Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of customs regulations and policies in encouraging the export activities of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially in the creative industry sector. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method on one of the creative industry MSMEs that has expanded to the international market. Data collection techniques are carried out through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, while data analysis uses an interactive model that includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions drawn. The results of the study show that government regulations and customs policies have a strategic role in increasing MSMEs' access to global markets, especially through simplifying export procedures, providing customs facilities, and digitizing export services. However, there are still a number of obstacles faced by MSMEs, such as low understanding of regulations, administrative complexity, and limited human resources in managing export documents. Therefore, synergy is needed between the government, business actors, and other stakeholders to increase regulatory literacy, strengthen export assistance, and optimize the implementation of policies that are more inclusive and adaptive to the needs of MSMEs. This research provides practical implications for the development of MSME internationalization strategies as well as theoretical contributions in the study of MSME-based public policy and international trade.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the level of compliance with government regulations on financial performance, with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and innovation as mediating variables in Consumer Non-Cyclicals sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. This research employs an explanatory quantitative approach using secondary data obtained from financial statements, sustainability reports, and PROPER data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry for the period 2021–2024. The sample consists of 35 companies with a total of 140 observations selected through purposive sampling. The variable of regulatory compliance is measured using PROPER scores, CSR is measured using a disclosure index based on GRI or POJK No. 51/POJK.03/2017, innovation is measured using the ratio of capital expenditure to total assets, and financial performance is measured using Return on Invested Capital (ROIC). Data analysis is conducted using SEM-PLS with the assistance of SmartPLS 4.0. The results indicate that the level of compliance with government regulations does not have a direct effect on financial performance, but has a positive effect on CSR and innovation. CSR does not affect financial performance and is unable to mediate the relationship between regulatory compliance and financial performance. In contrast, innovation has a positive effect on financial performance and is able to mediate the effect of regulatory compliance on financial performance. These findings suggest that regulatory compliance is more effective in improving financial performance when accompanied by innovation investments that enhance efficiency and competitiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically map and analyze the drivers, barriers, and global market opportunities in the internationalization process of Indonesian eco-print batik. This research employs a systematic literature review based on the PRISMA protocol, searching global databases from the last decade. From an initial pool of 650 articles, we ultimately selected 12 final articles for synthesis in analyzing the sustainability behavior of this creative industry. Analysis indicates that the primary drivers of internationalization are increasing global consumer awareness of green products, unique and authentic cultural motifs, and the emerging adoption of clean production technologies such as natural dyes and automated steam engines. However, the process faces significant hurdles, including low market awareness of local brands, strict compliance with international green industry standards, logistical inefficiencies, and limited digital marketing competencies among MSMEs. On the other hand, global market opportunities are expanding, particularly in Europe (such as Austria, Finland, and Norway) and the Middle East, through the use of global e-commerce platforms and effective digital branding strategies. This study concludes that the internationalization of Indonesian eco-print batik necessitates synergy between local wisdom-based product innovation and the adaptation of digital marketing strategies.

Abstract

Digital capabilities have now become a crucial prerequisite for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to survive and grow in the technology-driven global competition. This research aims to analyze the forms of digital capabilities possessed by AK Wear, a children's fashion MSME, and examine how these capabilities contribute to internationalization and export readiness. Additionally, this research identifies the challenges and opportunities in building digital capabilities toward the global market. The method used is a qualitative approach with a single case study design on AK Wear, where data was collected thru in-depth interviews and analyzed thematically. The research findings indicate that AK Wear has built a digital foundation thru intensive live selling practices, affiliate programs, and a presence on various platforms such as TikTok Shop, Shopee, and Instagram. However, there are significant obstacles such as low digital literacy among human resources, limitations in inventory management systems, and a strong dependence on platform algorithms. As a solution, this research proposes a phased strategic plan that includes internal strengthening in the short term, omnichannel integration in the medium term, and acceleration of exports and global brand strengthening in the long term. The results of this study provide practical implications for fashion SMEs in consolidating systems and digital competencies to achieve sustainable internationalization.

Abstract

The internationalization of SMEs is a key strategy to enhance competitiveness and access global markets. However, many Indonesian SMEs face challenges such as limited information, networks, export capacity, and understanding of international markets. This study analyzes SME internationalization strategies in Indonesia by examining the roles of global networks, diaspora, and business associations as key supporting factors. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation of SME actors, diaspora members, and business association representatives. Thematic analysis was conducted through data reduction, presentation, and inductive conclusions. Findings show that global networks facilitate market access, provide international business information, and strengthen cross-border collaboration opportunities. The diaspora serves as a bridge market to promote products, build trust, and expand distribution. Business associations enhance SME readiness through training, export support, and global buyer access. Synergy among networks, diaspora, and associations creates a more effective collaborative ecosystem than individual approaches. Challenges such as low digital literacy, complex regulations, and capacity constraints remain. The study contributes theoretically by integrating these roles into SME internationalization literature and offers practical implications for SMEs and policymakers to strengthen a collaborative, network-based internationalization ecosystem.
