Abstract

ENGLISH: Building Spiritual Intelligence within the Framework of Islamic Educational Philosophy: Reflections on the Lifestyle of Urban CommunitiesObjective: This study examines the development of spiritual intelligence among young people through the integration of three pillars: family, school, and community, and analyzes how collaboration between these elements forms a holistic model for spiritual development among urban youth in Yogyakarta. Method: Using a descriptive qualitative approach through literature analysis, contextual observation, and conceptual review of spiritual education patterns in three main environments. Results: Effective spiritual guidance requires the internalization of religious values within the family, the strengthening of moral structures through school curricula and culture, and the expansion of spiritual experiences through socio-religious activities in the community. This integration improves adolescents' inner balance, reflective abilities, and psychological resilience in the face of urban pressures. Conclusion: This collaborative model not only produces individuals who are ritually devout but also spiritually mature and capable of making wise moral decisions. Contribution: This study provides a framework for spiritual guidance that can be applied by Islamic educational institutions, families, and local communities continuouslyINDONESIAN: Membangun Kecerdasan Spiritual dalam Bingkai Filsafat Pendidikan Islam: Refleksi atas Gaya Hidup mayarakat UrbanTujuan: Penelitian ini mengkaji pengembangan kecerdasan spiritual generasi muda melalui integrasi tiga pilar: keluarga, sekolah, dan masyarakat, serta menganalsisi bagaimana kolaborasi antarelemen tersebut membentuk model pembinaan spiritual yang holistik bagi remaja urban Yogyakarta.

Abstract

ENGLISH: Islamic Religious Education from an Ontological Perspective: A Philosophical Study Objectives: This study examines the ontological foundations of Islamic Religious Education (IRE), focusing on the nature of reality, human existence, knowledge, and educational aims within Islamic philosophical thought. Methods: A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted by synthesizing academic works published between 2015 and 2025 through systematic identification, screening, and thematic analysis. Results: The study reveals that IRE rests on a theocentric worldview that positions God as the ultimate reality; views humans as holistic beings with physical, intellectual, and spiritual dimensions; and regards knowledge as originating from divine revelation, supported by reason and experience. This ontological orientation strengthens curriculum development, clarifies the educator’s moral-spiritual role, and promotes the integration of religious and scientific knowledge. Conclusion: Ontological principles offer a comprehensive philosophical foundation for redefining educational aims, methods, and teacher roles, while restoring moral and spiritual direction in education. Contribution: This research provides a conceptual overview of IRE’s ontological structure, serving as a foundation for curriculum reform, teacher capacity building, and integrative educational models rooted in Islamic metaphysicsINDONESIAN: Pendidikan Agama Islam Dalam Perspektif Ontologi: Sebuah Kajian Filosofis.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve the critical thinking skills of first-semester students of the Biology Education Program at FITK UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model using the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) method. The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, specifically the one group pretest-posttest design, due to limited accessibility in conducting the research. The population consisted of 44 participants, including 9 male and 35 female students, selected using a convenience sampling technique. Data were collected through tests, and the analysis included normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that the average pretest score was 82.39 and the posttest score was 86.59, both categorized as high. The paired sample t-test revealed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.001 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. Furthermore, the Cohen’s d effect size value of 0.5028 falls into the medium category, indicating a moderate effect. In conclusion, the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model through the Focus Group Discussion method effectively improves students’ critical thinking skills, as indicated by improvements in understanding (3.2%), analytical skills (4.12%), evaluation skills (4.62%), and problem-solving skills (5.04%). Abstract

This study aims to analyze current issues in multicultural Islamic education and examine its implications and developmental direction in the global era. Multicultural Islamic education is understood as a paradigm that emphasizes the universal Islamic values of justice, tolerance, and brotherhood as the foundation for living together within diversity. This research employs a literature review method by examining scientific works published between 2015 and 2025 through a descriptive-analytical approach to identify foundational concepts, contemporary issues, implementation challenges, and both theoretical and practical implications. The findings show that multicultural Islamic education still faces problems such as intolerance, radicalism, curriculum homogenization, and weak teacher competence in inclusive pedagogy. These challenges are intensified by globalization and the digitalization of values, which influence the mindset of younger generations. Therefore, Islamic education needs to be developed in a humanistic, contextual, and adaptive manner through integrative curriculum reform, character strengthening based on universal Islamic values, and interdisciplinary collaboration to build more inclusive and civilized learning.

Abstract

General Background Moral decline among students raises critical concerns regarding the adequacy of current character education approaches. Specific Background Within Islamic pedagogy, moral formation is inseparable from theological foundations, where aqidah constitutes the core basis shaping ethical behavior. Knowledge Gap Existing studies predominantly emphasize pedagogical strategies while overlooking the epistemological and theological linkage between faith and moral development, and lack an integrated framework bridging classical Islamic thought with contemporary moral education discourse. Aims This study aims to synthesize classical and contemporary perspectives to construct an integrative conceptual model connecting aqidah and akhlak through an integrative literature review. Results The findings reveal that aqidah functions as a comprehensive meaning system shaping worldview, moral awareness, and value orientation, where akhlak emerges as an internalized manifestation rather than externally imposed norms. The study formulates an integrative model positioning aqidah as the foundation, moral awareness as the mediating process, and akhlak as observable behavioral expression. Novelty The study offers a systematic conceptual mechanism linking theological belief with moral behavior, addressing fragmentation in prior research. Implications The findings suggest that aqidah-based education requires contextual learning, teacher modeling, and sustained value practice to ensure authentic character formation. Highlights• Integrative model connects theological belief, moral awareness, and behavioral expression• Moral conduct emerges from internalized faith rather than external regulation• Conceptual synthesis bridges classical Islamic thought with contemporary moral discourse KeywordsAqidah Education; Moral Character; Akhlak; Islamic Education; Integrative Review
