Abstract

Difficult vocabulary comprehension remains a significant barrier in reading literacy instruction at the elementary level, thereby requiring an instructional model that can simultaneously enhance vocabulary comprehension and students’ collaborative attitudes. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model combined with the student worksheet Pohon Literasi (Literacy Tree) in improving difficult vocabulary comprehension and collaborative attitudes among fourth-grade students at SDN 4 Petarukan. The study employed a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 20 students, with data collected through a difficult vocabulary comprehension test and a collaboration observation sheet. The results indicated a significant improvement in reading ability, as reflected in the increase in mean scores from 61.2 at pretest to 85.2 at posttest, along with an increase in learning mastery from 50% to 85%. The N-Gain analysis yielded a score of 0.62, indicating a medium level of improvement, while all students demonstrated collaborative attitudes in the Good to Very Good categories, suggesting that the implementation of CIRC fostered constructive interaction and cooperation within groups. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the application of the CIRC model in conjunction with the Pohon Literasi media is effective in enhancing students’ comprehension of difficult vocabulary while simultaneously strengthening their collaborative attitudes, and thus can be recommended as a relevant and practical literacy instruction strategy in elementary schools.

Abstract

Personal letter writing skills and creative attitudes among primary school students remain suboptimal, as indicated by difficulties in generating ideas, organizing letter structure coherently, and selecting appropriate language, while predominantly teacher-centered instruction constrains exploration and creativity, resulting in monotonous writing products. This study aims (1) to describe the implementation of the combined Letter Kids student worksheet (Lembar Kerja Murid, LKM) based on Project-Based Learning (PJBL) in teaching personal letter writing, (2) to analyze its effectiveness in enhancing creative attitudes, and (3) to evaluate improvements in students’ writing skills. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving Grade VI D students of SDN Gisikdrono 02 Semarang. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and pretest–posttest writing tests. The PJBL syntax followed six stages, namely formulating driving questions, project planning, scheduling, monitoring, product development, and reflection. The combined print and electronic Letter Kids worksheets were used primarily during the planning, implementation, and product development stages of personal letter writing. The findings indicate an increase in students’ creative attitudes in terms of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration of ideas, as well as an improvement in writing scores from pretest to posttest, with an N-gain value of 0.62 (moderate category). The study concludes that the implementation of the combined Letter Kids LKM based on PJBL is effective in enhancing students’ creativity and personal letter writing skills, implying that this medium can be utilized as an innovative learning alternative that supports digital literacy and promotes learner autonomy.

Abstract

Although early writing instruction has been widely recognized as a crucial component of primary education, studies that specifically examine the integration of the Synectics model with Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) Main Huruf to enhance beginning writing skills and students’ critical reasoning remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing the Synectics model combined with the Main Huruf worksheet in improving first-grade students’ beginning writing skills and critical thinking dispositions. A mixed-methods approach with a convergent parallel design was employed, involving 18 first-grade students at SD Negeri Gisikdrono 02 selected through total sampling. Data were collected through classroom observations and pretest–posttest assessments and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative thematic analysis. The findings showed a significant improvement in beginning writing skills, indicated by an increase in the mean score from 66.5 to 79 and an N-Gain value of 0.37 (medium category). Indicators of critical thinking, including analysis, explanation, and drawing conclusions, also improved, with 67–72% of students demonstrating stronger reasoning abilities. These results contribute to the reinforcement of constructivist learning theory by demonstrating that analogy-based and manipulative activities can deepen students’ cognitive engagement. The study concludes that the Synectics model assisted by the LKPD Main Huruf is effective in developing early-grade students’ linguistic and cognitive abilities and recommends that teachers integrate analogy-based and interactive activities into literacy instruction. Further research is advised to develop digital media and employ longitudinal designs to examine the sustainability of literacy development.

Abstract

Although the importance of narrative text comprehension in primary education has been highlighted in numerous previous studies, research that specifically examines the integration of interactive digital media with collaborative learning models remains limited. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the Flipbook Petualangan Naratif assisted by the Think Pair Share (TPS) model based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) in improving narrative text comprehension among fifth-grade elementary school students. A mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design grounded in the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) was employed, involving 22 fifth-grade students of SDN Mangkang Wetan 03 Semarang (21 active students) selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a reading comprehension test, observation sheets, student response questionnaires, and semi-structured reflective interviews, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, N-Gain analysis, and thematic analysis. The results showed that expert validation placed the product in the “highly feasible” category, with material validity of 86.7% and media validity of 88.6%; quantitatively, there was a significant increase in the mean score from 65.0 (pretest) to 87.5 (posttest) with an N-Gain value of 0.64 (medium–high category), while qualitatively students demonstrated increased active engagement, collaboration skills, and ability to interpret narrative structure and moral messages. These findings contribute to strengthening constructivist learning theory in the context of digital literacy and broaden understanding of effective pedagogy in primary schooling. The study concludes that the Flipbook Petualangan Naratif is an interactive, collaborative, and deep-learning–oriented instructional medium for teaching Indonesian language, and recommends that elementary schools adopt interactive digital media integrated with collaborative models to enhance narrative text comprehension. The implications include theoretical contributions to the literature on digital instructional media in primary education and practical implications for curriculum developers, teachers, and educational technology designers, while also opening avenues for further exploration of flipbook integration with other text genres and the inclusion of gamification elements.

Abstract

Although the use of digital media in teaching and learning has received considerable attention in previous studies, research that specifically examines the development of teaching materials based on Heyzine Flipbook to improve beginning writing skills and digital literacy among first-grade elementary school students remains limited. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of digital flipbook-based teaching materials as an interactive instructional medium for lower-grade students. A research and development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model was employed, involving 17 first-grade students at SD Negeri Boyolali selected through purposive sampling based on learning needs. Data were collected using questionnaires, interviews, and observations, and were analyzed through thematic analysis and descriptive percentage techniques. The results show that the developed digital teaching materials obtained validity scores of 92–95% from material and media experts, which fall into the “very good” category, while student responses reached 99.46%, indicating that the medium is highly effective in increasing learning interest, material comprehension, and student engagement during beginning writing instruction. These findings contribute to the development of theory related to interactive digital learning media and broaden understanding of flipbook implementation in basic literacy instruction. The study concludes that visual–interactive, technology-based teaching materials are crucial in lower-grade learning and recommends that educators integrate flipbooks as supportive media for early literacy instruction, while also opening avenues for further research on the development of advanced features, expansion of sample coverage, and long-term evaluation of media effectiveness.

Abstract

Listening skills are a fundamental competence in Bahasa Indonesia instruction, yet in practice listening activities often take place in a passive manner and are insufficiently supported by appropriate instructional media, causing many students to struggle to maintain attention and follow the storyline of aural texts. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model combined with a Board Book Audio Aural and to analyze its influence on story comprehension and cooperation among 22 fifth-grade students at SDN Boyolali. A descriptive qualitative approach with a field study design was employed, using participatory observation, field notes, documentation, quizzes, and event-sequencing tasks as data collection techniques. The findings indicate that all stages of TGT were implemented effectively and that the use of the Board Book Audio Aural in the tournament phase helped most students to listen more attentively. Groups with strong internal coordination obtained higher quiz scores and were able to reconstruct the story sequence more accurately and quickly, although several challenges—such as unstable classroom conditions and variation in students’ ability to maintain focus—still affected the learning process. Overall, the integration of TGT and Board Book Audio Aural was found to enhance students’ listening skills and collaborative interaction, thereby underscoring the importance of multimodal media and structured cooperative strategies in listening instruction at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Listening skills for aural texts among elementary school students remain relatively low, as reflected in their suboptimal ability to identify essential information, grasp the main message, and provide logical responses to spoken texts. Although listening instruction has been widely studied, research that specifically integrates concrete audiolingual media with the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model remains limited. This study aimed to describe the implementation of Kartu Memory Listening media within a PBL framework in listening instruction and to examine its effectiveness in improving students’ listening skills and critical reasoning. A mixed-methods approach with an embedded concurrent design was employed, involving 28 third-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Listening skills data were collected using pretest–posttest assessments with teacher-read announcement stimuli supported by teacher cards, while students used learner cards containing characteristics and keywords of various types of announcements along with visuals of four common public locations (stations, ports, airports, and bus terminals). Critical reasoning was assessed through observations conducted by two observers using a standardized instrument. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles–Huberman technique. The results show a significant improvement in listening skills, with a mean posttest score of 91.6 (very good category), and in critical reasoning, with a score of 87.5 (good category). These findings enrich theoretical discussions on the use of concrete audiolingual media within a PBL framework and provide practical implications for Bahasa Indonesia instruction in elementary schools, while also opening avenues for further research on additional factors that may influence learning outcomes but were not examined in this study.

Abstract

Although cooperative learning models and digital media have been widely examined in the context of literacy instruction, studies that specifically integrate a flipbook based on the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model to enhance personal letter writing skills and communication attitudes among elementary school students remain limited. This study aimed to describe the implementation of a CIRC-based flipbook, assess its effectiveness in improving personal letter writing skills, and analyze students’ communication attitudes during instruction. Employing a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design, the research involved 27 fifth-grade students selected through total sampling. Data were obtained through writing tests, observations, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. The results show that 81% of students surpassed the KKTP benchmark, indicating that the CIRC-based flipbook is effective in improving personal letter writing skills. Qualitative data confirm that students displayed positive communication attitudes, particularly in terms of respect, responsibility, fairness, and caring. These findings reinforce cooperative learning theory and the use of interactive digital media in language instruction, and they underscore that collaborative digital media can support the enhancement of writing skills and the development of students’ communication attitudes. Follow-up studies are recommended to adapt similar models to other language skills and broader instructional contexts.

Abstract

The low levels of critical reasoning attitudes and listening comprehension of narrative texts among sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 7 Boja, as evidenced by their Learning Objective Mastery Criterion (KKTP) scores falling below the target of 70, hinder both content understanding and the development of higher-order thinking skills. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness and impact of implementing a flipbook-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model on improving students’ critical reasoning attitudes and narrative listening skills. A mixed-methods approach with an embedded design was employed, involving 30 sixth-grade students as participants. Quantitative data were collected through listening comprehension tests and critical reasoning attitude questionnaires, while qualitative data were obtained through observations and interviews; these were then analyzed using descriptive statistics combined with thematic analysis. Quantitative findings indicated a significant increase in both variables, as reflected in the rise of the mean narrative listening score from 61.5 before the intervention to 82.3 afterward, as well as an improvement in critical reasoning attitude scores, with 86.7% of students achieving the “Good” to “Very Good” categories and surpassing the KKTP benchmark of 70. Qualitative analysis reinforced these results by showing that the PjBL-based flipbook fostered more interactive and authentic learning and encouraged students to actively construct projects that required critical analysis. It is concluded that the implementation of a PjBL-based flipbook is highly effective in enhancing critical reasoning attitudes and narrative listening skills among sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 7 Boja. The findings underscore the importance of utilizing PjBL models supported by interactive digital media as a key alternative for improving the quality of Bahasa Indonesia instruction and for developing twenty-first-century skills related to literacy and critical thinking.
