Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) supported by multirepresentation media in improving students' conceptual understanding of temperature and changes in the state of matter. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design with non-equivalent control groups was used. The research participants consisted of two classes of 11th-grade students majoring in science at SMA Negeri 1 Tumijajar, selected through cluster sampling. Data were collected through a test that measured seven indicators of conceptual understanding. The results showed a significant increase in conceptual understanding in both groups; however, the experimental group achieved much higher posttest scores and levels of improvement. The experimental group obtained an average N-gain of 0.68, while the control group achieved 0.49. Inferential analysis confirmed a significant difference in posttest scores between the groups, demonstrating the effectiveness of PBL supported by multirepresentational media in facilitating conceptual understanding. The improvement was particularly evident in higher-order indicators such as interpreting, comparing, explaining, and concluding. These findings suggest that the integration of multi-representation media in PBL is very effective as a cognitive scaffold to enhances students' ability to construct and translate abstract physics concepts, making learning more effective, meaningful, and cognitively structured.

Abstract

The low understanding of science concepts among elementary school students remains a problem influenced by teacher-centered learning. This condition requires the implementation of learning strategies that can activate students' cognitive processes systematically. This study aims to analyze the effect of the MURDER learning strategy assisted by Wordwall media on the understanding of science concepts in fifth grade students. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi experimental design of the pretest–posttest control group type. The research sample consisted of 52 students divided into an experimental class and a control class. Data were collected through a concept understanding test and analyzed using an independent t-test. The results showed a significant increase in concept understanding in the experimental class compared to the control class. This finding confirms that a structured cognitive learning strategy supported by interactive media is effective in significantly improving the understanding of science concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the STEM-based project-based learning (PjBL) model in improving students' basic science learning outcomes. The study was conducted at MIS Darul Huda Campang Jaya, Bandar Lampung. This study employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design, specifically the pretest and posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 78 students, divided equally into an experimental class (39 students) and a control class (39 students), selected via simple random sampling. The research instrument was a 20-item multiple-choice science achievement test, which was validated by two science education experts and one science teacher. The validity of each test item was analyzed using Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, while reliability testing using Cronbach's Alpha obtained a coefficient of 0.86, indicating high reliability. Data analysis techniques included normality testing with the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, homogeneity testing with Levene's Test, and hypothesis testing with the independent-samples t-test. The results showed that the significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 indicated a significant difference in students' science learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes. The findings confirmed that implementing the STEM-based PjBL model effectively improved conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and collaboration skills through contextual, hands-on learning experiences. Therefore, this model can be recommended as an innovative approach to enhancing 21st-century competencies in elementary school science learning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate a curriculum synchronisation model between formal and non-formal education to optimise competency-based learning at the secondary school level. The research was motivated by the need to bridge the gap between competencies taught in schools and the skills required in the labour market and society. A mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design was employed. Quantitative data were collected using purposive sampling through questionnaires distributed to 220 respondents, consisting of secondary school teachers, non-formal education managers, and students involved in integrated learning programs. In contrast, qualitative data were obtained through in-depth semi-structured interviews and non-participant classroom observation. Data were analysed using descriptive-inferential statistics and thematic analysis, while the validity of findings was ensured through methodological and source triangulation supported by expert judgment. The findings indicate that the implementation of the synchronised curriculum model increased students' overall competencies by 17%, with the most significant improvement observed in the psychomotor domain. Furthermore, 87% of respondents agreed that collaboration between formal and non-formal education is essential to enhance the relevance of learning. The study concludes that curriculum synchronisation effectively integrates theoretical and practical learning, strengthens institutional collaboration, and supports the implementation of competency-based education. These findings contribute theoretically to the development of integrative curriculum design and offer practical implications for adaptive and sustainable national education policies. However, this study is limited by its relatively short implementation period and its focus on a specific regional context, which may affect the generalizability of the findings.

Abstract

The integration of digital technology into senior high school physics teaching is becoming more urgent to support students’ engagement and understanding of abstract concepts, especially in time-limited classroom settings. TikTok, as a short-form video platform with strong visual and audiovisual features, offers potential to deliver brief, interactive learning content aligned with students’ digital habits. This study aimed to create STEM-based learning videos on renewable energy topics through TikTok and to evaluate their feasibility and appeal as teaching tools. The study used a Research and Development (R&D) approach, employing the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), and was conducted at SMA Islam Elsyihab Bandar Lampung. Product feasibility was assessed by four validators two media experts and two content experts while user responses were gathered from a physics teacher and 37 students via questionnaires. The results show that the videos are highly feasible: media expert validation averaged 90%, and content expert validation averaged 84%, both classified as very feasible. User evaluations also demonstrated strong acceptance; the teacher rated the videos as 96% (very interesting), and student responses averaged 92% (very interesting), indicating high perceived attractiveness and educational support. The novelty of this study lies in combining a STEM instructional design with TikTok short videos on renewable energy physics, supported by a systematic ADDIE development process and tested by multiple stakeholders for feasibility and appeal. In conclusion, STEM-focused TikTok learning videos are feasible, engaging, and accessible digital resources that can supplement traditional instruction and promote student-centered learning in senior high school physics. This study advances physics education by offering a validated model for utilizing popular social media platforms to deliver structured STEM content and boost engagement through technology-rich learning environments.
