Abstract

The Role of Agricultural Extension Workers in the Adoption of Organic Fertilizer Innovation in the Tirto Mulyo Farmer Group, Bumiharjo Village, Glenmore Sub-District, Banyuwangi Regency. This study examines the role of agricultural extension workers in supporting the adoption of organic farming. This research is motivated by the need to understand the effectiveness of agricultural extension agents in promoting the adoption of organic fertilizer innovations amid shortages of inorganic fertilizers and declining soil fertility. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyze the roles of extension agents at each stage of the innovation adoption process within the Tirto Mulyo Farmer Group in Bumiharjo Village, Glenmore Sub-district, Banyuwangi. A qualitative approach was employed, with informants selected purposively. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings show that the roles of extension agents vary across the stages of innovation adoption. In the knowledge stage, agents acted as facilitators, motivators, dynamicators, and educators, but did not yet function as consultants. The persuasion stage revealed only the facilitator role, while in the decision stage, the agents acted as both motivators and consultants. During the implementation stage, they fulfilled the roles of facilitator, motivator, educator, and consultant, although the dynamicator role remained absent. In the confirmation stage, the facilitator, motivator, and consultant roles were evident, while the dynamicator and educator roles did not appear. This study concludes that the roles of extension agents have not been fully optimized across all stages of adoption. It is recommended that extension agents strengthen their consultant and dynamicator functions—particularly in the early and final stages of adoption—and continually enhance the quality of facilitation and technical assistance.

Abstract

Floriculture is a horticultural sub-sector with high economic value and significant potential to increase farmers’ income. Rose cultivation is one of the main sources of livelihood for the community in Karangpring Village, Sukorambi District, Jember Regency. This farming activity has been carried out for generations and serves as a key support for farmers’ household economy. This study aims to measure the level of farmers’ motivation and to analyze the factors associated with farmers’ motivation in rose farming. The research was conducted in Karangpring Village, Sukorambi District, using a quantitative descriptive method. The population consisted of 129 farmers, with a sample of 34 respondents selected randomly using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation. The results show that the level of farmers’ motivation in rose farming is in the moderate category. Farmers stated that the cultivation process of roses is relatively easy; however, the income obtained is not yet stable due to price fluctuations, as well as limited support and assistance from agricultural extension workers. Factors significantly associated with farmers’ motivation include age, farming experience, and the frequency of participation in extension activities. Meanwhile, formal education and land size are not significantly associated with farmers’ motivation.

Abstract

The Role of Farmer Group Leader in the Application of Organic Fertilizer for Cayenne Pepper Cultivation. The application of organic fertilizer is strongly influenced by the direction and support of a leader, especially the head of a farmer group. This study aims to analyze the role of the farmer group leader in the application of organic fertilizer and identify obstacles faced by members. A descriptive qualitative research method was employed, utilizing observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Informants were determined purposively, consisting of 1 group leader, 13 members, and 1 Agricultural Extension Officer (PPL). Data analysis followed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, which includes data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was tested through source triangulation. The results show the group leader plays several roles. The liaison role involves bridging information between members, PPLs, farmers, and consumers. The leader’s role is evident in efforts to maintain group cohesion and manage the legality of organic fertilizer products. The monitoring role is carried out through overseeing and gathering information related to organic fertilizer. The dissemination role is carried out by providing information to members, while the spokesperson role is demonstrated by conveying the group’s needs to external parties. Additionally, the leader plays an entrepreneurial role by introducing innovations to members and is involved in problem-solving, resource allocation, and negotiation with PPLs, consumers, and local government. The obstacles faced by members include natural factors such as rain that hinders drying of raw materials, lack of drying equipment, limited member understanding, and limited availability of raw materials.

Abstract

Pomfret (Tracinotus blochii) is a new commodity currently the mainstay of Indonesian marine aquaculture. Pomfret's exports totaled 2,150 thousand tons in 2018. From 2017 to 2018, this number increased by 100 percent from the export volume produced in Indonesia, which was 1,075 thousand tons. Of course, there are problems that are frequently encountered in the development of cultivation, such as the attack of ectoparasite worms. In this study, the silver pompano was found to be infested with the Pyragraphorus hollisae worm. The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence and intensity of the ectoparasite worm Pyragraphorus hollisae in silver pompano (Trachinotus blochii) in Lampung waters, Sumatra, Indonesia. This is an experimental laboratory study, and the study design is a cross-sectional study. The purposive sampling method was used to collect silver pompano. The intensity and prevalence of the P. hollisae ectoparasite worm that infested the silver pompano (Tracinotus blochii) in Lampung waters were the main parameters observed. Physical and chemical parameters are used as supporting parameters in this study. In the light category, the P. hollisae ectoparasite worm that infested silver pompano from Lampung waters had an intensity value of 1.38 individuals/head. The prevalence of P. hollisae worms in silver pompano (Trachinotus blochii) in Lampung waters was 86.7 percent in the usual category.

Abstract

Humpback Groupers (Cromileptes altivelis) are a type of fish with great economic value that has the potential to be developed in Indonesia. Pseudorhabdosynochus coioidesis is one of the species that has been documented to infest Humpback Groupers. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence and severity of the parasitic worm Pseudorhabdosynochus coioidesis in Humpback Groupers in Lampung and Situbondo seas. 75 Humpback Groupers (20-35 cm) were sampled from Lampung waters, and 60 from Situbondo seas. The data were processed descriptively and presented in tabular form. The results showed that there was Pseudorhabdosynochus coioidesis worm infestation on the gills of Humpback Groupers in Lampung and Situbondo waters. The prevalence value of Pseudorhabdosynochus coioidesis in Humpback Groupers in Lampung waters was 93% with the almost always category and the intensity value was 1.48 in the low category while in Situbondo waters the prevalence value was 95% with the almost always category and the intensity value was 1.33 with low category. The low-intensity result indicates that the presence of Pseudorhabdosynochus coioidesis is not as dangerous to crop yields, but it should still be monitored.
