Abstract

This study explores the relationships between perceived digital competence, attitude towards digital technology, learning agility, and student engagement among 246 junior high school students in Muaro Jambi Regency. Using a quantitative approach and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis, the research investigates how these variables interact to influence sustainable student engagement in a digitally enriched academic environment. The findings indicate that perceived digital competence significantly influences learning agility (β = 0.70), while its direct impact on student engagement is negligible (β = -0.02). Similarly, attitudes toward digital technology positively predict learning agility (β = 0.70) and moderately affect student engagement (β = 0.34). Learning agility emerges as a critical mediator, significantly contributing to student engagement (β = 0.48). These results emphasize the pivotal role of learning agility in bridging digital competence, attitudes, and engagement in academic contexts. The study underscores the importance of fostering adaptable and motivated learners to enhance engagement and calls for targeted interventions to strengthen students’ digital capabilities and attitudes. Future research should consider broader sample diversity and include additional antecedents to refine the model and enhance its generalizability.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to explore the implementation and challenges of integrating LIMASTERS (Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Arts) in early childhood education within the School Mover Program in Jambi City. The research responds to the growing demand for 21st-century learning integration at the preschool level and examines how practices align with the principles of the Independent Curriculum.Design/methods/approach –  A qualitative case study design was applied. Data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and the principal, and document analysis of lesson plans and children’s work. Data were analyzed thematically using the Miles and Huberman model of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing.Findings – The study shows that literacy, mathematics, and arts are consistently integrated into daily learning, while science, technology, and engineering remain less developed. Teachers conduct initial assessments to align activities with children’s needs and interests. Key challenges include limited facilities, insufficient time, and teacher competencies. These are partly mitigated through peer collaboration, self-initiated training, and phased implementation.Research implications/limitations – The findings are context-specific and do not address long-term child development outcomes. Nonetheless, they provide valuable insights for designing integrative curricula and teacher training policies in Indonesian ECE (Early Childhood Education).Practical implications – The study offers a practical model for LIMASTERS integration through child-centered exploratory activities that emphasize interactive experiments, scaffolding, and contextualized learning.  Originality/value – This research contributes a holistic framework for balancing literacy and STEAM within early childhood classrooms in a local Indonesian context, highlighting the potential of exploratory and contextual learning to advance curriculum reform.Paper type Case study

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using flashcard media on the symbolic thinking ability of children aged 4–5 years at TK Negeri 54 Talang Bukit. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The research subjects consisted of an experimental group (10 children) and a control group (7 children). The experimental group was taught using flashcard media, while the control group used conventional learning media. Data were collected through observation of children’s symbolic thinking abilities and analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing with an Independent Sample t-test. The results showed that the mean score of symbolic thinking ability in the experimental group increased from 18 in the pretest to 27.70 in the posttest, while the control group increased from 17 to 20.29. The hypothesis test revealed a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 with a t-value of 5.568, which was higher than the t-table value of 1.753, indicating a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. These findings indicate that the use of flashcard media has a significant effect on the symbolic thinking ability of children aged 4–5 years. Therefore, flashcard media can be used as an effective learning medium to stimulate early childhood cognitive development, particularly in developing symbolic thinking skills as a foundation for literacy and numeracy development at subsequent educational levels.

Abstract

Language development is an important aspect of early childhood development because it supports children’s ability to communicate, express ideas, and interact with their social environment. However, in learning practices, some children still experience limitations in language abilities due to the lack of engaging and interactive learning media. This study aims to examine the effect of the Magic Box (Mystery Box) media on the language skills of children aged 5–6 years at TK Negeri 54 Talang Bukit. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of 24 children divided into two groups: 12 children in the experimental group and 12 children in the control group. Data were collected using an observation sheet containing 15 indicators of children's language skills. Data analysis was conducted through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing using an independent sample t-test. The results showed that the average language skill score in the experimental group increased from 27.91 to 48.5, while the control group increased from 24.58 to 27.5. The hypothesis test indicated that t-count (6.584) > t-table (1.717) at a significance level of 0.05 with an effect size of 2.79, categorized as a strong effect. These findings indicate that the Magic Box media is effective in improving early childhood language skills through interactive and enjoyable learning activities.
