Abstract

. Abstract

Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) are essential in modern industrial automation and Industry 4.0 environments. However, in many vocational institutions and industrial training centers, PLC access is limited primarily to maintenance departments due to high hardware costs, proprietary software licensing, and restricted system flexibility. This limitation reduces opportunities for non-maintenance staff, students, and interdisciplinary engineering practitioners to develop practical automation competencies. To address this gap, a community service program was conducted at Akademi Komunitas Toyota Indonesia, Karawang, utilizing OpenPLC—an open-source, IEC 61131-3–compliant PLC platform—as a low-cost and flexible training solution. The program involved structured workshops, hands-on practical sessions, and project-based learning activities using affordable hardware such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi. Participants were trained to design, simulate, and implement basic control systems, as well as integrate PLC logic with IoT and simple SCADA environments. The results demonstrate that OpenPLC effectively improves participants’ understanding of PLC programming concepts and enhances their practical skills in automation system development. The open-source nature of the platform reduces financial barriers while enabling broader experimentation beyond maintenance-oriented applications. This initiative shows that OpenPLC can serve as an accessible and sustainable training tool to expand industrial automation competencies across non-maintenance domains.

Abstract

This article examines how political mediatization operates at the local level through environmental civil society activism in post-authoritarian Indonesia. Focusing on the West Sumatra chapter of the Indonesia Forum for Environment (WALHI) as a critical case, the study argues that media logic is not merely imposed by political elites or mainstream media, but is strategically appropriated by local civil society organizations to contest oligarchic power, shape public agendas, and sustain democratic engagement at the subnational level. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with environmental activists and youth organizers, and an analysis of organizational documents, digital platforms, and media coverage. The findings show that WALHI West Sumatra integrates digital media into its core advocacy practices, allowing localized environmental and agrarian conflicts to gain public visibility and political resonance. Political mediatization at the local level takes a hybrid form, combining offline grassroots mobilization and legal advocacy with online campaigning, narrative framing, and networked alliance-building. Youth collaboration emerges as a key mediating mechanism that expands advocacy frames and amplifies issue visibility across digital public spheres. Despite structural constraints such as limited resources and oligarchic governance, mediatized activism remains an important source of strategic agency. This study contributes to political mediatization scholarship by situating it within the context of local environmental activism in post-authoritarian Indonesia.

Abstract

Drought is a condition in which rainfall falls below normal for a certain period and becomes a major threat to the sustainability of peatlands, as it can increase the risk of forest fires. This study analyzes the drought index in the peatlands of Siak Regency using the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) method based on CHIRPS satellite data on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, and evaluates the relationship between SPI values and Groundwater Table Depth (TMAT). The CHIRPS rainfall dataset used to calculate SPI spans the period from 1993 to 2024. SPI values were then compared with groundwater table depth at three locations from 2019 to 2024 to assess the relationship between the two variables. The results indicate spatial and temporal connections within the study area, with several drought periods occurring simultaneously. The most significant drought event occurred in 2019, with peak intensity in August, affecting the entire study region. Regression analysis between SPI and groundwater table depth revealed a positive relationship, indicating that when rainfall decreases or SPI values are negative, the groundwater table tends to decline. However, the correlation was relatively weak, likely influenced by other factors such as peat soil characteristics, evapotranspiration, drainage, human activities, and others. Nevertheless, the relationship between these two variables can serve as a preliminary step in utilizing SPI as an importan

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between self-disclosure and interpersonal communication among first-year students at the Faculty of Psychology and Health, Universitas Negeri Padang. A quantitative approach with a correlational method was employed. The sample consisted of 505 students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using two psychological scales: the self-disclosure scale developed by Setiawan (2022), based on Leung's (2002) dimensions, and the interpersonal communication scale developed by Siregar (2019), referring to DeVito’s (2011) components. The self-disclosure scale comprised 32 items, while the interpersonal communication scale consisted of 38 items. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation with the assistance of JASP software. The results revealed a positive and significant relationship between self-disclosure and interpersonal communication. This indicates that the higher the level of students’ self-disclosure, the better their interpersonal communication skills. Conversely, low self-disclosure is associated with weaker communication abilities. These findings affirm that self-disclosure is a key factor in fostering effective communication, particularly during the initial stages of campus life adaptation.
