Abstract

This research aimed to find out the correlation between self- directed learning and reading comprehension of the fifth- semester students of the English department of FKIP Universitas Riau. The researchers used a descriptive quantitative method as the data approach. The samples of this research were 74 students from the fifth-semester students of the English department of FKIP Universitas Riau. The research instruments are a questionnaire and a test. The questionnaire is for the data on self-directed learning while the test is for the data on reading comprehension. To analyze the data, the researchers employed SPSS Statistics 25. The data analysis showed that the mean score of the student's self-directed learning is 215.18, classified as moderate level, while the mean score of the student's reading comprehension is 56.35, categorized as moderate level. Moreover, the research finding showed the correlation coefficient of the two variables is 0.694, indicating a positive and moderate correlation. Also, the determinant coefficient is 0.48 which implies self-directedlearning has a 48% influence on the students’ reading comprehension, leaving the other 52% to other factors. After finding that there is a moderate relationship between self- directed learning and reading comprehension, it is suggested that students should apply self-directed learning activities well, for it can result in better reading comprehension. This is mainly because self-directed learning gives them the freedom to choose their own reading materials and learning objectives.

Abstract

It cannot be denied that the performance of teachers will greatly influence the success of schools in achieving its goals. This descriptive research is intended to discuss: (1) the principals' view on the performance of public elementary school teachers in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia; (2) principals' expectations for the teachers' performance in the future; and (3) challenges faced by principals to improve teachers' performance in the future. This descriptive quantitative research was carried out at public elementary schools in Pekanbaru in May 2019 to October 2019. By using a proportional random sampling technique, 66 of 191 elementary school principals spread across 12 districts in Pekanbaru were selected as the sample. The questionnaire addressed to the principal was used as an instrument which was then analyzed through descriptive statistical analysis. In the end, it can be concluded that the best performance of teachers is in implementing the learning process. However, their performance in carrying out additional tasks in schools was rated by principals as the lowest average of all categories. The principals' expectations of the teachers' performance in the future are related to improving teacher competencies as well as improving the ability to utilize technology and equipment available at school. While the challenges faced, however, are related to the lack of willingness of teachers to continue their education and limited funds to participate in various training.

Abstract

The Indonesian Education and Culture Ministry's autonomous curriculum teaching modules were used to construct social studies teaching modules. Because the Ministry only provides general examples, richer modules tailored to schools and students were developed. Class VII modules were produced using ADDIE model RD. The first step was a needs and empirical study of SMP Pekanbaru social studies teaching modules involving student and teacher observations and interviews. The modules were designed and developed using Canva Education and e-modules. Six experts validated the module's practicality. Other Pekanbaru junior high social studies teachers discussed the module. Qualitative analysis of validation questionnaire data. After the material was approved, SMP Pekanbaru social studies educators adopted it. Twenty students were given a learning motivation questionnaire to test the curriculum. Teachers who implemented the module received practical surveys and module usefulness at the end of the activity. Motivational and practical surveys were quantitatively analysed, and the Wilcoxon difference test was used to compare learning motivation before and after the module. The module enhanced student learning motivation; 100% of students were high and sufficient after using it, up from 90% before. The teachers also liked the module and thought it was practical and valuable.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the variables (1) leadership knowledge on the effectiveness of the principal's work, (2) managerial competence on the effectiveness of the principal's work, (3) leadership knowledge and managerial competence together on the effectiveness of the principal's work. Research respondents were principals of public elementary schools in Rokan Hilir Regency, totaling 305 people with a sample of 173. Data was collected through questionnaires as a research instrument. The data analysis used is descriptive analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The instrument reliability coefficient was calculated using the Cronbach alpha formula. The results showed that there was a positive and significant influence of leadership knowledge on the work effectiveness of the principal of 0.707, and there was a positive and significant influence of managerial competence on the work effectiveness of the principal of 0.603. Meanwhile, together there is an effect of leadership knowledge and managerial competence on the effectiveness of the principal's work of 0.553

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of variables (1) workload on teacher work stress levels, (2) dual role conflict on teacher work stress levels, (3) workload and dual role conflict together on teacher work stress levels. The research respondents were principals of public elementary schools in Tanjung Medan District, Rokan Hilir Regency, totaling 148 people with a sample of 108. The data was collected through the distribution of questionnaires as research instruments. The data analysis used is descriptive analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The instrument reliability coefficient was calculated using the Cronbach alpha formula. The results showed that there was a positive and significant effect of workload on the teacher's work stress level of 0.517, there was a positive and significant influence of dual role conflict on the teacher's work stress level of 0.458. Meanwhile, together there is an effect of workload and dual role conflict on the teacher's work stress level of 0.543

Abstract

Kurangnya layanan cyber counseling dari Laboratorium bimbingan dan konseling yang merupakan sebuah fasilitas bagi mahasiswa bimbingan dan konseling dalam menambah pengetahuan dan pengalaman untuk melakukan layanan cyber counseling. Salah satu contoh pengembangan layanan cyber counseling melalui sosial media. Berdasarkan dari permasalahan tersebut, maka dirumuskan yaitu mendeskripsikan Pengembangan media sosial instagram laboratorium bimbingan dan konseling dalam mengoptimalkan layanan cyber counseling. Penelitian yang dilakukan menggunakan metode Research and Development (RD) dan model Borg and Gall.  Hasil dari media sosial instagram yang dikembangkan memiliki persentase skor ahli materi sebesar 75%, skor ahli bahasa 85%, sedangkan persentase skor ahli media sebesar 92%. Berdasarkan persentase tersebut, media sosial instagram Labor BK termasuk kategori layak untuk dalam mengoptimalkan layanan cyber counseling.

Abstract

Learning outcomes are the achievements obtained by students after participating in educational activities in the form of the results of the assessment of the final semester exam in economics. There are several factors that can have an impact on student learning outcomes both from within and from outside, for example, the way of learning, the desire to learn, efforts to be independent and inspired, teacher teaching skills, facilities, social and cognitive environment, finance and community care. Thus, students must have good learning outcomes to realize behavioral changes to become a good person. The target of the exploration is to analyze the effect of teaching competence and learning style on student learning outcomes. The exploration involved Class XII social studies of SMA Negeri 2 Tapung Hilir. Random sampling method. The sample quantity was 92 students. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The data analysis method is multiple linear regression using SPSS. The results showed that teaching competence and teaching style have an impact on student learning outcomes. Teachers must have good teaching competencies such as understanding the condition and character of students, learning planning skills, skills in delivering learning using good methods, skills in assessing students' learning students' work and skills to develop students' potential. Students also need to understand and know their learning styles so that they can adapt their learning styles to the teaching methods offered by educators. This has an impact on children's achievement of better learning outcomes at school.

Abstract

The article titled “Tuntaskan hambatan belajar dengan Pemberian Asesmen DCM di SMA NEGERI 2 TUALANG” discusses effective strategies for addressing learning obstacles in that school. The main focus of this article is on the implementation of the DCM as a tool to understand, identify, and address students’ learning difficulties at SMA NEGERI 2 TUALANG. The research demonstrates that using DCM can enhance students’ motivation toward the material and reduce learning challenges. The research methodology involves data collection through observation, interviews, and analysis of test results before and after DCM implementation. The findings indicate that students who receive DCM assessments show significant improvement when provided with group counseling services. The article provides practical recommendations for teachers and schools to utilize DCM assessments as a tool to enhance learning quality and reduce learning barriers within the school context.

Abstract

Abstract: Reading comprehension is a vital component of the learning process,facilitating the acquisition of essential knowledge and information. This study investigates the proficiency of third-year English language education students in understanding expository reading texts. The research cohort comprises 90 students, and the methodology involves the use of exposition texts, focusing on five key aspects: finding the main idea, locating references, understanding vocabulary, making inferences, and detailing information. A test comprising 50 items serves as the instrument for assessment. Each item encompasses the aforementionedaspects, with 10 questions allocated for each. The findings indicate that third-year English language education students exhibit an average comprehension level of English exposition texts, with an overall percentage score of 65.46. Notably, the aspect of Determining the Main Idea yielded the lowest results, while the Locating Reference aspect garnered the highest scores. These findings provide valuable insights for educators to tailor their teaching approaches and enhance students' reading comprehension skills, particularly in the identification of main ideas. By addressing these areas of improvement, teachers can optimize learning experiences and foster greater proficiency in reading comprehension among students.Keywords: Investigating, Comprehending Ability, Exposition Texts

Abstract

Pendidikan dapat menciptakan pengetahuan yang kreatif dan inovatif karena selalu diperbarui. Pendidikan juga bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan, membangun karakter, mencerdaskan kehidupan masyarakat, serta meningkatkan kualitas hidup dan martabat manusia di Indonesia. Salah satu cara untuk menyempurnakan konsep sistem pendidikan nasional adalah melalui pendekatan progresif. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memgkaji literatur review dari beberapa temuan penelitian yang telah dipublikasikan pada sebuah jurnal yang terkait dengan pandangan filsafat progresivisme John Dewey yang dilakukan pada pembelajaran kurikulum merdeka belajar kampus merdeka. Berdasarkan telaah literatur, ditemukan bahwa peranan belajar merdeka di perguruan tinggi sangatlah penting dalam pengembangan masyarakat pendidikan Indonesia. Hal ini disebabkan oleh merdeka belajar kampus merdeka merupakan salah satu bentuk percepatan respon terhadap permasalahan pendidikan dan globalisasi. Hal ini juga sejalan dengan kecenderungan progresivisme yang sangat berpengaruh, yang membutuhkan perubahan cepat.
