Abstract

This research discusses the analysis of speech acts in Abu Ubaidah's speech 36 days after the conflict between Hamas and Israel. The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze the types of illocutionary speech acts used in the speech based on John Searle's speech act theory. This research is important because it provides an in-depth understanding of how language is used in the context of conflict to achieve various communicative goals, as well as being a reference for the pragmatic linguistic study of John Searle's speech act theory as a language capable of producing action and providing additional information about the development of the Hamas-Israel conflict. The method used in this research is qualitative with library study techniques, allowing in-depth analysis of the speech material. The main findings of this research show that Abu Ubaidah's speech contains four types of illocutionary speech acts, namely assertive, directive, commissive and expressive. Examples of assertive speech acts include conveying information about war situations, while directive speech acts include praying and giving advice. Promises or oaths represent commissive speech acts, and expressive speech acts include greeting, criticizing, and praising. These results indicate that the speech was designed to not only convey information but also to motivate, inspire, and mobilize listeners. This research emphasizes the urgency of understanding language use in conflict contexts.

Abstract

Reading proficiency is one of the important aspects of language learning. Arabic language assessment is also assessed through the individual's reading proficiency. Obstacles found in one Arabic language learning proficiency are aspects that need to be considered. Students experience obstacles that affect their learning achievement. Having an in-depth identification of the problems of maharah qiraah will make it easier for teachers to teach Arabic. This study uses a qualitative approach with a systematic literature review method. Data sources are obtained from the results of research conducted by other researchers. This is done so that researchers can access more information about the problems of maharah qiraah. To produce relevant research, researchers select articles published in the last five years. Data search uses "Publish or Perish" and also "Google Scholar." Data selection is based on keywords that researchers have determined. Data collected through the two software programs will be selected for as many as seven studies. The selection is based on three important aspects, namely topic relevance, research quality, and also the year of publication. The obstacles faced by both teachers and students are equally important to know. Achievement in learning does not only depend on the teacher but also the students. Each component is involved in achieving learning goals. One of the things that teachers can do to improve students' reading skills is to implement peer groups so that they can improve each other's reading. This study is expected to help teachers find the right solution in dealing with the problem of maharah qiraah

Abstract

This article explores the role of aqidah in shaping Muslim character in the digital era through the perspectives of theology and psychology. The study is motivated by a moral crisis amidst rapid technological advancements. Through a literature-based approach, the study highlights aqidah as the foundation of Islamic beliefs that shape behavior that is aligned with the values of the Qur'an and Sunnah, both in relationships with Allah and with fellow humans. Aqidah reinforces values such as honesty, responsibility, and justice, including in the digital space, fraught with challenges like misinformation and hate speech. The study emphasizes the importance of integrating aqidah education with psychology, such as behaviorism theory, through three stages: understanding, loving, and practicing good values. Instilling aqidah from an early age is deemed critical for character development. This article offers an interdisciplinary solution to the moral challenges younger generations face, demonstrating that strong aqidah equips individuals to manage digital behavior, adhere to Islamic values, and become dignified, ethical, and responsible individuals. The study provides practical and theoretical contributions to Islamic character education relevant to the modern era.

Abstract

This study examines how the sound system in the verses of sajdah functions not only as beauty, but as a rhetorical device that reinforces the meaning of submission (sujūd). Departing from the Leech–Short stylistic framework and the concept of foregrounding, this study formulates the idea of "the phonological rhetoric of submission" to formalize the role of assonance, alliteration, rhyme, and rhythm as strategies that evoke emotions and encourage worship practice. The study employs manual IPA-based phonetic transcription and foregrounding analysis across fifteen sajdah verses. This study maps the sound pattern and its rhetorical function, then validates the results through triangulation of meanings to be linguistically and theologically aligned. The findings show a consistent and meaningful sound configuration: back/long vowels (/u/, /ā/) present a soft resonance that emphasizes solemn nuances; a series of emphatic consonants (/r/,/q/,/ṭ/) denote divine imperatives; The parallelism of rhyme and rhythm builds musical coherence and spiritual upliftment. This framework advances Qur’anic stylistics by operationalizing phonology as a rhetorical mechanism rather than an aesthetic byproduct. Theoretically, this study offers a framework of "the phonological rhetoric of submission" in the stylistics of the Qur'an; methodologically, integrating foregrounding analysis with interpretation validation; practically, it opens the direction of the Qur'an's pedagogy based on prosody that associates sound markers with the understanding of sajdah verses.

Abstract

This study examines affective strategies expressed through Arabic-Indonesian code-mixing in Arabic microlearning content on TikTok. As an informal and participatory learning space, TikTok enables not only the delivery of instructional messages but also the creation of emotional, social, and cultural connections. This research aims to identify the types and roles of code mixing in videos from the @hayfaacademy account and analyze how these linguistic choices foster affective engagement between the creator and viewers. Using a qualitative approach with critical discourse analysis, the study explores macro structures of meaning, classifies forms of language mixing, and interprets viewers’ emotional involvement through the affective domain framework. The findings reveal that code mixing supports comprehension while strengthening interpersonal closeness, indicating its dual role as a linguistic and affective strategy within digital learning settings. Theoretically, this study contributes to discussions on affect in Arabic language learning, particularly within social media environments where emotions and meaning-making are intertwined. Practically, the results offer insights for educators and content creators on designing microlearning materials that are empathetic, culturally resonant, and accessible to diverse learners. Future studies may expand the scope by incorporating multimodal analysis and engaging participants from broader sociocultural backgrounds to deepen understanding of linguistic and affective dynamics in Arabic microlearning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze intonation patterns in the pronunciation of imperative sentences in Arabic. Intonation is a pattern of pitch changes produced by the speaker when pronouncing a sentence or its parts, which greatly affects the meaning of the utterance. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods in the form of verbal data analysis. PRAAT application is used for spectral analysis and sound frequency measurement. The results showed that the common intonation patterns in Arabic imperative sentences are /2-3-1/ and /3-2-1/, in accordance with the theory proposed by Al-Aini. Of the six participants, four of them have intonation patterns that match the native speaker's speech patterns, while the other two participants show variations of intonation patterns that do not match. Factors such as mother tongue influence, inappropriate emphasis or nabr, and ignorance of intonation patterns contributed to the difference. The findings are expected to help in Arabic language teaching, particularly in the phonetic aspect of harf halq, as well as contributing to the fields of Arabic linguistics and Arabic language education.

Abstract

This study analyzes the Grade II Arabic textbook for Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) using a praxeological framework, with a particular focus on maharah qirā’ah (reading skills). The research is motivated by limitations in task design and teaching techniques that have not fully supported students’ reading competence. Four tasks related to maharah qirā’ah were examined through a descriptive qualitative approach within the praxeological framework (task, technique, technology, theory). The findings reveal that task design remains heavily dependent on teacher direction, lacks explicit techniques, and has not fostered meaningful reading ability. The main obstacles identified are ontogenic (misalignment with students’ developmental stages) and didactic (ambiguity in implementation techniques), which restrict text comprehension. The study concludes that improvements in reading task design are necessary to ensure clarity, contextual relevance, and alignment with learners’ developmental levels. The novelty of this research lies in applying praxeology as an analytical tool, rarely employed in Arabic textbook studies at the MI level, thereby offering a new perspective for developing more effective teaching materials.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of 21st-century skills in the Grade IX Arabic as a Foreign Language (AFL) textbook published by the Directorate of KSKK Madrasah, Directorate General of Islamic Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia. A qualitative descriptive design with an evaluative orientation was employed, focusing on Chapter 1, which covers texts, grammar, and learning tasks. The analysis was guided by the Partnership for 21st Century Learning (P21) framework, encompassing creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem-solving, communication, and collaboration. Data were interpreted using a Likert scale. The findings indicate that creativity and innovation, as well as critical thinking and problem-solving, fall within the “sufficient” category (65–74), while communication and collaboration are classified as “outstanding” (85–100). These results reveal the textbook’s strength in promoting interaction and teamwork, while also highlighting gaps in fostering higher-order thinking and creativity. The implications underscore the need for a more balanced development of the four skill domains, suggesting that future textbooks should include more varied and challenging activities to promote creative exploration and critical engagement.
