Abstract

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objective: Poverty remains a significant challenge for local governments in achieving economic development goals in Jambi Province. To address this issue, local governments have undertaken efforts to improve the quality of education and healthcare. Additionally, development initiatives are expected to enhance income distribution within society. This study aims to examine and analyze the effects of education and healthcare on poverty reduction in Jambi Province. Unlike previous studies, this research incorporates the Gini ratio as a predictor variable for poverty rate. Research Methodology: The data utilized in this study are secondary data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics of Jambi Province. The data comprise panel data from 11 regencies and cities for the period 2011–2023. The analytical model employed is panel regression using the fixed-effects approach. Findings/Results: The study reveals that education and healthcare have a significant and negative impact on poverty rate. Improved education and healthcare quality are associated with lower poverty rate. Conversely, income inequality, has a significant positive effect on poverty, where an increase in the Gini ratio leads to higher poverty rate. Conclusion/Recommendations: Poverty rate in Jambi Province are significantly influenced by the quality of education and healthcare, as well as income inequality. Abstract

Introduction/Main Objective: Labor force participation is crucial for improving household economic conditions. Theoretically, labor force participation in the job market can be influenced by several factors, including poverty levels. Documentation from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Jambi Province indicates that labor force participation rates vary across districts and cities in the province. This study aims to estimate the impact of poverty levels on labor force participation rates in Jambi Province. In this analysis, labor force participation is categorized into male and female labor force participation rates. Research Methodology: This study employs panel data from districts and cities during the 2018–2023 period. All data are sourced from published reports by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Jambi Province. To estimate the relationship between variables, the study utilizes panel regression analysis with a fixed-effects approach. Findings/Results: The study demonstrates that poverty levels have a positive and significant impact on male and female labor force participation rates. The higher the poverty level, the higher the male and female labor force participation in the job market. Conversely, lower poverty levels are associated with lower labor force participation rates. Conclusion/Recommendations: Labor force participation in the job market is significantly determined by poverty levels. In other words, the challenges faced by households in meeting their basic needs drive increased participation in the job market. Therefore, it is recommended that district and city governments in Jambi Province enhance labor force participation by providing training and skills development programs, particularly for impoverished groups.

Abstract

Bengkulu Province, located along the western coast of Sumatra, is one of Indonesia’s most seismically vulnerable regions due to its proximity to major tectonic boundaries. This study aims to enhance earthquake-resilient infrastructure planning by developing a two-dimensional geospatial model of key geotechnical parameters—Plasticity Index (PI) and water content (ѡ) —in the coastal zone. A total of 65 geotechnical observation points served to generate detailed maps by using the Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) method down to 30 meters depth. The model integrates empirical correlations with statistical and spatial analyses to overcome the challenges of limited data. Results highlight distinct geotechnical variations across different soil layers and administrative regions, revealing zones with high liquefaction potential. The findings provide insight for engineers, urban planners, and disaster risk authorities in designing site-specific construction strategies. This research fills a critical gap in the current literature regarding Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW)-based geospatial modelling in seismically active areas. It offers a replicable framework for other coastal regions with similar geological contexts. Keywords: Plasticity Index; Water Content; Geospatial modeling; Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW)

Abstract

South Sumatra is a province on the island of Sumatra, positioned along the boundary between the Indo-Australian Plate and the Eurasian Plate. The tectonic interaction between these plates has resulted in a mountain range that extends longitudinally from the island’s northern to southern regions, a geological condition that contributes to the area’s susceptibility to natural hazards, one example is the Dempo Volcano. This study uses the four-step model method to analyse the vulnerability of the road network on evacuation routes during the eruption of Dempo Volcano in Pagar Alam City. Eight road sections were observed. A comparison of traffic survey results and numerical modelling was conducted to assess the consistency of the model and also to predict critical conditions. Scenario 1 represents evacuation conditions without any changes to road geometry, while Scenario 2 represents evacuation conditions with modifications in the form of road widening. The analysis showed that most of the population prefers motorcycles as a mode of transport and the fastest route during evacuation, considering the faster evacuation time. Scenario 1 showed a surge in traffic volume, which became an obstacle to evacuation. Scenario 2 can increase capacity and improve traffic flow. The Vulnerability Index indicates that some road sections are vulnerable to evacuation impacts. Abstract

Poverty has been a challenge for economic development in various regions in Indonesia. This study offers empirical insights into the effectiveness of fiscal policy as a strategic development instrument in reducing poverty. This study investigates the impact of local government spending on poverty alleviation in Jambi Province, addressing a critical challenge in regional economic development. We specifically examine the effects of expenditures on health, education, and economic functions on poverty levels. Utilizing panel data from 11 districts and cities in Jambi Province between 2016 and 2023, we employ a dynamic Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) model for robust analysis. Our empirical results indicate that health and economic function expenditures significantly reduce poverty levels. Conversely, while education spending exhibits a negative correlation with poverty, this effect is not statistically significant. These findings highlight the importance of optimizing regional budget allocations, particularly towards health and economic programs, as a practical implication for effective poverty reduction strategies in Jambi Province. This research contributes to understanding the nuanced role of local fiscal policy in addressing poverty in decentralized contexts.

Abstract

Bullying remains a critical concern in Indonesian education, with national and global data highlighting persistently high prevalence rates and profound negative impacts on students’ academic, psychological, and social well-being. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an assertiveness counseling module, utilizing Behavioral Skills Training (BST), in reducing bullying behavior among students at MTs Muhammadiyah 22 Padangsidimpuan. Employing a pre-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design, a purposively selected sample of 50 students, representing victims, bystanders, and perpetrators, participated in the intervention. Quantitative data were collected using a validated Bullying Behavior Scale and analyzed with paired-sample t-tests. Results revealed a significant decrease in bullying tendencies post-intervention, with most students shifting from moderate/high to low/very low categories, and a large effect size indicating substantial practical impact. The findings confirm that BST-based assertiveness education is effective in transforming bullying behaviors and fostering a more positive school climate, aligning with evidence from international literature while addressing gaps in culturally relevant interventions for religious and semi-rural educational settings. This research contributes practical guidance for integrating assertiveness training into counseling curricula and underscores the urgent need for skill-based anti-bullying strategies in Indonesian schools. Future studies are recommended to employ randomized controlled trials, expand to multiple school contexts, and examine the long-term sustainability of behavioral change to enhance the generalizability and impact of assertiveness education in preventing bullying.
