Abstract

Bilirubin is a sequence product of red blood cells in the reticule-endothelial system. At excessive concentrations, about 5 mg/dL bilirubin will appear clinically as a yellow color on the skin and mucous membranes which is called jaundice. Jaundice can be physiological and pathological or commonly known as hyperbilirubinemia. Hyperbilirubinemia is a pathological condition that arises at the first day of birth and increasing of bilirubin levels 5 mg/dL per day rapidly, ABO incompatibility is the most common risk factor causes hyperbilirubinemia in newborns. ABO incompatibilities included in the main blood group antigen are blood group A and B which are the most common cases in newborns. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between incidences of hyperbilirubinemia with ABO incompatibility in newborns at Abdul Moeloek Hospital, Lampung. This is observational analytic study using cross sectional method. Total sampling method was done. Medical record was data source of this study. Data analysis was performed by chi-square test with p <0.05. Abstract

Antibiotic resistance is a global health problem in the world. Antibiotic resistance is defined as the absence of inhibition of bacterial growth by systemic administration of antibiotics with normal doses or minimal inhibitory levels. The World Health Organization (WHO) seeks to control antibiotic resistance globally by making global action plans to combat bacterial resistance to antibiotics, namely increasing the wise use of antibiotics and evaluating the use of antibiotics. The qualitative evaluation that can be used is the Gyssens method. The Gyssens method was chosen because this method has more specific aspects to evaluate each of the important parameters included in the use of antibiotics such as indication, effectiveness, safety, price and spectrum, and can also evaluate treatment duration, dose, interval, and route of administration as well as time of giving. Therefore, this method is the main choice for evaluation of antibiotics in Indonesia.

Abstract

Medicinal plants are plants that have medicinal properties or uses and are used to cure and prevent various diseases. Medicinal plants, both leaves, stems and roots, are partly used by the community for traditional or alternative medicine. The use of medicinal plants has evolved from generation to generation, with knowledge being passed down from generation to generation. In its utilization, medicinal plants have good opportunities, such as they are often sold as food supplements, use by the public is increasingly popular and promises minimal side effects and has challenges that must be faced, namely the need for scientific evaluation, a long time with large capital, there is a distance between preclinical models and its applications used in clinical trials as well as the lack of clinical trial data. Many drugs developed from natural sources have had revolutionary impact in medicine, including antibiotics, antiparasitic, antimalarial, lipid control agents, immunosuppressants for organ transplantation, and anticancer drugs. Medicinal plants that have properties or uses as medicinal ingredients which are currently being researched include miswak plants, centella asiatica plants, and mangrove plants.

Abstract

Pathogenic diseases are diseases that are an important problem for public health, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. This disease occurs when disease-causing microorganisms infect the host's body tissue and then multiply and react to the organism being attacked because of the toxins they produce. Several types of disease pathogens can be caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. Detection of pathogenic bacteria as a source of infection still relies on isolation methods in pure media culture and microscopic analysis followed by biochemical reactions. However, when using existing techniques, it is difficult to isolate some bacteria in pure culture media, making it a challenge to develop other methods to identify the source of the infection. So far, identification and detection of pathogenic bacteria has only been carried out by observation based on clinical symptoms and history of disease, as well as morphological and physiological characteristics. However, this method is less efficient so a technique is needed that can detect pathogenic bacteria quickly and accurately. There are several types of methods that can be used to identify pathogenic bacteria, namely, methods that target nucleic acids, immunology-based methods, and biosensor-based methods.

This research utilizes a method of sear Trichiasis is a pathological disorder characterized by the abnormal growth of eyelashes towards the eyeball, resulting in irritation, pain, and potential harm to the eye. The pathophysiology of trichiasis originates with alterations in the structure of the eyelashes and eyelids. Trichiasis is classified into six categories according to the source and location of abnormal eyelash development. The clinical presentation of trichiasis differs according on the extent of the condition. Trichiasis can be diagnosed by assessing the patient's medical history and doing a thorough physical examination. The history encompasses the patient's medical background, record of medication usage, past eye surgical procedures, and the patient's reported symptoms. The physical examination encompasses assessments of visual acuity, biomicroscopic inspection, evaluation of eyelid margins, and the administration of the Schirmer test. The treatment for trichiasis is determined by the extent of eyelash involvement, which includes factors such as the Soft Contact Lense Base Curve. Treatment options may include eyelash removal and surgical procedures, depending on the specific form of trichiasis that the patient is suffering. ching for articles on Google Scholar, PubMed, and NCBI. Abstract

Lung disease is one of the leading causes of illness and death worldwide. Lung disease can be caused by inflammation of the tissues due to oxidative stress. Oxidative stress plays a role in the pathogenesis of lung disease, both acute and chronic. Oxidative stress in the lungs occurs when antioxidant capacity is depleted due to external exposures, such as changes in oxygen pressure due to pollutants, and internal exposures, such as systemic disease and activation of inflammatory cells in response to exposure. Oxidative stress is an imbalance in the production of oxidants and antioxidants in the body's metabolism. In lung disease, oxidative stress increases in endogenous metabolism so exogenous antioxidants in the form of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) are needed. NAC is a glutathione precursor that can replenish total thiols (cysteine, cysteinylglycine, glutathione, and homocysteine). The mechanism of action of NAC is by interacting with ROS so that it can increase antioxidant capacity again. Oxidative stress can deplete antioxidants, NAC will release Thiol groups directly thereby neutralizing oxidants such as N and NO2. Clinically, NAC has been proven to be useful as a treatment for lung diseases such as COVID-19, asthma, bronchiectasis, COPD, and TB at high doses, namely 1200 mg/day.
