Abstract

Abstract

As a means of cultivating ideals in social life and within formal settings, Islamic education in the Indonesian archipelago has been a long process of transforming Islamic principles. The goal of this curriculum is to shape complete human beings, whole in spirit, mind, and community—a goal that goes beyond simply transferring knowledge. Local institutions such as halaqah (Islamic spiritual circles), meunasah (Islamic boarding schools), and pesantren (Islamic educational schools) have evolved to meet the needs of Muslims throughout history, beginning with marriage, trade, and da'wah (Islamic outreach). Indonesia's oldest cultural institution, the pesantren, played a crucial role in da'wah, the development of ulama (Islamic scholars), and the struggle for independence. The presence of ulama and the Islamic da'wah process, or rihlah ilmiyah (Islamic outreach), also helped ensure the continued development of Islamic scholarship throughout the Indonesian archipelago. The colonial era, which prohibited Islamic education, was only one of many obstacles that Islamic schools had to overcome. However, it also sparked many new ideas, such as how to combine religious and secular education in Islamic madrasas. The transition from IAIN to UIN is just one example of how Islamic education has adapted to the contemporary global era through digitalization, curriculum reform, and institutional change. Islamic education in Indonesia is an effective system for producing moderate, character-based, and internationally competitive Muslims because it is both traditional and adaptive.

Abstract

Religious education for Muslims is an Islamic education derived from the Qur'an and the Sunnah. This article examines the dynamics of the transformation and progress of Islamic education after the death of the Prophet Muhammad, specifically the changes in Islamic education during the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs. It explains how the educational system was implemented in each caliphate and the different situations, as well as the factors underlying the educational systems implemented at that time. The findings of this study indicate that the educational pattern during the era of Caliph Abu Bakr remained generally similar to that of the Prophet Muhammad. The development of Islam progressed rapidly during the era of Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab, which was succeeded by Caliph Uthman ibn Affan. However, several fundamental changes occurred, particularly in the policies and educational methods used.

Abstract

A comparison between Islamic educational practices and the emergence of multicultural principles during three major phases of Islamic civilization: the era of the Prophet Muhammad, the period of the Companions, and the Islamic Golden Age. Using a qualitative-historical approach, this study analyzes classical Islamic texts, historical sources, and contemporary academic works. Findings reveal that Islamic education has been inherently multicultural, emphasizing tolerance, justice, equality, pluralism, and intellectual openness. During the Prophets time, multicultural values were implemented through the teaching of Quranic ethics and the Charter of Medina. The Companions institutionalized these values through governance and public education. Meanwhile, the Islamic Golden Age demonstrated the highest multicultural expression through knowledge translation, cross-cultural academic collaboration, and institutional learning spaces such as Bayt al-Hikmah. This research concludes that Islamic education historically practiced multicultural frameworks long before the formation of modern multicultural educational theories.

Abstract

This study examines the central role of figures and institutions in the development of Islamic education during the golden age, particularly from the 8th to the 14th centuries CE, and their relevance for the renewal of Islamic education in the modern era. Using library research methods, this study traces the contributions of great scholars such as Al-Kindi, Al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, Al-Ghazali, Ibn Rushd, Al-Biruni, and Al-Khawarizmi, and examines the function of classical educational institutions including the Nizamiyah Madrasah, Al-Qarawiyyin University, and Bayt al-Hikmah in building a strong Islamic intellectual tradition. The research findings indicate that the success of Islamic education during the golden age was supported by the integration of religious and rational sciences, a strong institutional ecosystem, and a scientific ethos that respects morality and character. In the modern era, fundamental values such as the integration of knowledge, character education, a holistic curriculum, and the use of technology remain highly relevant and can serve as models in responding to the challenges of globalization, digitalization, and the need for 21st-century competencies. Thus, the legacy of classical Islamic education provides a strategic foundation for strengthening a sustainable, innovative, and globally competitive Islamic education system.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and implement appropriate geometric educational teaching aids for early childhood (PAUD), and to measure their influence on the understanding of the concept of plane figures (triangle, square, rectangle, circle, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon). The study uses an R&D (Research & Development) approach with the following stages: (1) designing props made of felt, (2) limited trials in PAUD classes, (3) evaluation through comprehension and observation tests. The results show that the use of props significantly increases students' understanding scores compared to before use, as well as increasing motivation and learning activities. These findings indicate that well-designed, interactive and kinesthetic geometric teaching aids can be an effective medium in geometry learning for PAUD. Practical implications for PAUD teachers and learning media developers are outlined.

Abstract

Learning the hijaiyah letters in early childhood is an important foundation in the development of religious literacy, so creative and fun methods are needed to increase children's interest in learning. This study focuses on the effectiveness of the Hijaiyah Letter Tree media in improving the ability of PAUD children in recognizing, naming, and attaching hijaiyah letters through a playful approach. The purpose of this study is to describe the learning process using this media, assess the development of children's abilities, and identify supporting factors and obstacles during the activity. This study also provides benefits for teachers, children, institutions, and parents in strengthening hijaiyah learning in an integrated manner. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a Classroom Action Research (CAR) model. The research subjects consisted of 15 children from group B PAUD Pembina, Karang Jaya District. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and formative assessment, then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the Hijaiyah Letter Tree media is effective in increasing children's attention, motivation, and ability to recognize and pronounce hijaiyah letters. Most children were able to display good learning performance, while some children required further assistance, especially in aspects of pronunciation and learning focus. The visual, verbal, and kinesthetic activities combined in this medium contribute to increased child engagement during the learning process. In conclusion, the Hijaiyah Letter Tree can be used as an alternative learning medium that is effective, interactive, and appropriate for the developmental characteristics of early childhood. Reinforcement through parental involvement is essential to maintain consistent learning at home.

Abstract

Early childhood development assessment needs to be conducted authentically and enjoyably, in accordance with the characteristics of learning through play. However, assessment practices in early childhood education (PAUD) are still dominated by traditional assessments that do not reflect children's natural abilities. This study examines the use of dice games as a medium for assessing children's cognitive development at Nur Faizah PAUD to overcome the limitations of conventional assessments and improve the accuracy of learning assessments. The study aims to describe the implementation of dice-based assessments and their effectiveness in assessing numeracy and number recognition skills. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach through observation, interviews, and documentation of 15 children in group B and their classroom teachers. The results showed that dice games can increase learning motivation and enable cognitive assessment to occur naturally. Most children were able to correctly name the numbers according to the dice roll results, and approximately 70% of children were able to perform simple addition using two dice. In addition to academic outcomes, this activity also stimulated social-emotional development such as cooperation, waiting for turns, emotional regulation, and communication during play. Teachers acknowledged that assessment through dice games facilitated observation of the learning process without causing stress for children, although obstacles such as limited game equipment and recording of assessment results were still encountered. Overall, the dice game proved to be an effective, fun, and developmentally appropriate assessment instrument for early childhood, and supported the principles of the Independent Curriculum, which is oriented towards meaningful and child-centered learning.
