Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ perceptions of scientific writing learning within an advanced and innovative learning framework. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach using a Likert-scale questionnaire completed by 202 students. The data were analyzed descriptively to obtain the mean, standard deviation, and percentage distribution across five main aspects: participation and interaction, clarity of materials and use of examples, feedback and collaborative guidance, development of academic skills, and time management and variation in innovative learning methods. The results indicate that all aspects achieved mean scores above 3.00 (on a 1–4 scale), which are categorized as high. The highest scores were obtained for teaching method variation (3.14) and material implementation support (3.14), while the lowest score was found in learning time allocation (3.06). Although the majority of students selected the “Agree” category, the proportion of “Strongly Agree” responses remained relatively low (13–17%), suggesting the need for improvement in time allocation, feedback quality, and diversity of examples provided. This study underscores the importance of interactive learning design, consistent use of formative feedback, and the implementation of innovative learning methods to enhance the quality of students’ learning experiences. These findings can serve as a reference for teachers and schools in designing more effective and sustainable scientific writing instruction strategies.

Abstract

Indoor air quality is a crucial factor influencing occupants’ health and comfort. Various issues, including dust particles, excessive humidity, hazardous gases, and inadequate lighting conditions, can significantly reduce indoor air quality. However, most existing air filter systems still lack real-time monitoring and remote control capabilities. Therefore, this study aims to develop a microcontroller-based air filter system using ESP32 integrated with an Android application via Wi-Fi connectivity. The proposed system utilizes a DHT22 sensor to measure temperature and humidity, a GP2Y1010AU0F sensor to detect dust particles, an MQ-135 sensor to detect harmful gases and unpleasant odors, and a BH1750 sensor to measure light intensity. All sensor data are processed by the ESP32 microcontroller and displayed through an Android application developed using Android Studio, allowing users to monitor indoor air quality conditions in real time. System testing was conducted under several indoor air quality scenarios, including variations in humidity and dust concentration levels. The results demonstrate that the system operates accurately, responsively, and in real time in monitoring indoor air quality. Furthermore, the system can be remotely controlled through the Android application. This system is expected to improve indoor air quality while providing positive impacts on environmental health and comfort.

Abstract

This study aims to develop LINOSIAPPS teaching materials to enhance information literacy of elementary school students based on Pantura local wisdom. The method used is Research and Development with the ADDIE model, including analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects were fourth-grade students of SD 1 Kesambi as the experiment and SD 2 Kesambi as the control, each with 22 students. The research instruments included expert validated questionnaires, teacher and student practicality questionnaires, and information literacy tests. The validation results showed that LINOSIAPPS was a very valid media (the average percentage of media expert validity was 90% and material expert 86.6%). The practicality test showed 96.5% student responses and 93.3% teacher responses, a very practical category. The effectiveness test using an independent t-test showed a significant difference (Sig. 0.000 <0.05) between the experimental and control groups, so LINOSIAPPS was effective in improving students' information literacy skills. The advantage of this media lies in the integration of e-module materials, interactive assessments, learning videos, and educational games that highlight the local wisdom of the Pantura area of Kudus, Pati, and Rembang. LINOSIAPPS supports contextual, engaging, and responsive Indonesian language learning to meet students' needs, while fostering local cultural awareness. Thus, LINOSIAPPS has proven valid, practical, and effective as an innovative teaching materials for strengthening information literacy in elementary school students.

Abstract

Increased focus on academic writing within higher education has not been matched by appropriate models of instruction that can bring about the collaborative learning and social scaffolding necessary for optimal student writing performance. The objectives of this study are (1) to analyse students’ needs and characteristics, (2) to develop a Project Based Learning of peer tutoring model as integrated social scaffolding in the academic writing instruction, and (3) to see the validity, practicality, and effectivity of the developed model. This study used a Research and Development (R&D) strategy in the 4D model (define, design, develop, and disseminate). One hundred twenty undergraduates participated in the study, which was conducted at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta and UINSurakata in their academic writing courses. MethodsThe study used mixed methods to analyze data collected from needs analysis surveys, expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires, pre- and post-tests, interviews, and documentation. Results show that developed model has a high rate of validity (CVI = 0.94) & high rate of practicality (89.1%). Additionally, students improved significantly in their academic writing abilities from pretest (M = 54.62) to posttest (M = 76.14) over the course of several weeks, creating a gain of 21.52 (p <. 001; Cohen’s d = 1.98). This study shows that the improvement of students in academic writing was shown from the process and product quality with peer tutoring as social scaffolding implemented in PjBL model.

Abstract

Heavy metal contamination, particularly by copper (Cu) and lead (Pb), in aquatic ecosystems poses a significant threat to ecological balance, aquatic organisms, microbial diversity and human health. The Kali Baru Estuary in Semarang, Indonesia, has been reported as a heavily polluted area with Cu and Pb concentrations far exceeding environmental safety thresholds, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable remediation strategies. This study aimed to isolate and characterise bacterial strains resistant to Cu and Pb from sediment samples collected from the Kali Baru Estuary in Semarang as potential bioremediation agents. Bacterial isolation was performed using a serial dilution technique up to 10?², in triplicate, spread onto Marine Agar medium, and incubated at 37°C for 24 h. The obtained isolates were purified and characterised based on their macroscopic and microscopic morphological features. Resistance profiling of the isolates was assessed by exposing them to Cu and Pb at concentrations of 100, 200, and 300 mg/L. A total of 32 bacterial isolates were successfully obtained. Among these, two isolates demonstrated resistance to Cu, and 14 isolates exhibited resistance to Pb at the highest concentration tested (300 mg/L). These metal-resistant bacterial isolates exhibit substantial promise for bioremediation applications aimed at remediating Cu and Pb-contaminated aquatic environments.

Abstract

The flood disaster that hit West Sumatra in November-December 2025 not only caused physical damage, but also psychological impacts in the form of trauma in children. Symptoms such as anxiety, sleep disorders, difficulty concentrating, and withdrawal from the social environment. Conventional trauma healing approaches often lack creative elements that are appropriate to the world of children. This study aims to design and test the effectiveness of geometric puzzle games as a trauma healing medium that integrates the principles of Visual Communication Design for child flood victims. Using a qualitative approach with an applied experimental method, this study involved 15 elementary school-aged children divided into three groups. Each group competed to arrange geometric puzzles into three meaningful shapes: butterflies, ships and rockets, with the mechanism of one representative looking at the target shape for 10 seconds and then communicating it to the team. Data were collected through participant observation, interviews, focus group discussions, visual documentation, and reflective journals, then analyzed using thematic analysis. The results of the study showed three main findings: (1) the process of visual creation through arranging puzzles became an effective means of non-verbal emotional expression; (2) successful puzzle completion rebuilds self-efficacy and self-confidence; (3) visual communication mechanisms within groups strengthen social cohesion and peer support post-disaster. This research provides theoretical benefits for the development of design science in the context of psychosocial interventions, as well as practical benefits for trauma healing practitioners and designers of visual design-based therapeutic media for children.
