spatial layouts, building distributions, and shelter capacity assumptions. Results show that horizontal evacuation via a single inland route leads to severe congestion and low survival outcomes, with only 8.2% of agents reaching safety within ten minutes. In contrast, the addition of vertical evacuation buildings significantly enhances evacuation performance, yielding survival rates above 90% under all conditions. Even when shelter capacity is limited to 70% of its full design, over 93% of agents are still able to evacuate successfully, although with increased delays. Vertical-only evacuation produces stable performance with average completion times of approximately five minutes. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating vertical shelters in strategic locations, optimizing route accessibility, and adapting building capacity to physical and demographic constraints. This study contributes to tsunami risk mitigation planning by offering empirical insights into evacuation dynamics in isolated island environments such as Enggano Island, Indonesia.

Abstract

Coastal shoreline change is a dynamic process that significantly affects coastal ecosystems and human activities. This study quantitatively analyzed shoreline changes along the coast of Enggano Island, Bengkulu Province, during the period 1993–2025, focusing on Kahyapu, Kaana, and Malakoni Villages. Shoreline extraction was performed using Landsat imagery from 1993, 2009, and 2025 after radiometric and geometric corrections, employing the Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI) and tidal correction based on MIKE 21 modeling and bathymetric data. Shoreline change rates were calculated using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) with 2,052 transects at 10 m spacing and the parameters Net Shoreline Movement (NSM), End Point Rate (EPR), and Linear Regression Rate (LRR). The results indicate that shoreline retreat due to erosion dominates all study areas. During 1993–2009, average erosion rates ranged from −0.42 to −0.63 m/year and increased markedly during 2009–2025, reaching up to −1.26 m/year in Malakoni Village. Long-term trend analysis for 1993–2025 shows the highest erosion rate in Malakoni (−0.87 m/year), followed by Kaana (−0.56 m/year) and Kahyapu (−0.44 m/year). Accretion occurred only locally and at relatively low rates, insufficient to offset land loss. These findings confirm that the coastal areas of Enggano Island are highly vulnerable to continuous erosion and emphasize the need for integrated and sustainable coastal management strategies.

Abstract

Tourism villages have emerged as strategic instruments for inclusive rural development by integrating cultural preservation, natural resource management, and local economic empowerment. This study examines the development of Okura Tourism Village in Pekanbaru, Indonesia, through the integration of sociopreneurship and the pentahelix governance framework. Employing a qualitative design combining a systematic literature review and field-based inquiry, the research analyzes tourism potentials, community-based enterprises, and multi-actor collaboration dynamics. Findings indicate that Okura possesses strong natural and cultural assets, including river tourism, agro-tourism, cycling trails, and Malay cultural heritage. Community-driven enterprises—such as ginger candy (ting jahe), palm-rib handicrafts, instant ginger powder, and ketupat belacan—demonstrate sociopreneurial characteristics by integrating economic and social values. However, structural constraints persist, including limited digital literacy, lack of certification, weak branding, and managerial gaps. IFAS and EFAS analyses reveal moderate internal strength (2.70) and favorable external conditions (3.10), suggesting significant growth potential if institutional weaknesses are addressed. This study proposes a Sociopreneurship–Pentahelix Model to foster sustainable and inclusive tourism village development. The research contributes to the discourse on community-based tourism governance by offering an integrated and replicable framework for rural innovation.

Abstract

The Banda Sea has an important role in tuna fisheries in Indonesia. Basic knowledge of stomach contents analysis and reproductive biology aspects of yellowfin tuna is an effort to support the management of these fish resources, which is still rarely done. The research was conducted to obtain the above data and information, ie. analyzed stomach contents and reproductive biology aspects of yellowfin tuna, included sex ratio, length at first maturity, gonadal maturity level and spawning season in the Banda Sea waters. This study aims to analyze the stomach contents and obtain information about the reproductive biology of yellowfin tuna which includes sex ratio, size at first gonad maturity, gonad maturity level and spawning season in Banda Sea waters. The study was carried out at fish landing sites located in Ambon and Masohi (Seram Island) in January-October 2016. Observation of stomach contents and gonads were carried out visually. The results showed that the stomach contents of yellowfin tuna were dominated by squid. The sex ratio of females and males is in an unbalanced condition where there are fewer females than males with a ratio of 1:1.42. Yellowfin tuna caught by handline in the Banda Sea waters were dominated by fish which are indicated to have mature gonads. The spawning season for yellowfin tuna in the Banda Sea is estimated from May to June. The results of this study can be used as a basis for the management of yellowfin tuna fisheries in the Banda Sea waters by making regulations prohibiting the catching of yellowfin tuna in locations suspected of being spawning grounds for the fish during the spawning season and using larger hook sizes so that the fish caught are of a suitable size (adult size).

Abstract

This study is based on a policy innovation introduced by the Siak Regency Government related to village economic growth, particularly in Sungai Apit Sub-district. Through Law No. 6 of 2014, the government provides opportunities for each village to establish a business entity that can meet community needs—especially basic needs—while utilizing untapped local natural resources. These entities are expected to be managed as strategic assets that drive the local economy. Inclusive economic growth refers to efforts to ensure that the benefits of development are distributed across all segments of society, including rural communities. With the presence of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), creative industries, and agribusiness, local residents are no longer required to migrate to urban areas in search of employment. Empowerment programs—such as education, skills training, and community capacity building—can enhance their ability to actively participate in economic and social development. This study applies the Community Capitals Framework (CCF) developed by Emery and Flora (2006), which consists of seven dimensions. A qualitative method is employed to explore and identify patterns in how different forms of capital operate within the Sungai Apit Sub-district community in Siak Regency. The findings indicate that the condition of each type of capital shows an increasing trend in both quantity and quality. By effectively utilizing these various forms of capital—through educational programs, cultural initiatives, financial resources, and environmental conservation—Sungai Apit Sub-district is projected to improve its long-term well-being, resilience, and prosperity. Through collaboration, participation, and capacity building, communities can create a virtuous cycle in which different forms of capital reinforce one another, leading to sustainable and positive development outcomes.

Abstract

Rigid pavement is a commonly used pavement in soft subgrade conditions because it can anticipate soil subsidence in the transverse and longitudinal directions of the roadway as a result of uneven load distribution due to inhomogeneous soil. Road pavement that is passed by excessive loads will cause the road to experience soil subsidence which will also affect the soil layer below so that research on the problem is needed. This research uses the finite element method which aims to determine the vertical settlement of soil (Uy), the maximum settlement of 3650 days, and the safety factor (Msf) that occurs in soft soil layers against rigid pavement on Srijaya Raya road, Palembang City. The soil characteristics on Srijaya Raya Road are dominated by clay soil with low to medium plasticity which is dominantly soft so that it can cause significant road damage if maintenance is not carried out. Based on the research, it was found that the maximum subsidence value of the distributed load was at STA 0 + 806 at point BH-02 located at the Air Waru Bridge towards Indralaya, which was -0.04847 m with a safety factor of 1.650 and the maximum subsidence for 3650 days was at STA 2 + 103 at point BH-04 located at the Air Kenanga Bridge towards Palembang of -0.539 m.Keywords: finite element method; rigid pavement; safety factor; settlement.
