Abstract

Teaching student with special needs could be complicated. This research aimed to define English teachers' challenges in teaching English to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This research was conducted at SLB Pelita Nusa Pekanbaru using qualitative methods within a case study research design. In-depth interviews with two English teachers, observation, and documentation were used as data collection techniques. Based on the results, teachers faced several challenges in teaching English to students with ASD that are closely related to the characteristics of the children themselves. The challenges could be regarding students' mood and emotional regulation issues, tantrums and behavioural issues, verbal communication barriers, short attention span and memory retention issues, students' repetitive and restricted behaviour, lack of motivation, and external factors such as parental influence. To address these issues, teachers used various strategies such as repetition in learning, using visual aids and technology, simplifying the instructions, adjusting the phase of learning, and collaborating with the parents. This research provides practical insight into teaching English to students with ASD. It highlights the necessity for teachers to be patient, creative, adaptive, and collaborative when teaching English to students with ASD.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the digitalization of the administrative information service system for early childhood education in Rokan Hilir Regency. Using an exploratory qualitative approach, the research was conducted at the Department of Education and Culture of Rokan Hilir Regency through documentation, observation, and in-depth interviews with relevant informants. Data analysis referred to six main components of the information system, namely hardware, software, procedures, human resources, databases, as well as data networks and data communities. The results of the study show that the implementation of administrative digitalization for early childhood education in Rokan Hilir Regency still faces various obstacles. The availability of hardware and software is uneven, digitalization procedures have not been consistently applied, and human resource competencies need to be improved. In addition, digital database management remains limited due to infrastructure and human resource constraints, while internet access and participation in data communities are still suboptimal, especially in coastal and remote areas. Therefore, efforts to improve infrastructure, provide human resource training, and strengthen data communities are necessary to support the effective and equitable implementation of administrative digitalization in early childhood education institutions in Rokan Hilir Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the contribution of adaptive instructional design in enhancing students’ self-confidence in speaking activities at the junior high school level in Bengkalis Regency, Indonesia. Self-confidence is a key psychological factor that influences students’ willingness to actively participate in oral communication. The research employed a quasi-experimental design involving two groups: an experimental group (taught with adaptive instructional strategies) and a control group (taught using conventional methods). A validated self-confidence questionnaire was administered as the main instrument, and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent sample t-test. The results revealed that the experimental group achieved a higher mean score (M = 78.65, SD = 6.42) compared to the control group (M = 70.12, SD = 7.11), with a statistically significant difference (t(58) = 3.47, p < 0.01). These findings highlight that adaptive instructional design—when tailored to students’ learning needs and characteristics—plays a crucial role in fostering psychological readiness and communicative competence. This study suggests that adaptive learning strategies can be effectively integrated into language teaching to create a supportive and engaging environment for students.

Abstract

This research explores the learning experiences of third-year English Study Program students in using Google Translate (GT) to support their academic language development, focusing on its practical use, impact on vocabulary and grammar, and related cognitive-emotional aspects. A qualitative approach was employed, using semi-structured interviews with ten participants. Thematic analysis revealed three key dimensions: engagement with the tool, academic development, and cognitive-emotional response. Participants reported that GT was highly practical, accessible, and useful for fostering independent learning. It contributed significantly to vocabulary learning and writing tasks, although grammar support was viewed with some caution. Students also showed awareness of GT’s limitations and reflected critically on their dependence on the tool. The findings suggest that GT, when used wisely, enhances language learning and supports academic success. The research concludes that GT is a helpful supplementary tool, provided students maintain critical engagement and avoid overreliance. Future research may explore the long-term effects of GT use on language proficiency and student autonomy.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the levels, types, and causes of writing anxiety among third-year students in the English Study Program at FKIP Universitas Riau. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed in this study, utilizing a sample of 72 sixth-semester students chosen through cluster random sampling.. The data were gathered through a questionnaire adapted from Cheng's Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory (SLWAI) (2004) and the Causes of Writing Anxiety Inventory (CWAI) created by Rezaei and Jafari (2014). The findings reveal that 37.5% of the students experienced high writing anxiety, 36.1% experienced moderate anxiety, and 26.4% experienced low anxiety. In terms of anxiety type, cognitive anxiety was the most dominant, followed by avoidance behavior and somatic anxiety. Additionally, the research identified linguistic difficulties as the primary cause of writing anxiety, accounting for 16.42%. This suggests that limited vocabulary, sentence structure issues, and grammar mastery are significant barriers for EFL students in academic writing tasks.

Abstract

Memiliki sikap empati sangat penting bagi siswa, karna semakin tinggi empati maka semakin bagus cara siswa bersosialisasi. Semakin tinggi kecakapan sosialnya, maka siswa akan mudah membentuk hubungan, membina hubungan baik dengan lingkungan sekitarnya, dan dapat membuat orang disekitarnya merasa nyaman. Maka dari itu, perlu adanya peningkatan tentang empati yang dapat membantu siswa meningkatkan kecakapan sosial dalam berinteraksi dengan lingkungan sekitarnya. Penelitian ini berjudul “Pengaruh Konseling Kelompok dengan Teknik Sosiodrama Menggunakan Media Film Untuk Meningkatkan Empati Siswa Kelas XI di SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru”. Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui tingkat empati siswa sebelum dan sesudah pemberian layanan konseling kelompok dengan teknik soiodrama menggunakan media film, mengetahui perbedaan empati sebelum dan sesudah pemberian layanan konseling kelompok dengan teknik sossiodrama menggunakan media film, dan pengaruh pemberian layanan konseling kelompok dengan teknik sosiodrama menggunakan media film untuk meningkatkan empati siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan jenis penelitian eksperimen. Subjek penelitian ini menggunakan teknik purposive sampling, yaitu siswa yang memiliki emati rendah. Adapun pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini berupa angket atau kuisioner. Kesimpulan dalam penelitian ini sebagai berikut: 1) Tingkat empati siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Pekanbaru sebelum diberikan layanan konseling kelompok dengan teknik sosiodrama menggunakan media film terdapat 6 orang siswa berada pada kategori rendah dan 2 orang siswa berada pada kategori sedang, Setelah pemberian layanan, tingkat empati siswa mengalami kenaikan, yakni 2 orang siswa berada pada kategori rendah dan 6 orang siswa berada pada kategori tinggi. 2)Adanya peningkatan tingkat empati siswa setelah diberikan layanan konseling kelompok dengan teknik sosiodrama menggunakan media film. Artinya terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada tingkat empati siswa sebelum dan sesudah diberikan treatment. 3) Layanan konseling kelompok dengan teknik sosiodrama menggunakan media film berpengaruh untuk meningkatkan empati siswa

Abstract

Kesulitan belajar merupakan kondisi dimana terjadinya hambatan yang membuat seseorang mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami, memproses, atau mengaplikasikan informasi dan keterampilan yang telah diajarkan. Kesulitan belajar bisa disebabkan oleh faktor kognitif, emosional, sosial atau biologis. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konseling kelompok dengan Teknik Problem Solving untuk mengatasi Kesulitan Belajar siswa SMA Negeri 15 Pekanbaru. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis eksperimen dengan desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah Pre-Experimental Design dengan model desain One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Adapun pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kuesioner atau angket tentang kesulitan belajar siswa melalui penyebaran pretest dan posttest yang selanjutnya dianalisis dengan uji Wilcoxon dan uji Rank Spearman dengan bantuan program SPSS Versi 25 Windows. Berdasarkan hasil data yang diperoleh tingkat kesulitan belajar siswa sebelum diberikan layanan konseling kelompok dengan teknik Problem Solving dalam kategori tinggi dan mengalami penurunan tingkat kesulitan belajar setelah diberikan layanan konseling kelompok dengan teknik Problem Solving. Selanjutnya pada penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan tingkat kesulitan belajar siswa sebelum dan sesudah diberikan layanan konseling kelompok dengan teknik Problem Solving dan layanan konseling kelompok dengan teknik Problem Solving berpengaruh dalam mengatasi kesulitan belajar siswa.

Abstract

Mastery of English language competence is a demand for non-English study program students. The purpose of this study is to determine the problems of learning English as ESP (English for specific purpose) in the development of teaching materials for students. This research methodology uses qualitative through systematic literature review. The results of this study are problematic in English learning of ESP are the Lecturers  face difficulties in developing ESP materials that are in accordance with student needs and the obstacle  of obtaining ESP textbooks which relevant to work field of students. Solutions to overcome the problem of learning special English (ESP) in students in the Digital Revolution era involve industry-relevant curricula, the use of digital technology, interactive and contextual content, collaboration with industry,  Soft skills development, Project-based learning, comprehensive evaluation, a student-centered approach, and psychological and technical support for students who need it.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan agar peserta dapat meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran sehingga metode pembelajaran menjadi inovatif dan kreatif. Salah satu hal yang dapat dilakukan guru untuk membuat pempelajaran menyenangkan dan menarik bagi siswa yakni dengan menggunakan game edukasi. Game edukasi merupakan contoh mediapendidikan yang dapat digunakan menjadi alat pembelajaran. Permainan tipe ini umumnya digunakan untuk mengundang penggunanya agar dapat memperoleh ilmu pengetahuan, sehingga permainan edukasi digunakan dalam dunia pembelajaran. Permainan edukasi menggabungkan antara belajar serta bermain, game edukasi ini juga bisa digunakan untuk menarik minat siswauntuk menimba ilmu. Adapun metode penerapan kegiatan pengabdian adalah ceramah, demontrasi dan latihan pengunaan permainan kelompok dalam konseling. Sasaran kegiatan adalah guru-guru sekolah dasar. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini yakni bertambahnyapengetahuan , guru sekolah dasar menjadi lebih terampil dan percaya diri serta mendapatkan pengalaman dalam menggunakan game edukasi.

Abstract

Kenakalan remaja merupakan perilaku menyimpang yang dilakukan oleh remaja berdampak negatif terhadap perkembangan mereka baik secara pribadi, sosial, maupun akademis. Salah satu strategi pelayanan bimbingan dan konseling yang bisa dilakukan untuk masalah ini adalah bimbingan kelompok melalui teknik restrukturisasi kognitif. Pengunaan teknik khusus dalam kegiatan bimbingan kelompok diharapkan bisa mengembangkan potensi remaja secara optimal. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan agar peserta kegiatan dapat menyelenggarakan bimbingan kelompok secara efektif dengan menggunakan teknik cognitive restructuring. Metode penerapan kegiatan pengabdian adalah ceramah, demontrasi dan latihan pengunaan teknik cognitive restructuring dalam pelaksanaan bimbingan kelompok untuk mengatasi kenakalan remaja. Sasaran kegiatan guru bimbingan dan konseling tingkat SMP sederajat di Kabupaten Siak. Untuk mengetahui tingkat keberhasilan kegiatan dilakukan dengan memberikan pre-tes dan post-tes sebelum dan sesudah kegiatan pengabdian. Hasil Pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat ini menambahkan pengetahuan, pemahaman, pengalaman, dan rasa percaya diri, serta komitmen guru Bimbingan dan Konseling untuk mengunakan teknik cognitive restructuring dalam pelaksanaan bimbingan kelompok di sekolah.
