Abstract

in Indonesian language books for fifth grade elementary school students based on the book eligibility standards set by the National Education Standards Agency (BSNP). This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a document analysis method on components such as the title page, foreword, table of contents, glossary, index, bibliography, and author profile. The results of the study indicate that in general the book has met the eligibility standards in terms of presentation structure, language, and graphics. However, several weaknesses were still found, such as inconsistencies in spelling, inconsistencies in page numbers in the table of contents, the use of sentences that are too complex for the level of understanding of elementary school students, and the lack of supporting visualizations in the post-content section. In addition, the author profile and bibliography do not show relevant and up-to-date sources. These findings emphasize the importance of attention to the pre-content and post-content sections so that textbooks not only meet the core material aspects but also support the effectiveness of learning in line with the principles of the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

Although listening skills and critical thinking dispositions are foundational to the development of twenty-first-century literacy in primary education, studies that specifically integrate Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with interactive digital media to simultaneously enhance both competencies in lower-grade students remain limited. This study aims to examine the implementation of the PBL model supported by the Information Detective Flipbook (Flipbook Detektif Informasi) and to evaluate its effectiveness in improving critical attitudes and listening skills in Grade III elementary school students. The study employs a mixed-methods approach with an embedded concurrent design, involving 20 Grade III students at SDN Wonoplembon 02 Semarang selected through saturated sampling. Data were collected using structured observation sheets, semi-structured interview guides, field notes, documentation, and pretest–posttest instruments, and analyzed through thematic analysis and the N-Gain statistical test. The results show that the implementation of PBL was effective, with almost all students displaying high curiosity and the ability to evaluate information logically. The average listening score increased from 65.4 to 85.2, with an N-Gain of 0.57 (medium category), and the percentage of mastery rose from 40% to 100%. These findings strengthen the development of constructivist learning theory by demonstrating that PBL can integrate the development of multiple skills in lower-grade students. The study underscores the importance of combining structured instructional models, authentic content in the form of public announcements, and interactive flipbook media to foster active learning and critical inquiry, and it offers practical implications for teachers, curriculum developers, and researchers seeking to integrate digital media with problem-based approaches, including long-term exploration and the examination of moderating factors such as learning styles and student motivation.

Abstract

Although the Talking Stick instructional model has been widely studied, research that specifically integrates the Lingkubaca Student Worksheet (Lembar Kerja Murid [LKM] “Lingkubaca”) with concrete media based on contextual images to enhance beginning reading skills and communication attitudes in Grade I students remains very limited. This study aims to describe the implementation of Talking Stick supported by the Lingkubaca Student Worksheet and to test its effectiveness in improving students’ ability to read simple words and sentences as well as their communication attitudes. The study employs a mixed-methods approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design, involving 10 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and worksheet-based tests, and analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. The findings show a significant improvement in beginning reading skills, with the average score increasing from 58.50 to 81.70, accompanied by positive developments in communication attitudes. These results reinforce cognitive development theory that emphasizes the importance of concrete media and social interaction in learning among students at the concrete operational stage and extend understanding of the effectiveness of game-based learning in early literacy development. The study concludes that the collaboration of reading activities, educational games, and oral communication is a key strategy for building basic literacy in early-grade students and provides theoretical implications for early literacy studies as well as practical guidance for teachers seeking to optimize the use of concrete media and thematic worksheets in enhancing the literacy of Phase A (fase A) students.

Abstract

Although listening skills and critical attitudes have received attention in several studies, research that specifically addresses the integration of e-comic media, the reading a lot strategy, and the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in Indonesian language instruction at the primary school level remains limited. This study aims (1) to describe the implementation of PBL-based e-comics supported by the reading a lot strategy as an effort to enhance the critical attitudes and aural text listening skills of fifth-grade students, and (2) to evaluate the effectiveness of these e-comics in improving both aspects. This study employed a mixed-methods approach with an explanatory sequential design, involving 14 fifth-grade students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using an Aural Comprehension Test (Tes Komprehensi Aural, TKA) in the form of multiple-choice and completion items, critical attitude observation sheets assessed by two observers, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative thematic analysis. The results indicate that the implementation of the PBL model supported by e-comics is effective in improving listening skills, as evidenced by an increase in classical mastery from 35.71% in the pretest to 92.86% in the posttest. Students’ critical attitudes also developed positively, as reflected in their ability to pose critical questions, express opinions logically, and relate the moral values of the stories to everyday life, with the majority of students falling into the good and very good categories. This study concludes that PBL-based e-comics supported by the reading a lot strategy play an important role in strengthening critical attitudes and aural text listening skills, and implies that teachers and schools can adopt them as an alternative model and medium for Indonesian language learning in primary schools to enhance student engagement and comprehension.

Abstract

Although formative assessment and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) have received attention in previous studies, research that specifically examines the integration of formative assessment based on the interactive digital platform Wayground with PBL to enhance critical reasoning and sentence-writing skills in primary schools remains limited. This study aims to describe the implementation of Wayground formative assessment grounded in PBL in learning activities that involve arranging sentences from jumbled words and to analyze its effectiveness in improving critical reasoning and sentence-writing skills among third-grade primary school students. A mixed-methods approach with an embedded concurrent design was employed, involving 21 third-grade students of SD Negeri 1 Parikesit selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using test instruments (pretest–posttest), observation, and questionnaires, and were analyzed using normalized gain (N-gain) techniques for quantitative data and data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing for qualitative data. The results qualitatively indicate that most students demonstrate critical reasoning in the “good” category, as reflected in their ability to identify sentence structure errors, provide logical justifications, and independently correct mistakes. Quantitatively, there was a significant increase in the mean score from 62.0 to 81.5 with an N-gain of 0.51 (moderate category), an increase in the percentage of learning mastery from 65% to 90%, and 100% of students falling into the moderate N-gain category with no students in the low category. These findings contribute to the development of meaningful learning theory and constructivism, and broaden the understanding of digital technology integration in PBL-based formative assessment in primary schools. The study concludes that integrating digital formative assessment with problem-based learning models is essential for creating authentic, reflective, and inclusive learning experiences, and recommends that teachers and education practitioners adopt interactive digital platforms such as Wayground as formative assessment instruments that provide real-time feedback and adaptive scaffolding. The implications of this research include theoretical contributions in enriching the literature on digital formative assessment and PBL in primary schools, methodological contributions through the validation of Wayground as an alternative assessment instrument, and practical implications for teachers, schools, and policymakers in implementing innovative technology-based learning models, while opening further opportunities for exploration in other subjects, longitudinal studies, and comparative research across digital formative assessment platforms.

Abstract

Difficult vocabulary comprehension remains a significant barrier in reading literacy instruction at the elementary level, thereby requiring an instructional model that can simultaneously enhance vocabulary comprehension and students’ collaborative attitudes. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model combined with the student worksheet Pohon Literasi (Literacy Tree) in improving difficult vocabulary comprehension and collaborative attitudes among fourth-grade students at SDN 4 Petarukan. The study employed a one-group pretest–posttest design involving 20 students, with data collected through a difficult vocabulary comprehension test and a collaboration observation sheet. The results indicated a significant improvement in reading ability, as reflected in the increase in mean scores from 61.2 at pretest to 85.2 at posttest, along with an increase in learning mastery from 50% to 85%. The N-Gain analysis yielded a score of 0.62, indicating a medium level of improvement, while all students demonstrated collaborative attitudes in the Good to Very Good categories, suggesting that the implementation of CIRC fostered constructive interaction and cooperation within groups. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the application of the CIRC model in conjunction with the Pohon Literasi media is effective in enhancing students’ comprehension of difficult vocabulary while simultaneously strengthening their collaborative attitudes, and thus can be recommended as a relevant and practical literacy instruction strategy in elementary schools.

Abstract

Personal letter writing skills and creative attitudes among primary school students remain suboptimal, as indicated by difficulties in generating ideas, organizing letter structure coherently, and selecting appropriate language, while predominantly teacher-centered instruction constrains exploration and creativity, resulting in monotonous writing products. This study aims (1) to describe the implementation of the combined Letter Kids student worksheet (Lembar Kerja Murid, LKM) based on Project-Based Learning (PJBL) in teaching personal letter writing, (2) to analyze its effectiveness in enhancing creative attitudes, and (3) to evaluate improvements in students’ writing skills. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving Grade VI D students of SDN Gisikdrono 02 Semarang. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and pretest–posttest writing tests. The PJBL syntax followed six stages, namely formulating driving questions, project planning, scheduling, monitoring, product development, and reflection. The combined print and electronic Letter Kids worksheets were used primarily during the planning, implementation, and product development stages of personal letter writing. The findings indicate an increase in students’ creative attitudes in terms of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration of ideas, as well as an improvement in writing scores from pretest to posttest, with an N-gain value of 0.62 (moderate category). The study concludes that the implementation of the combined Letter Kids LKM based on PJBL is effective in enhancing students’ creativity and personal letter writing skills, implying that this medium can be utilized as an innovative learning alternative that supports digital literacy and promotes learner autonomy.

Abstract

Although early writing instruction has been widely recognized as a crucial component of primary education, studies that specifically examine the integration of the Synectics model with Lembar Kerja Peserta Didik (LKPD) Main Huruf to enhance beginning writing skills and students’ critical reasoning remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing the Synectics model combined with the Main Huruf worksheet in improving first-grade students’ beginning writing skills and critical thinking dispositions. A mixed-methods approach with a convergent parallel design was employed, involving 18 first-grade students at SD Negeri Gisikdrono 02 selected through total sampling. Data were collected through classroom observations and pretest–posttest assessments and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and qualitative thematic analysis. The findings showed a significant improvement in beginning writing skills, indicated by an increase in the mean score from 66.5 to 79 and an N-Gain value of 0.37 (medium category). Indicators of critical thinking, including analysis, explanation, and drawing conclusions, also improved, with 67–72% of students demonstrating stronger reasoning abilities. These results contribute to the reinforcement of constructivist learning theory by demonstrating that analogy-based and manipulative activities can deepen students’ cognitive engagement. The study concludes that the Synectics model assisted by the LKPD Main Huruf is effective in developing early-grade students’ linguistic and cognitive abilities and recommends that teachers integrate analogy-based and interactive activities into literacy instruction. Further research is advised to develop digital media and employ longitudinal designs to examine the sustainability of literacy development.

Abstract

Although the importance of narrative text comprehension in primary education has been highlighted in numerous previous studies, research that specifically examines the integration of interactive digital media with collaborative learning models remains limited. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the Flipbook Petualangan Naratif assisted by the Think Pair Share (TPS) model based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) in improving narrative text comprehension among fifth-grade elementary school students. A mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design grounded in the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) was employed, involving 22 fifth-grade students of SDN Mangkang Wetan 03 Semarang (21 active students) selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a reading comprehension test, observation sheets, student response questionnaires, and semi-structured reflective interviews, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, N-Gain analysis, and thematic analysis. The results showed that expert validation placed the product in the “highly feasible” category, with material validity of 86.7% and media validity of 88.6%; quantitatively, there was a significant increase in the mean score from 65.0 (pretest) to 87.5 (posttest) with an N-Gain value of 0.64 (medium–high category), while qualitatively students demonstrated increased active engagement, collaboration skills, and ability to interpret narrative structure and moral messages. These findings contribute to strengthening constructivist learning theory in the context of digital literacy and broaden understanding of effective pedagogy in primary schooling. The study concludes that the Flipbook Petualangan Naratif is an interactive, collaborative, and deep-learning–oriented instructional medium for teaching Indonesian language, and recommends that elementary schools adopt interactive digital media integrated with collaborative models to enhance narrative text comprehension. The implications include theoretical contributions to the literature on digital instructional media in primary education and practical implications for curriculum developers, teachers, and educational technology designers, while also opening avenues for further exploration of flipbook integration with other text genres and the inclusion of gamification elements.
