Abstract

In primary education, textbooks serve as a cornerstone for the learning process, playing a pivotal role in achieving educational goals. A high-quality textbook not only aligns with the curriculum but also uses precise language, features appealing visuals, and inspires students to engage actively in learning. For this reason, it is essential to evaluate the suitability of textbooks before they are adopted in classroom instruction. The Indonesian language textbook “Bergerak Bersama” for fifth-grade students is among those implemented under the Merdeka Curriculum, making a feasibility review—particularly of Chapter I, “Aku yang Unik”—crucial to ensure its positive impact on both teaching and learning outcomes. This study examines the appropriateness of content quality, language use, presentation style, and graphic design within Chapter I of the aforementioned textbook. The central question addressed is the extent to which the book meets the standards across these four dimensions. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, utilizing document analysis as the primary method. Data were collected through direct assessment of Chapter I, following the BSNP textbook eligibility instrument, with each aspect evaluated based on established BSNP indicators. Findings reveal that, in terms of content, the material corresponds well with the latest curriculum objectives and remains relevant, especially in introducing adjectives, affixes, synonyms, antonyms, and compound sentences. Linguistically, the textbook adheres to the Indonesian spelling guidelines (PUEBI), and the language is clear and accessible to students. Regarding presentation, the textbook is considered engaging and motivating, further supported by comprehensive practice questions at the end of each chapter. Visually, choices in typography, formatting, and illustrations meet accepted standards and enhance student comprehension. The analysis indicates that Chapter I of “Bergerak Bersama” fulfills the BSNP’s criteria for use as a teaching resource in elementary schools. The four dimensions—content, language, presentation, and visual design—are all adequately addressed, supporting an effective and enjoyable learning experience. Consequently, this textbook stands as a relevant and reliable primary learning resource aligned with the curriculum and the needs of students

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to describe the design, feasibility, and effectiveness of an upright writing big book media developed to enhance the writing skills of second-grade students. The big book presents narrative texts integrating local wisdom, specifically highlighting the Pagerwunung Nature Reserve, to foster both literacy and cultural appreciation. Methodology: Employing the Research and Development (R&D) method with the Borg and Gall model, the study was conducted up to the eighth stage, focusing on feasibility and effectiveness testing due to time and cost constraints. The Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model was embedded into the media to strengthen collaborative reading and structured writing activities. Main Findings: The big book media design received a feasibility score of 90% from media experts and 93% from material experts, both categorized as “very feasible.” Effectiveness testing showed a significant improvement in students’ upright writing skills, supported by their increased engagement and comprehension of narrative structure. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research introduces a dual innovation: (1) integrating upright writing instruction with localized narrative content rooted in the Pagerwunung Nature Reserve, enabling students to visualize and contextualize learning through familiar cultural and environmental references; and (2) embedding the CIRC learning model into big book media, fostering cooperative literacy development while enhancing writing accuracy and fluency. By combining cultural literacy with technical writing skills, this approach not only supports academic achievement but also strengthens students’ sense of place and environmental stewardship, offering a replicable model for culturally responsive literacy instruction.

Abstract

Students have difficulty writing conjunctive narrative texts due to lack of understanding, limited teaching materials, and the unavailability of interesting learning media. Learning that only relies on textbooks also makes it difficult for students to express ideas, so that writing becomes unstructured, boring, and does not achieve learning completeness. This research aims to create the effectiveness of QR-Code Flashcard media supported by the synectic model. The method used is development research (Research and Development) with the ADDIE model. The experts who were the subject of the research were material experts and media experts. Small group trials of 9 students. The sampling technique used was purposive. The large group trial amounted to 26 people. Data collection methods using test and non-test techniques. The test technique was carried out by pre-test and post-test, while the non-test technique by conducting interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The technique used to analyze the data is descriptive analysis of qualitative, quantitative, and inferential statistics. The results showed that there was a significant difference in Indonesian learning outcomes in writing narrative texts with conjunctions before and after using Qr-code flashcard media. It is concluded that the use of QR-code flashcard media with a synectic model to improve the skill of writing conjoined narrative text in grade IV elementary school students.

Abstract

This study addresses the critical challenge of low reading comprehension among elementary school students by developing and evaluating a Basic Literacy-Based Flipbook. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) methodology based on the modified Borg and Gall model, the study aimed to design, validate, and test the effectiveness of a basic literacy-based flipbook integrating local Semarang culture. The research was conducted in two phases: a small-scale test with six students at Pakintelan 01 Public Elementary School and a large-scale test with 28 students at Bringin 1 Public Elementary School, Semarang. The flipbook was designed based on the results of the analysis of potential and identifying problems, and was validated by expert validators. The media expert rated the product with an initial feasibility score of 84.72%, which increased to 91.66% after revision, while the material expert gave it a 90% score, confirming the product's very feasible criteria. In the effectiveness test, the small-scale group's average pre-test score of 56 increased to 82 in the post-test, and the large-scale group's pre-test average of 57.6 rose to 83.5. N-gain scores of 62.3% for the small scale and 61% for the large scale indicate that the media is "quite effective". These findings suggest that the Basic Literacy-Based Flipbook is not only a highly feasible and effective tool for improving reading comprehension but also a promising medium for fostering broader literacy, critical thinking, and collaborative skills in elementary education.

Abstract

Educational transformation in the digital age requires adaptive learning approaches to develop students' basic literacy. This study aims to analyze the effect of Flipped Problem-Based Learning (FPBL) on basic literacy, explore the role of Self-Regulated Learning (SRL), and examine the interaction between the two in 21st-century learning. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) based on PRISMA guidelines was conducted using Harzing’s Publish or Perish application, searching the Google Scholar and Scopus databases. Initially, 607 articles were identified. After screening for relevance and applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 international articles were selected. These articles, published between 2020 and 2025 and indexed in Scopus, DOAJ, and SINTA, focused on FPBL, SRL, and basic literacy. The analysis reveals that FPBL positively impacts literacy, particularly in reading, numeracy, problem-solving, critical thinking, and digital literacy. SRL plays a central role in technology-based self-directed learning, where students with high self-regulation exhibit better literacy outcomes. The interaction between FPBL and SRL demonstrates a synergistic effect, further strengthening the development of basic literacy. In conclusion, this review emphasizes the significant contribution of FPBL to improving students’ basic literacy skills. It also highlights the vital role of SRL in optimizing self-directed learning and literacy outcomes. Combining FPBL with SRL strategies creates an adaptive, effective learning environment, essential for enhancing literacy in the digital age.
