Abstract

Poverty still occurs among fishermen amid the abundance of wealth in Indonesia's marine resources, where the substantial coastal and marine potential has not improved the welfare of fishermen's lives. This study aims to determine the poverty level and analyze the factors that affect fishermen's income on the North Coast of Jakarta that cause poverty. This research was conducted in January – February 2023 through a survey with the selection of respondents using stratified-accidental sampling techniques. Respondents in this study amounted to 100 respondents who were taken proportionally at each level. This study's data processing and analysis techniques used poverty-level and multiple linear regression analyses. Based on the research results, the poverty level of fishermen on the North Coast of Jakarta, when compared to the Central Bureau of Statistics poverty line, 44 fishermen out of 100 have incomes below IDR 17.852,00/capita/day. In comparison, when compared to the World Bank poverty line, there are 71 fishermen out of 100 fishermen living below the World Bank poverty line because the income obtained is less than IDR 32.812,00/capita/day. The factors affecting fishermen's income on the North Coast of Jakarta that cause poverty are the size of the boat. In contrast, factors such as age, education level, and work experience do not affect fishermen's income, so these factors do not significantly affect the poverty of fishermen on the North Coast of Jakarta. Knowing that the variable size of the boat significantly affects fishermen's income on the North Coast of Jakarta, it is expected that the Government can provide facilities and infrastructure assistance in the form of boats with larger boat sizes and simplify the application mechanism in obtaining such assistance. So it is hoped that the help of this boat can increase catches for fishermen and increase the income and welfare of fishermen so that the poverty of fishermen on the North Coast of Jakarta can be reduced.

Abstract

Swampland in Indonesia covers an area of 34.93 million ha spread over various islands such as Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua. One type of swamp land that is often used in agriculture is tidal lands. The problems faced in the development of tidal lands for agriculture include acidic soil pH, high levels of soluble Fe and Al. One of the efforts to overcome the problem of acidic soil pH, high levels of soluble Fe and Al-dd is liming. The finer grain level of lime may increase the effectiveness of liming. The purpose of this study was to quantify the effect of lime grain sizes on changes in pH, dissolved Fe, and exchangeable Al of tidal lands. This study employed a one-factor completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 6 treatments (Control; CaCO3 more than 1.00 mm (> 18 mesh); CaCO3 lime, 0.5-100 mm (18 -35mesh); CaCO3 measuring 0.21-0.50 mm (35-70 mesh); CaCO3 measuring 0.21 mm (<70 mesh); CaCO3 lime measuring 0.15-1.00 mm (18 -100 mesh)). The results showed that the difference in the size of the CaCO3 lime granules had a significant effect on changes in pH, soluble Fe and exchangeable Al. The application of CaCO3 lime granules 0.21 mm (<70 mesh) result in increases in soil pH and suppress soluble Fe and exchangeable Al.

Abstract

Abstract

Although the phenomenon of natural resource curse is suspected to have occurred at the regional level in Indonesia, no measurement of such a phenomenon has been carried out yet. This research is aimed to provide an index of measuring the degree of natural resource curse at provincial level in Indonesia. Two indices, the natural resource dependence index and regional sustainable development index, were used to formulate index of regional resource curse (RRCI) using geometric mean of conditional weighted product method. The results found that provinces with richer in mining tend to have higher resource curse index compared with those with less extractive resources.

Abstract

The study aims to analyses the reasons behind migrations motives among rural household based on household and area origin characteristic. The study used IFLS data of 2007 and 2014 consisting 2,581 household samples spreading in 13 provinces. Binomial and multinomial logit model was used to estimate probability to migrate based on migration motive. We found the contradictory effect of household income on decision to migrate between motives. Income has negative effect in risk coping as migration motives, otherwise have positive effect in investment motive.

Abstract

Creative industry is a strategic sector of national development. Lack of capital is a major obstacle to its development. This study analyzes financial inclusion of micro small creative industries (MSCI) relating to access and loan use. Both logit and Tobit models were employed for 1,367 MSCI from micro small survey data 2014. This study proved that women entrepreneurs who are less educated, limited asset and located in rural area tend to have greater constraints in financial inclusion. This study recommend the importance of financial education for women entrepreneurs in rural areas and expansion of internet uses and conduct digital finance.

Abstract

Sustainability of System of Rice Intensification (SRI) requires rural institution role. The study was conducted in Karawang and uses institutional economics approach and logit regression. The analysis shows potential problems of SRI related with principal-agent/institutional relation and economics transaction costs. Strengthening the activities within farmer groups will reduce economics transaction costs in beginning of application. Farmer will choose "bagi hasil/revenue sharing" as land management cooperation with moderate risks and transaction costs. Monitoring and incentive mechanism will reduce problems of adverse selection and moral hazard. Some factors which determine the sustainability of SRI are production, principal position, off farm work and ex ante transaction costs.
