Abstract

Cross- cultural counseling is done in different cultures , given to minority groups that the counseling process is a cultural encounter between counselor and client it serves. Problematic behavior will be different in different cultures , as well as the adjustment. So that effective counseling process, counselors are required to have cultural sensitivity and break away from cultural biases, understand and can appreciate and have skills that are culturally responsive. Communication activities between nations is a consumption activity that occurs between different clients mores, race, language, religion, level of education, social status or even gender. Thus intercultural communication should be by the diplomacy of foreign astudents, a teacher at an international school , social workers and others.To be able to understand more , intercultural communication as well as some that affect communication (1) Comunication approach, (2) Communication barriers between cultures, (3) How can these barriers interfere with communication between cultures. At the time of counseling , the counselor does not deal with the client's culture but also cultural counselor with individual clients. This view is dangerous for the counseling process, as it would appear culturally insensitive counselor, unsympathetic and very likely impose its own cultural values to the clients it serves.

Abstract

The research was backgrounded by still low level of the learning motivation of students. The self-concept and parental support suspectted to affect the learning motivation of students. This research aims to describe : (1) the self-concepts, (2) parental support, (3) learning motivation of students, (4) the contribution of the self-concept toward the learning motivation of students, (5) the parental support contributions toward the learning motivation of students, and (6) the contribution of self-concept and parental support together against to the learning motivation of students. This study used a descriptive correlational quantitative method. The population of this research was students of SMA Negeri 8 Padang in class XI and XII which totaled 464 people. The number of samples are 215 people, selected by proportional stratified random sampling technique. The instrument used is the scale. Results validity and reliability of the instrument self-concept, parental support, and learning motivation of student stated that valid and reliable research instruments. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, simple regression, and multiple regression. The findings showed that: (1) the average description of self-concepts are in positive category, (2) an average description of parental support are in high category, (3) description of the learning motivation of students are in high category, (4) there is contribution of self-concept toward the learning motivation of students by 24.2%, (5) there is contribution of parental support toward the learning motivation of students by 18.8%, and (6) there are contributions of self-concept and parental support together toward the learning motivation of students amounted to 30.7%. Implications of the research results can be used as input to create a program of guidance and counseling services.

Abstract

Anxiety is unplesant feelings or tension against something that has not yet happened, and it could raise a fear of the impact that might grow. REBT regards an anxiety as an irrational thought that lead an individual to behave ineffectively, such as avoiding particular situation. Public speaking anxiety is a fear that is felt when speaking in front of many people. This fear could generate a variety of symptoms, such as sweating and even forget the words to be delivered. To avoid this condition, the individual choose to remain silent. Group guidance service is one of guidance an counseling serviced aimed at training members of the group to speak in front of public and be able to share ideas with others. The research was designed for revealing: the average score of the students’ anxiety before and after group guidance service assisted with REBT approach was applied by using ABCDE model and homework assigment technique, and the effectiveness of group guidance service assisted with REBT approach to reduce the student’ anxiety. This research applied quantitative method. This was a pre-experimental research which used the one group pretest and posttest design. The subject was chosen by using purposive sampling method. The subject of the research was seven students having high anxiety, medium anxiety and low anxiety. This research was conducted at IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang. The data gathered were analyzed by using statistic non-parametrik technique assisted with Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and SPSS version 20.00. The result of the research showed that there was a difference between the average score of the students’ anxiety before and after the treatment given in which their pretest score was 136,1 and their posttest score was 111,5. Futhermore, the result of hypothesis test indicated that the score of Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) was 0,005 which was below alpha 0,05 (0,005<0,05). Hence, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. Based on these result, it was concluded that the use of group guidance service assisted with REBT approach which was applied by using ABCDE model and homework assigment technique was effective to overcome the students’ anxiety to speak in front of people (in the class).

Abstract

Planning career direction is a dynamic process and systematically assist students in determining the path of further education or work aspired. A phenomenon that occurs student is not realistic in choosing further education, are not ready to choose further education, and confused in choosing colleges and majors who wish to enter. One of the services that can be used to help students planning a career direction is a group counseling services. This study aims to reveal (1) planning career direction experimental group before and after being given treatment, (2) planning career direction control group pre-test and post-test without being offered treatment (3) planning towards student careers experimental and control groups in post -test.The method used in this research is a quasi-experimental research design nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were students of class XI SMA Development Laboratory State University of Padang and SMA Pertiwi 1 Padang. Sampling by random sampling technique. The research sample numbering 20 students. The instrument used is a Likert scale model. Data were analyzed using non-parametric statistics using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and Kolmogorov-Smirnov 2 Independent Samples with SPSS version 20.00.The findings of this s research in general that guidance services group influence on the planning direction student careers, whereas in particular: (1) there are significant differences planning career direction before and after following guidance services group, (2) there are no significant differences planning career direction the control group pre-test and post-test without a given treatment, and (3) there is a significant difference toward career planning students experimental and control groups in post-test. Based on the above findings, it can be concluded that students planning a career direction can be enhanced with group counseling services.

Abstract

Career aspiration is an important for students, because needs to be done first when choosing one career is to have career aspiration. The fact in the field signified that the students do not have a career goal in the future. This is an indication that the students career aspiration are in the low category. The aim of this research was to: (1) describe students career aspiration is sighted of sex, majors, and parents educational level, (2) examined differences in students career aspiration of male and female, (3) examined differences in career aspiration of students majoring in science and social studies, (4) examined differences in students career aspiration is sighted of parents educational level, and (5) examined differences in students career aspiration is sighted of interaction of sex, majors, and parents educational level. The research methods applied in this research was ex post facto with factorial design 2 x 3 x 2. The population this research was consisted of 837 students in SMAN 7 Padang. The number of samples as much as 270 students were selected by propotional random sampling technique. The instrument of the research was career aspiration scale with reliability 0.885. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analysis of variance. The result of the research indicated that: (1) In general, career aspiration of students  is sighted of sex, majors, and parents educational level were in high category, (2) there is no significant differences between career aspiration of male and female students, (3) there is no significant difference between career aspiration of students majoring in science and social studies, (4) there was a significant difference between career aspiration of students having parents educational level of high, medium, and low, (5) there is no significant differences in students career aspiration is sighted of interaction of sex, majors, and parents educational level.
