Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the diameter increment and height increment, growth and development of Samama Plants (Anthocephalus marcophyllus) as well as environmental factors that influence the growth of Samama Plants (Anthocepalus marcophyllus). This research was carried out in Block III of Samama Plants (Anthocephalus marcophyllus) in the Seed Source Demonstration Plot in Hatusua Village, Kairatu District, West Seram Regency. Initial data was taken in January 2022 and continued with final data collection in July 2022. This research uses a quantitative analysis method by calculating the Average Annual Increment (MAI), current annual increment (CAI) and analysis simple regression. The results of further research show that the growth of Samama (Anthocephalus marcophyllus) plants in the seed source demonstration plot of Hatusua village, West Seram Regency with a Current Annual Rate (CAI) diameter in 2022 is 1.2 (cm/tnm/yr) and an average annual increase (MAI) diameter is 3.05 (cm/tnm/yr), current annual increment (CAI) is high, namely 1.77 (m/tnm/yr) and average annual increment (MAI) is high, namely 2.93 (m /tnm/yr). The development of the Samama plant in measurements in 2022, the walnut plant has developed. From the results of research in 2022, the growth of the Samama plant is at the pole and tree level. There are 8 trees on the pole with diameters ranging from 14.5 – 20.

Abstract

The village of Tial, located in the Salahutu Subdistrict, has a mangrove forest that plays an important role in protecting the coast from erosion. However, many people are unaware of the species of mangroves and the extent of the damage occurring. This study aims to determine the structure of the mangrove forest community, the level of damage, and the factors causing the damage. The methods used were quantitative descriptive methods in the form of surveys and observations, with the sampling technique being the Census method. The main data variables needed include the measurement of diversity index parameters and important value index (IVI) parameters, which include: density, relative density, frequency, relative frequency, dominance, and relative dominance. The results of this study indicate that the community types found on the coast of Tial Village are Sonneratia alba, Aegiceras floridum, Rhizophora mucronata, and Lumnitzera racemosa. The level of damage to the mangrove forest falls into the category of damaged (sparse), with a density level of <1000 trees/ha, specifically seedlings at 112/ha, saplings at 455/ha, and trees at 178/ha, and it has a diversity index H'<1, specifically seedlings at 0.63, saplings at 0.74, and trees at 1.16. The factors causing the damage to the mangrove forest on the coast of Tial Village include a lack of nutrient elements, lichen fungi, waste, abrasion and light intensity.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the structure and composition of the natural forest vegetation of Negeri Amahusu, Nusaniwe District, Ambon City. The sampling method used in this study is a combination of the grid line method and the path method to study the composition and structure of vegetation at the research location. In this study, 5 (five) observation paths were made, each path consisting of 5 plots with a size of 20 x 20 m for the tree level so that the observation path measures 20 x 100 m. While the sample plots for the pole level were made 10 x 10 m, the sapling level 5 x 5 m, and the seedling level 2 x 2 m. The results of the study showed that the Amahusu natural forest consists of 4 Stratifications (Strata A, B, D, and E) dominated by stratum B, where the height of stratum A trees ranges from 20-25 m while stratum B ranges from 8-19 m with dominant species including: Durian (Durio zibethinus), Canary (Canarium commune), and Linggua (Pterocarpus indicus). The composition of Amahusu forest species at the seedling level consists of 18 species, 20 species of saplings, 15 species of poles and 15 species of trees. The species diversity index is included in the medium category with an H' value at the seedling level of 1.148, saplings 1.174, poles 1.018 and trees 1.072.

Abstract

This research was conducted in Kobi Sadar Village, North Seram Timur Kobi District in May 2024. With the aim of 1). To find out the types of mangroves in the mangrove forest in Kobi Sadar Village, North Seram Timur Kobi District 2). To find out the factors where mangroves grow in Kobi Sadar Village, North Seram Timur Kobi District. Data analysis and the approach used for measurements and observations in this study were descriptive qualitative methods and direct on-site surveys. Information collection regarding vegetation is carried out through vertical channels. The process of identifying specimens to find out the species name is carried out by comparing the morphological characteristics of the various types of mangroves found and referring to the guidebook for mangrove identification in Indonesia (MIC and JICA). Vegetation analysis is a step to explore the structure and composition of plants based on the shape and character of the plant collection. The various elements that make up vegetation structure include growth type, level, and canopy closure.

Abstract

This study evaluates the success and failure of mangrove rehabilitation in Inner Ambon Bay, focusing on environmental factors, planting techniques, and habitat conditions. The research was conducted over 12 months, from May 2022 to April 2023, using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods. Primary data were collected through field observations and interviews, while secondary data from relevant institutions were analyzed using Survival Rate and Growth Rate formulas. Out of 1,260 planted mangrove seedlings, only 29 survived, yielding a success rate of 2.3%. Failure factors include inadequate substrate, narrow intertidal zones due to reclamation, and wave disturbances. Proposed solutions include substrate modification, species zoning adjustments, and mechanical protection for seedlings. These findings highlight the importance of ecologically integrated approaches in mangrove rehabilitation programs to ensure long-term success.

Abstract

Understory biomass plays an important role in maintaining forest ecosystem balance and the carbon cycle. This study aims to measure and compare understory biomass across various natural forest types in Hatusua Village, Maluku, namely Coastal Forest, Mangrove Forest, Dominant Aren Forest, and Lowland Forest. The method used includes systematic sampling with 2x2 meter plots, considering dense, moderate, and sparse conditions, where all understory plants were collected, weighed, and dried to estimate dry biomass. The results showed that the highest biomass was found in the Coastal Forest (2,716.14 kg/ha), followed by the Mangrove Forest (2,545.87 kg/ha), the Lowland Forest (1,841.72 kg/ha), and the lowest in the Dominant Aren Forest (1,629.33 kg/ha). This biomass variation is influenced by light intensity, soil conditions, and vegetation structure. Carbon content calculations based on biomass indicate that the Coastal Forest has the highest carbon storage, followed by the Mangrove Forest, Lowland Forest, and Dominant Aren Forest. This study confirms that understory biomass is a vital component of forest ecosystems, requiring attention in conservation efforts and climate change mitigation.

Abstract

Litter biomass is an essential component of forest ecosystems, playing a role in nutrient cycling, soil stability, and carbon storage. This study aims to measure and compare litter biomass across various types of natural forests in Hatusua Village, namely Coastal Forest, Mangrove Forest, Dominant Aren Forest, and Lowland Forest. The method used involved collecting litter samples from 2 × 2 meter plots, followed by drying and weighing to estimate dry biomass. The results showed that the highest litter biomass was found in Dominant Aren Forest (7,400.56 kg/ha), followed by Coastal Forest (5,773.71 kg/ha), Lowland Forest (1,798.55 kg/ha), and the lowest in Mangrove Forest (1,547.36 kg/ha). Differences in litter biomass among forest types were influenced by vegetation type, litter density, decomposition rates, and environmental conditions. This information is crucial for sustainable forest management and climate change mitigation through carbon storage in forest litter.
