Abstract

Physical fatigue among textile workers is caused by non-ergonomic working postures (e.g., prolonged standing) and personal characteristics such as age, length of service, and body mass index (BMI). The objective of the present investigation was to study the effect of working posture on physical fatigue after adjusting for the covariates of age, length of service, and BMI. An analytical cross-sectional study with a quantitative design was applied to 174 Surakarta workers selected by stratified random sampling. Work posture was categorized under standing and sitting, while physical fatigue was measured by the Subjective Self Rating Test (SSRT) questionnaire. ANCOVA via SPSS version 27 software was applied for the analysis, in which age, length of service, and BMI were employed as covariates. The findings indicated that the standing posture was strongly influenced positively on physical fatigue (Partial Eta Squared = 0.547, p < 0.001), and the effect size is large. Significant risk factors were also found to be age (p = 0.012) and BMI (p = 0.035), but the length of service was not significant (p = 0.084). The ANCOVA model also showed excellent predictability values of adjusted R 2 = 0.715, which implied that the model was able to explain 71.5 percent of the physical fatigue. These findings emphasize the importance of posture-based ergonomic interventions to prevent fatigue and improve occupational health in the textile industry

Abstract

Occupational noise is one of the main preventable hazards that can seriously affect workers' health and productivity, causing noise-induced hearing loss. This study aims to analyze the relationship between noise exposure, age, and length of service with the level of hearing loss among workers in the textile weaving industry at PT X. This analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 30 workers in the textile weaving industry in Surakarta using purposive sampling techniques. Data were obtained through noise intensity measurements and audiometric examinations. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank test with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the average noise level at the workplace reached 90.78 dB, with the highest exposure in Room 5 Ring Line C at 104.78 dB. The correlation test showed a significant relationship between age (r= 0.411; p=0.024) and length of service (r=0.400; p=0.029) with the left ear hearing threshold value, while noise intensity was not significantly related. This indicates that individual factors and job characteristics such as age and length of service play a more dominant role in hearing loss than variations in workplace noise levels. It is concluded that there is a significant relationship between age and length of service and a decrease in the left ear hearing threshold of workers.

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is highly likely to occur among garment workers because of the fact that they are subjected to prolonged periods of inactivity sitting in non-ergonomic chairs. The ergonomic chair intervention can be regarded as effective in terms of decreasing the level of discomfort and enhancing the comfort at work. The objective of this community service activity was to minimize the risk of LBP by providing ergonomic chairs and posture education in the form of anthropometry to the garment workers. The intervention was done with 22 garment workers in May 2025 and the intervention involved the provision of the ergonomic chairs based on the anthropometric data of the workers. To assess the body posture, the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) was used and to determine the level of disability caused by LBP, the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) was used, where the assessments were done immediately and two weeks after the intervention. The results were found to have significantly improved as the RULA score (a 5.36 to 4.14) and LBP score (a 19.73 to 8.09) dropped by 22.8% and 59.0% respectively which indicated an improvement in the working posture and the reduction in musculoskeletal complaints respectively. The ergonomic chair aided in staying in a more upright and natural sitting position thus alleviating pressure on the spine and back muscles. On the whole, the intervention was useful in the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders and enhancing the comfort of workers, which is an effective ergonomic solution to the garment industry.

Abstract

Globally, 1 in 10 toddlers were underweight or wasting for their age in 2018. According to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey, the prevalence of nutritional status (weight/height) among children aged 0-59 months in Indonesia reached 8.5%. In Central Java, the prevalence was 7.1% (wasting = 5.5% and severely wasting = 1.6%), while Kudus had a prevalence of 8.7%, above the Central Java average. Many factors are known to contribute to wasting, including inadequate exclusive breastfeeding and vitamin A intake; poor-quality complementary feeding (MP-ASI; illnesses such as diarrhea, acute respiratory infections (ARI), worm infections, and other infectious diseases; incomplete immunization; delayed treatment of sick toddlers; and poor household hygiene. Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and a history of infectious diseases (Diarrhea, ARI, and Tuberculosis) with the incidence of wasting in children aged 12-59 months. Methods: This case-control study involved 150 children (50 with wasting and 100 with normal nutrition status). Data was collected through Weight measurement using digital scales, Height measurement using digital TB measuring instruments, and interviews with parents/guardians using questionnaires. The data analysis used was univariate using frequency distribution and bivariate using chi-square.Results: The variable that has a significant relationship with the incidence of wasting in children aged 12-59 months is exclusive breastfeeding (p-value = 0.018). In comparison, the history of infectious diseases diarrhea (p-value = 0.271), ARI (p-value = 0.950), and tuberculosis (p-value = 1.000) did not have a significant relationship with the incidence of Wasting in Kudus Regency. Conclusions: Exclusive breastfeeding in toddlers correlates with the incidence of wasting. Fulfilling toddler nutrition with exclusive breastfeeding can strengthen the child's body's immunity against various infectious diseases.KEYWORDS: wasting; exclusive breastfeeding; diarrhea; ARI; tuberculosis Received: Nov 26, 2024; Revised: Nov 12 2024; Accepted: Nov 28, 2024; Available online: Nov 30, 2024; Published: Nov 30, 2024.

Abstract

KATA KUNCI: ASI eksklusif; minimum acceptable diet; penyakit infeksi; stunting  ABSTRACTBackground: Stunting is a condition resulting from long-term malnutrition, leading to growth failure within the first 1,000 days of life. Brebes Regency has the highest stunting rate in Central Java, at 29.1%. The child's level of infection and the amount of macro- and micronutrients they consume directly impact stunting. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between the Minimum Acceptable Diet (MAD), exclusive breastfeeding, and infectious diseases with stunting among children aged 6-23 months in Brebes Regency. Methods: This quantitative study utilized secondary data from the 2022 SSGI and employed a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of children aged 6-23 months, as recorded in the 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) data for Brebes Regency. A total of 189 children were included in the study, selected through total sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed univariately with a frequency distribution table, bivariately with a Chi-Square test, and multivariately with a binary logistic regression test. Results: Toddlers who do not reach the MAD have a 1.30 times risk of experiencing stunting, and toddlers with a history of infectious diseases have a 1.33 times risk of stunting, but this is not statistically significant (p-value >0.05). This variable is insignificant because MAD is influenced by several factors, such as the mother's and father's education, antenatal visits, and place of residence, as well as a definition of infectious disease that is too broad. The insignificant relationship between MAD and stunting may also result from biases in measuring MAD, which rely on the recall of food intake over the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, toddlers who are not exclusively breastfed can increase the risk of stunting 2.38 times, and it is statistically significant (p-value 0.013). Conclusion: Stunting is not correlated with either MAD or infectious disease; however, it is significantly associated with exclusive breastfeeding.  KEYWORDS: exclusive breastfeeding; infectious diseases; minimum acceptable diet; stunting

Abstract

Infectious diseases are the leading cause of child mortality in Indonesia, yet many deaths can be prevented through immunization. The 2023 Indonesian Health Survey reported a national full basic immunization coverage of only 35.8%, a decrease from 57.9% in 2018 and far from the 100% target. Surakarta City achieved a coverage of 98.34% in 2023, showing strong regional commitment, although it still does not fully meet national goals. This study analyzes the influence of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) on the use of immunization services for infants in Surakarta. Using a cross-sectional design, 200 mothers with infants aged 12–24 months were selected through multistage random sampling. Independent variables include intention, attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control; the dependent variable is the use of infant immunization services. Data were collected via structured questionnaires and analyzed using linear regression and path analysis. The study found that intention directly affects the use of immunization services (b=0.20; 95% CI=0.07 to 0.33; p<0.00). Attitude, subjective norm, and outcome evaluation indirectly influence immunization service use through intention. The path model demonstrated good fit (CFI = 0.979; TLI = 0.964; RMSEA = 0.079; SRMR = 0.037). Intention plays a crucial role in the use of immunization services, with attitude, subjective norm, and outcome evaluation affecting use through intention. The study model shows good fit. Increasing immunization uptake should focus on strengthening intention through positive attitudes, social norms, and education.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the relation between age, body mass index (BMI), and blood pressure and total cholesterol levels in mining workers in PT Harmoni Panca Utama, Job Site KDA. The cross-sectional design was used and a multiple linear regression was carried out to determine the relationship between the independent variables and the overall cholesterol levels. The analysis showed that age and BMI were significant in influencing the level of total cholesterol (p < 0.001), but the systolic and diastolic blood pressure did not exhibit significant relations. Age was associated with more LDL and total cholesterol deposition because of age-related changes in lipid metabolism, and the excessive body weight (BMI) was associated with dyslipidemia because of visceral fat deposition and dysfunctional lipoprotein metabolism. These results have highlighted the significance of occupational health-serial of monitoring concerning the age and the nutritional status of workers to avoid cardiometabolism complications.
