Abstract

Transformational Leadership is a person's skill in influencing others so that they are willing to follow what their leader wants. In the educational context, an educator, known as a teacher, is a profession crucial for implementing the best education. This study aims to understand how teachers interpret and give meaning to transformational leadership styles within the context of a phenomenological study. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using a qualitative Max Van Manen hermeneutics approach with three themes and subthemes: motivation, inspiration, and intellectual stimulation. Teachers were selected and described in a measurable manner to explore their experiences and emerging meanings. The results indicate that transformational leadership provides motivation, inspiration, and intellectual stimulation that encourage teacher performance in achieving achievement, while strengthening interpersonal relationships and professionalism. This study emphasizes the importance of implementing transformational policies in improving the performance and quality of education in schools. These findings empower the development of principals' leadership competencies to create a more productive learning environment and support teacher development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of supportive leadership by school principals and school culture on teachers’ performance in junior high schools in Limapuluh Kota Regency. The main issue addressed in this research is the variation in teachers’ performance, which is presumed to be influenced by differences in principals’ leadership styles and the strength of school culture in each educational institution. The study employs a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with principals, teachers, and educational staff selected purposively. Data were analyzed through processes of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing using thematic analysis techniques. The findings reveal that supportive leadership by principals has a strong impact on improving teachers’ performance. Principals who demonstrate empathy, provide moral and professional support, and foster open communication are proven to enhance teachers’ motivation, self-confidence, and loyalty to their duties. Moreover, a positive school culture, characterized by values of cooperation, discipline, responsibility, openness, and appreciation for achievement, also contributes significantly to shaping professional and quality-oriented teacher performance. Both variables show a complementary and reinforcing relationship. Supportive leadership serves as a driving force for establishing a healthy school culture, while a strong school culture enhances the effectiveness of supportive leadership.

Abstract

Digital transformation has changed the landscape of educational organisations—replacing many face-to-face interactions with hybrid and virtual interactions and requiring education leaders to adapt their leadership styles. This article reviews the 2015–2025 literature on two leadership styles relevant to the digital age: supportive leadership and authentic leadership, and how these two styles help build trust and team support in the digital education environment. The research method was a systematic literature review of relevant journals, scientific articles, policy reports, and literature reviews. The synthesis results show: (1) effective digital leadership requires a combination of personal support and openness/authenticity to maintain trust; (2) concrete practices include structured communication, technology support policies, collaborative learning, and decision transparency; (3) the main obstacles are uneven digital literacy, cultural resistance, and infrastructure limitations. Recommendations are provided for school leaders and educational institutions to implement interventions focused on strengthening interpersonal relationships, establishing clear virtual work rules, and improving staff digital capabilities.

Abstract

Digital leadership requires headteachers not only to understand the use of technology, but also how it can be utilised to improve efficiency, teaching quality, and student learning outcomes. The digital era has transformed the role of headteachers from traditional managers to digital leaders who facilitate, direct, and accelerate the integration of technology in learning. This literature review article examines the concept of digital leadership in school principals, its main dimensions (digital vision, teacher professional development, resource and data management, innovation culture, ethics & data security), and the mechanisms by which such leadership influences technology adoption and the quality of technology-based learning. The study utilises empirical literature and a systematic review of publications from 2015–2025 to formulate a conceptual model and practical recommendations for policymakers and school practitioners. Findings indicate that effective digital leadership combines strategic vision, teacher capacity building, data management policies, and a collaborative culture which significantly improve the readiness and quality of technology-based learning

Abstract

Every student activity—from diagnostic assessments and daily reflections to project assignments and interactions with learning videos—is recorded automatically and displayed graphically and with risk predictions via the PMM dashboard. The potential for this data to support strategic decision-making at the school level is significant, yet a national survey shows that most elementary schools still use this data solely for report card administration and reporting to the education office. This study explores the utilization of learning analytics from the Merdeka Mengajar Platform (PMM) as a strategic decision-making tool in elementary schools, focusing on the role of the principal's digital leadership. Using a qualitative case study method, data were collected through interviews (n=10), PMM dashboard analysis, and three-month observation at SD Negeri 21 Simpang Rumbio, Kota Solok, West Sumatra (July–September 2025). Findings reveal five key applications: early risk identification, differentiated learning groups, flexible scheduling, teacher development, and parent reporting. The principal's digital leadership increased utilization from 24 % (2023) to 89 % (2025) through vision, infrastructure, and data culture. This contributes practical insights for basic education in developing countries, recommending principal training and data literacy programs.
