Abstract

EVA and MVA are used to indicate the creation of value in an investment. Arbitrage Pricing Theory (APT) explained that macroeconomic variables have a systematic effect on return. The aim of this study is to analyze and to measure the effect of financial performance and macroeconomic variables on the stock return of estate plantation sub-sector at Indonesia Stock Exchange. Data are processed by using panel data, analysis which consist of six companies which are listed on the estate plantation sub-sector and using quarterly data from 2007 to 2013. By using the Pooled Least Square (PLS) the result show that the variables of MVA, oil, inflation, interest rate and crisis have significant effects on the stock return of estate plantation sub-sector while the variables of MVA and the world oil price do not have significant effect on the stock return of estate plantation sub-sector.DOI: 10.15408/sjie.v3i2.2058

Abstract

The study about the relationship between climate and economy is essential because it’s understanding is the key to formulate the effective economic policy. El Nino is one of the climate phenomena's that directly impact Indonesia, so it is necessary to analyze its effect on the macroeconomic condition such as inflation. This study aims to analyze the impact of El Nino as an external factor and the impact of another relevant economic factor on the macroeconomic condition such as inflation at the regional level (province) in Indonesia. The method used is a spatial panel method to capture the effect of inter-regional spatial interactions. The results show that El Nino has a positive effect on inflation in the southern Indonesian provinces that are affected by El Nino, but no effect in northern Indonesia. The other significant determinants of regional inflation are minimum wage, local revenue, local government spending, and infrastructure. There is significant spatial dependence on regional inflation in Indonesia, indicating that the inflations of its neighboring provinces influence the inflation of a province.

Abstract

Capital is required in farm to buy input such as fertilizer, pesticide, seed, land rent, labor wage, and to adopt the latest technology. To ease the burden of loan interest and to increase the access of farm to formal credit, the government provides interest subsidy for Food Security and Energy Credit (Kredit Ketahanan Pangan dan Energi, KKP-E). This study was aimed to analyze the impact of accessing KKP-E on paddy farms’ performance. The methods used in this study are descriptive analysis and propensity score matching model. Accessibility of KKP-E in research location was able to increase fertilizer use of 16.98 percent, pesticide use of 40.23 percent, labor outside farm household use of 43.08 percent, production of 58 percent, productivity of 23.64 percent, and farm profit of 84.5 percent. This quite high increase in percentage was due to the reason that farm business scale in this study was categorized as small-scale business.

Abstract

Abstract

Various studies have been conducted to conceive the factors of regional economic growth and its nature in order to obtain the right formulation of regional development policy. The main aim of this research is exploring the spatial influence of economic growth in East Java Province. The result of Lagrange Multiplier test shows that the regencies/cities economic growth affects each other in the long term. Parameters estimation on spatial lag model shows that the spatial influence of economic growth inter regencies/cities is negative. These indicate that development activities in East Java Province have not been get synergistic yet.

Abstract. The aim of this research is to analyse the factors which influence the pricevolatility of tin commodity. Monthly basis data were collected from 1990 to 2015. Weemployed ARCH-GARCH models and verified by interview with tin expert. Theresults showed that model EGARCH (1,1,1) is the best model to explain the pricevolatility of tin commodity. Changing factors from crude oil price, copper price, leadprice and T-Bill 3M were significantly affecting volatility in tin price. Experts believethe high volatility from 2001 to 2015 led to the difficulties in developing ofdownstream tin industry in Indonesia.Keyword: ARCH-GARCH, Price, Tin, VolatilityAbstract.

Abstract

Rice self-sufficiency is an important programme in Indonesia. The programme has four major targets, i.e. increasing production, stabilizing prices and reserve stocks, and minimizing import. For that purpose, the government gave a mandate to a parastatal, namely National Logistic Agency (Bulog) in implementing the rice policies. Some studies found that involvement of such a parastatal could lead to government failure in budget allocation. The study aimed to estimate social cost of rice self-sufficiency programme based on the implementation of rice instrument policies by Bulog. The study used the national annual data of 2002–2014 period. The method used was the political preference function model to estimate economic rent and dead-weight loss using rice price elasticity of demand and supply. The result showed that in terms of percentage of food security budget, the average of economic rent reached IDR 6.37 trillion per annum (18.54%), while the average of dead-weight loss amounted at IDR 0.90 trillion per annum (2.34%). It proved that rice self-sufficiency programme along with the involvement of Bulog was economically inefficient. The government should provide better agricultural infrastructure, review governmental procurement prices, and stop rice import policy to remedy market failure.

Abstract

There has been a general concern that after the implementation of the regionalautonomy policy, the labor market performance tenfing to decline. This paper aims atanalysing various factors influencing the labour market, by making use of aneconometric model of simultaneous equation system employing a set of pooled or paneldata (combination of yearly time series and 30 subdistricts cross section in BogorRegency). The results showed that estimated parameters accord well with the theory. The estimated model is fairly good to explain the variation of labor market of BogorRegency, prior to as well as during the ongoing regional autonomy period. Among theresults, it is found that, in agricultural and service sectors, employment absorption foreducated and uneducated labours is higher during the autonomy than before theautonomy. The opposite happens in the industrial sector. In all sectors, investmentplays an important role in determining employment absorption. Together with labourproductivity, employment absorption positively affects gross domestic regionalproduct, which in turns influences a number of labour market variables.

Abstract

ABSTRACT It is a commonly practiced that agricultural economists frame their analyses within the single commodity (multi-input single-output) framework. The problem with this framework is that this seems to be inappropriate because most agricultural production systems are characterized by multi-product farms. Motivated by this problem, this paper is aimed at providing a brief explanation on the multi-input multi-output (MI-MO) framework and applying the framework on the Indonesian food crops subsector. Based on this framework, an econometric model is specified and then estimated using the restricted seemingly unrelated regression method. Estimated cross-price elasticities obtained from the model suggest the significance of cross-effects of input or output prices on input demand or output supply, justifying the MI-MO nature of the crops. The most notable policy implication from this study is that a price policy on either outputs or inputs may not be effective. If, however, such a policy were politically desirable, it should be applied on inputs rather than on outputs because the magnitudes of the elasticities are in absolute term higher in input demands than in output supplies. Keywords: Multi-Input Multi-Output, Food Crops, Seemingly Unrelated Regression, Elasticities.
