Abstract

AbstractThis study investigates English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers' instructional practices in developing students' academic character. Self-evaluation questionnaires were distributed to 37 teachers, and 26 were returned. Seven Focus Group Discussion (FGD) participants were selected based on their availability. The study reveals that EFL teachers averagely facilitated students to enhance their academic character and rated developing students' academic character at a critical level. There are five majors handicap for EFL teachers in developing students' academic character.  First, the curriculum does not integrate the academic character with the courses offered. Second, implementing academic character into the curriculum is time-consuming. Besides, teachers assume that their students can automatically apply academic character in their life without it should be integrated into the courses. Lastly, the teaching loads that teachers must do are enormous. Drawing from those problems, several recommendations are proposed: curriculum policy at the university level should be taken, providing a standard syllabus application, providing a simple evaluation system, and freeing EFL teachers from bureaucratic and administrative burdens. Furthermore, the current study has sounded the research result to university academic authority and recommended that the department embed students' academic character in learning and suggested the EFL teachers embed and assess students' academic character development through instructional practices.AbstrakStudi ini menyelidiki praktik instruksional guru English as a Foreign Language (EFL) dalam mengembangkan karakter akademik siswa. How to Cite:  Hadiyanto. Abstract

Education is the initial capital to improve the quality of human resources themselves because with education it is hoped that humans will have high knowledge and skills. However, education cannot be separated from the cost of education itself. The Law (UU) No. 20/2003 concerning "the National Education System" explicitly explained that education financing outside of salaries is 20% of the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) and 20% of the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD), while PP No. 19/2005 concerning concerning "the National Education System" explains that education funding includes operational costs which include salaries. The purpose of this research is to find out how the education financing system exists in Indonesia, especially at the Merangin Integrated Vocational High School (VHS), Jambi Province. Therefore education is a shared responsibility both from the government and from the community itself. Quality education requires a high cost. The results of this study indicate that what is the pattern of education financing in Indonesia, especially at the Integrated Merangin VHS institution.

Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum is a curriculum introduced by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in 2021 as an effort to improve the education system in Indonesia. In the era of globalization, the demands on students' abilities are not only limited to academic abilities, but also life skills abilities, creativity, and innovation. The Merdeka curriculum is designed to meet these demands and help students be prepared for future challenges. Improvement of the national curriculum Previously, the national curriculum in Indonesia has undergone several revisions and adjustments, but there are still shortcomings in terms of life skills development and innovation. Therefore, Curriculum Merdeka was created to enhance the previous national curriculum and provide a more holistic and relevant learning experience for students. This writing methodology uses the literature study methodology. The writing of this article is done by reviewing journals related to curriculum and implementation. The results of the study found that the character development of Curriculum Merdeka students also aims to develop superior student character, such as critical thinking skills, collaboration, and good ethics. That way, students not only become academically smart, but also able to become individuals who are more competitive and character. With this background, the Merdeka Curriculum is expected to provide a more meaningful and relevant learning experience for students in Indonesia.

Education plays an important role in improving the standard of living and the quality of the human economy. This causes many people to think that higher education will provide high economic returns. But in reality, many graduates have completed their education at tertiary institutions, but are still unemployed, so people think that it is useless to go to school or have a higher education. Even though the function of investment in education is not only an economic function. This study uses literature studies by analyzing books, journals, or research related to the problem. From the results of the analysis, education has several aspects of non-economic functions such as religious, social, political and legal, cultural, educational, health, and social life functions. This shows that the return value from investment in education is not only an economic aspect, but includes many aspects. Education helps people to become more socially, politically, and culturally aware and better equipped to understand and apply science and technology to advance human civilization.

Abstract

The management of Hazardous and Toxic Waste (B3) must be carried out by waste producers. PT X as a producer of B3 waste in its production process uses palm oil raw materials and other auxiliary materials. Producers carry out management in accordance with applicable regulations. Waste management can be seen from the perspective of safety, health, productivity and waste minimization. The purpose of this study is to analyze the management of B3 Waste from the perspective of safety, health, productivity and minimization. Data was obtained from surveys and interviews. Analysis method used in statistics. The results of the study showed that 97% strongly agreed with safety, 93% health, 99% productivity and 96% waste initiation.

Abstract

Co-firing is the efforts to reduce the use of fossil fuel (coal) form steam power plant. Adding biomass as a partial fuel to the boiler to reduce coal consumption thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions which can have an impact on the greenhouse effect. This co-firing study implemented 5-20% palm kernel shells. The emission has decreased very significantly in the use of biomass by 20%, Carbon dioxide (CO2) from 7% to 0.9% and carbon monoxide (CO) from 759 Mg/Nm3 to 105 Mg/Nm3. Slagging index during is still within safe limits. Fouling index when coal firing and co-firings 5%, 15% and 20% are in the high category, while co-firing is 10% in the severe category. Base to acid ratio during co-firing test 5%, 10% and 15% in the high/severe category, while co-firing is 20% is still within safe limits. The potential for corrosion due to the presence of chlorine is Cl-induced active oxidation minor. The toxic properties samples obtained from various co-firings are still in safe condition and meet quality standards.
