Abstract

Background: Effective and continuity discharge planning is vital in care continuity and integrated care. Continuity discharge planning can reduce avoidable hospital readmission, and fulfillment improves the quality of care. Prevention efforts to prevent the re-attacks and readmission because of this CVA attack should be started early before the patients return home from the hospital. Purpose: This research aims to review the effect of discharge planning on the readiness of returning home in CVA patients. Methods: We included english materials published between Science Direct, PubMed, Research Gate, and Google Scholar that were used to find studies on discharge planning, readiness, and transitional care between 2016- 2021. Results: Discharge planning is carried out in three-stage, inpatient admission and intra-hospital when the patient is about to be discharged from the hospital. In the first stage, the nurse explains patient admission, regulation, and management when the patient enters the hospital. The second stage is when the patient is hospitalized, which consists of nurses providing education about medication, environment, health, outpatient referral, and diet. While the last stage is when the patient will be discharged, the nurse explains the control, medication, and nutrition schedule at home. Post-stroke rehabilitation and recovery is a chronic process. Conclusion: Review of discharge planning can be influenced by several factors: individual characteristics (clients' potential with special needs early, motivation), family factors (social resources, home environment), and health care system (teaching home care skills with community/ hospital professionals. These factors will affect the implementation of discharge planning in health services which is hospital accreditation.

Abstract

The development of digital technology requires educators to master 21st-century skills, including digital literacy and computational thinking. Although the government encourages the integration of coding and artificial intelligence in the curriculum, there is still a significant competency gap among elementary school teachers, especially at Cambaya IV Elementary School in Makassar, where most teachers do not yet understand the basic concepts or application of these technologies in learning. This community service activity aims to provide practical training in coding and artificial intelligence in order to improve conceptual understanding and digital skills, as well as motivate teachers to create an innovative learning environment for students. The implementation method consisted of three main stages, namely planning through material preparation and technical coordination, implementation consisting of introductory sessions on coding and artificial intelligence, training with a hands-on approach both without devices and using applications, and mentoring to help teachers apply the material independently. The final stage was reporting, which involved reflection and evaluation of the entire series of activities. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in the understanding, confidence, and motivation of all participating teachers in integrating coding and artificial intelligence into learning. Through hands-on practice using device-free methods and application-based methods such as ScratchJr and simple artificial intelligence platforms, teachers gained concrete experiences that were useful for developing creative teaching strategies. The conclusion of this activity is that hands-on training and contextual mentoring have proven effective in improving teachers' technological competencies through the active involvement of the educational community. An important new aspect of this activity confirms that strengthening teachers' capacity through practical experience is key to supporting the transformation of digital literacy at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Background: Maternal guilt is a common emotional experience among working mothers, often associated with challenges in fulfilling both professional and caregiving roles. Female nurses, especially those working in intensive care units (ICUs), encounter pressures due to heavy workloads, irregular schedules, and the emotional intensity of patient care. These conditions make them particularly vulnerable to feelings of guilt when family responsibilities are perceived as being neglected. Objective: This study aimed to explore how maternal guilt is experienced in the personal and professional lives of female ICU nurses in South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Methods: A qualitative descriptive design using thematic analysis within a constructivist paradigm was employed. Ten married female ICU nurses who were mothers and had at least five years of ICU experience were purposively recruited through nurse managers from three regional public hospitals. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews, with member checking and researcher triangulation used to enhance credibility. Interviews were conducted between March and June 2024, transcribed, translated, and analyzed following Braun and Clarke’s six-phase framework. Results: Three themes were identified: (1) the internal burden of perceived inadequacy, reflected in persistent feelings of inadequacy, emotional exhaustion, cognitive overload, anxiety and sadness, and self-blame; (2) relational strain and compensatory parenting, including disrupted parent–child bonding, compensatory parenting behaviors, and increased emotional dependence on spouses; and (3) professional strain and competing care responsibilities, characterized by reduced work focus and distraction, fatigue and thoughts of resignation, and role conflict between professional and maternal responsibilities. These findings indicate that maternal guilt emerged as a multidimensional experience permeating both personal and professional domains. Conclusion: Maternal guilt emerged as a salient experience shaping nurse mothers’ emotional well-being, family relationships, and professional functioning. The findings suggest that collectivist cultural expectations and idealized motherhood norms may contribute to shaping the experience of guilt among Indonesian ICU nurses.  These insights underscore the need for supportive workplace policies, flexible scheduling, and accessible psychosocial services to sustain nurses’ well-being and retention in high-demand clinical environments.

Abstract

Hemodialysis patients face complex issues, including decreased self-efficacy, high stress levels, and diminished quality of life. Comprehensive interventions are required to enhance patients' self-management capabilities. This study aims to analyze the effect of structured self-care management health education based on peer group support on the self-efficacy, stress, and quality of life of hemodialysis patients. This quasi-experimental study used a pre-post test control group design involving 70 respondents (35 intervention, 35 control) selected via consecutive sampling. The intervention group received four sessions of structured health education based on peer support. Research instruments included a self-efficacy questionnaire, the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-42), and the KDQOL-SF 1.3. Data were analyzed using Paired T-Test and Mann-Whitney tests. There were significant increases in self-efficacy (p=0.006) and quality of life (p=0.000), as well as a significant decrease in stress levels (p=0.027) within the intervention group. In contrast, the control group showed no significant changes across the three variables (p > 0.05). Peer group support proved effective in facilitating the exchange of experiences and emotional support, which strengthened patients' self-belief in managing their condition. Structured self-care management health education based on peer group support is effective in improving self-efficacy and quality of life while reducing stress levels in hemodialysis patients. This intervention is recommended as an integral part of supportive nursing care in hemodialysis units.

Abstract

Routine hemodialysis patients frequently experience anxiety, chronic fatigue, and sleep disturbances, necessitating a holistic non-pharmacological approach. This study aims to analyze the effect of combined Intradialytic Exercise–Range of Motion (IDE-ROM) and cinnamon aromatherapy on anxiety, fatigue, and sleep quality among patient at RSUD Syarifah Ambami Rato Ebu Bangkalan. This quantitative research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach. Seventy respondents were selected through purposive sampling and divided into a control group (n=35) and an intervention group (n=35). The intervention group received a combination of IDE-ROM and cinnamon aromatherapy inhalation across six sessions over one month. Data were collected using the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (FACIT) fatigue scale, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data analysis was performed using Paired t-tests and MANOVA. The intervention significantly affected all three variables (p < 0.05). MANOVA results indicated the strongest effect on sleep quality (p < 0.001), while the variables of anxiety (p = 0.348) and fatigue (p = 0.121) showed lower significance levels compared to sleep quality. The combination of IDE-ROM and cinnamon aromatherapy is effective in improving the physical and psychological conditions of patients. This intervention provides the most dominant influence on enhancing the sleep quality of the respondents.
