Abstract

Blood pressure in athletes is an important topic in exercise physiology studies, given its influence on performance and long-term health. In general, athletes exhibit lower blood pressure at rest compared to sedentary individuals, as a result of the body's adaptation to regular physical exercise. The purpose of this method is to analyze and collate knowledge relevant to the research topic. In this study, 12 articles from national and international journals published between 2015 and 2023 were used. The articles were obtained from databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar. The collected sources were then analyzed using the systematic literature review method. The result of this study is that blood pressure in athletes can be different compared to individuals who are not involved in intense physical activity, due to the body's adaptation to regular exercise. Blood pressure in athletes is influenced by a variety of factors, including sport type, training pattern, age, gender, as well as genetic and environmental factors. Understanding these blood pressure patterns is important for optimizing performance and maintaining cardiovascular health in athletes.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are commonly experienced by office workers, particularly those who spend long hours working in front of computers with non-ergonomic postures. Frequent complaints such as pain in the neck, back, arms, and wrists are often caused by unsupported sitting positions or the use of work equipment that does not adhere to ergonomic principles. An evaluation to understand the relationship between work posture and musculoskeletal complaints among office workers is necessary to assess its risk level for MSDs.. One effective method to assess MSD risk is the Rapid Office Strain Assessment (ROSA). This method evaluates three key aspects of the work environment: chair design, monitor position, and the placement of the mouse and keyboard, all of which significantly impact worker comfort and health. The assessment assigns scores to each element to determine the level of risk. Studies reveal that many workers face high risks due to non-ergonomic working postures, which directly contribute to musculoskeletal complaints. Implementing ergonomic principles, such as using chairs that support proper posture, adjusting desk height to match the worker's stature, and optimizing computer device arrangements, is crucial to reducing these risks. Additionally, incorporating breaks for stretching into work schedules is strongly recommended. These measures not only alleviate MSD complaints but also enhance workplace comfort and overall productivity.

Abstract

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a catechin compound found in green tea and is known for its various health benefits, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial activity. Research on the antibacterial effects of EGCG shows that this compound has significant potential in inhibiting the growth of various pathogens, both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, are more sensitive to EGCG than Gram-negative bacteria. The antibacterial mechanism of EGCG in Gram-positive bacteria involves disrupting cell membrane integrity and inhibiting biofilm formation, while in Gram-negative bacteria, EGCG can increase the permeability of the outer membrane and increase the penetration efficiency of antibiotics. However, the main challenge in using EGCG against Gram-negative bacteria is the structural barrier present in the outer membrane, which limits the penetration of the compound. The use of EGCG in combination therapy with antibiotics shows great potential in overcoming antibiotic-resistant infections, strengthening antibacterial activity, and reducing side effects. Although EGCG shows promise as an antibacterial therapy, challenges related to bioavailability, stability, and formulation need to be overcome to optimize its potential in the treatment of difficult-to-treat bacterial infections.

Abstract

Cardiorespiratory endurance is a key indicator of physical fitness, reflecting the efficiency of the heart, lungs, and circulatory system in transporting and utilizing oxygen. Low cardiorespiratory endurance can increase cardiac workload and blood pressure, ultimately elevating the risk of cardiovascular disease. In addition to cardiorespiratory endurance, body mass index (BMI) is another important measure of physical fitness. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between BMI and cardiorespiratory endurance among members of the Futsal Community of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lampung. This analytic observational study employed a cross-sectional design. A total sampling technique was used, involving 62 student members of the futsal community. The independent variable was BMI, calculated as body weight (kg) divided by height squared (m²). The dependent variable was cardiorespiratory endurance, assessed using the Rockport test. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. In this study, most of the participants had a normal BMI (40.32%), while cardiorespiratory endurance levels were predominantly categorized as poor (38.71%) and fair (37.81%). Bivariate analysis yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant association between BMI and cardiorespiratory endurance among members of the Futsal Community of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lampung. The direction of the correlation was negative, meaning that an increase in BMI was associated with a decrease in cardiorespiratory endurance.
