Abstract

Command style is a training method that involves direct instruction from the coach to the player with a focus on specific technique control and correction. Meanwhile, shooting in soccer refers to the player's ability to shoot towards the goal with the aim of scoring a goal. This study aims to analyze the effect of command style on shooting ability in soccer games in students at SMPN 2 Medan. This study used an experimental method with a pretest-posttest group design. The sample used was grade VIII students consisting of two groups, namely the experimental group who were given treatment in the form of training using the command style, and the control group who did not receive the treatment. Data were collected through shooting skills tests before and after treatment. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a significant increase in shooting ability in the experimental group using the command style compared to the control group. These findings indicate that the application of the command style in soccer training can improve students' shooting skills. This study makes an important contribution to developing more effective training methods to improve soccer technique skills, especially in the shooting aspect, in junior high school students.

Abstract

The prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls in Southeast Asia is categorized as a serious situation with a figure of more than 40 percent. Adolescents, especially girls, are a group that is very vulnerable to anemia, caused by menstruation which causes significant iron loss. Adolescent girls who are healthy and free from anemia will grow into healthy mothers and give birth to healthy children, so this initiative supports the first 1000 days of life program. Adolescent girls are ten times more likely to suffer from anemia than adolescent boys, because they menstruate every month and are in a growth phase that requires more iron intake. Education on handling anemia among adolescent girls aims to provide understanding and knowledge about anemia and the consequences faced. The target of this activity is adolescent girls at SMA Negeri 5 Padang City. Education is carried out through direct counseling and class discussions. It is hoped that participants can better understand and realize the importance of preventing anemia among adolescent girls.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the barriers to reading academic texts among university students for whom English is a foreign language. While many previous studies have focused on instructional design for building academic reading skills, this study focuses on the fundamental issues that need consideration before setting up the instructional design for English academic reading. Taking an interpretive phenomenological viewpoint, this study applied a qualitative method through an online survey and interviews. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, online data collection was the most accessible means of approaching the students. Ninety-five students from various non-English study programs (courses) at a private university voluntarily responded to the open-ended online questionnaire, providing survey data. Five students provided further data through individual interviews on their academic reading challenges. A thematic analysis of the survey data revealed four themes and eight subthemes representing the students challenges, which were explored further in the interviews. These challenges and the relationships among them are discussed. The results suggest that most students depended on single-word meanings as their prime strategy for achieving comprehension. However, this strategy also represented the most notable challenge in their effective reading of English academic texts. They failed to comprehend the text effectively because their translation did not make sense. Furthermore, the nature of the reading strategies of the student cohort had an impact on their baseline reading proficiency.

Abstract

This study aims to estimate item parameters in Item Response Theory (IRT) using the Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method in the context of Islamic schools in Pekalongan Regency/City, where small sample sizes pose a challenge. Unlike conventional methods such as maximum likelihood estimation, which tend to yield biased results with limited data, Bayesian MCMC incorporates prior knowledge and contextual information to improve estimation accuracy. Simulated datasets with varying sample sizes (30, 100, 300, 1000) and item numbers (10, 25, 30, 40) were used to compare the performance of Bayesian MCMC with traditional IRT methods. The results show that Bayesian MCMC produces more stable and accurate estimates, particularly in small-sample conditions. These findings suggest that Bayesian approaches are effective for psychometric analysis in Islamic education settings. The study concludes that Bayesian MCMC is a valuable method for improving the robustness of item parameter estimation in limited-data contexts.
