Abstract

In the last decade, the intensity and quality of disaster threats in the Islands Mentawai have been the tallest. Experience has given birth to local wisdom in adapting to natural disasters, especially flood problems. One of the local pearls of wisdom possessed by the Mentawai people to adapt to floods is disaster-friendly houses ( Uma ). So this article was constructed to examine Uma's axiology in dealing with floods. The research method used is a qualitative approach, where data collection techniques use interviews and observation. In-depth interviews were conducted with two different community groups, namely the elite group and the lay community group consisting of 3 elite groups; traditional leaders, religious leaders, community leaders, and 20 general public groups. Data validation was carried out using triangulation techniques and analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and concluding/verification. Research findings show that Uma has strong adaptive and mitigating powers in dealing with flood disasters. Uma can be compared to the construction of developed countries such as Japan, the Netherlands, and England in adapting to flood risks. Increasingly complex climatic conditions, together with the consequences of inappropriate tourism expansion and weak land use management, have led to an increase in the frequency and severity of flooding in the Mentawais – saltwater intrusion, temperature changes, weather changes, and landslides. The Mentawai region is increasingly vulnerable to the risk of saltwater intrusion, which affects the ability to supply clean water and develop regional infrastructure. Rainfall combined with higher tides has caused an increase in the extent of flooding, especially in the lowland areas of Mentawai Regency Keywords : Flood Disaster Adaptation ; Uma ; Local wisdom ; Mentawai

Abstract

Instillingnoble values in sports at school, especially physical education subjects, is not optimal at the high school level because of its unstable nature. The problem in research is that many students still do not have a sportsmanlike attitude when they accept defeat. Besides, they do not have a sense of responsibility and discipline in the group during practical subjects. The purpose of this study was to determine the contribution of the noble values of sports to the attitude of responsibility and discipline. This study uses a quantitative method which is quantitative with a regression test. The population and the sample are 60 random students. In calculating the regression coefficient, the value is positive, and the result of the equation in the constant is 22.191, which means that the consistency value is 22.191. With a contribution of 17.00 percent. This study concludes that the noble value in sports on affective responsibility and discipline shows an outstanding category.

Abstract

Coal mining has a significant impact on reducing river water quality. The decline in river water quality causes problems for human life and the environment. Therefore, this research aimed to evaluate river water quality and develop strategies for improving river water quality due to open pit coal mining activities in Tenggarong Seberang District and develop environmental improvement strategies. Several chemical parameters, including pH, TSS, Fe, and Mn, were observed through laboratory tests to determine water quality in the Separi River used in coal mining. The next step was determining environmental improvement strategies using the ISM approach. Twenty stakeholders from related agencies and institutions using FGD were involved in developing a policy strategy. The results of the analysis showed that there has been a decrease in river water quality standards due to mining activities in the research area, and the quality is still below the standard quality. Therefore, two significant strategies must be a priority for the environmental management of the Separi River. First, Conducting an environmental audit of the factors causing the decline in river water quality is necessary. Second, there must be warnings and legal sanctions for negligence in oil spills and oil used from coal mining.

Abstract

This study investigates waste management challenges at Purus Beach, Padang City, West Sumatra, with the aim of identifying effective strategies to address environmental and sanitation issues caused by increased tourism and trading activities. A qualitative approach was employed, involving data collection through interviews and observations, with participants including representatives from the Padang City Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK), cleaning staff, traders, and tourists. The findings reveal that waste accumulation at Purus Beach primarily originates from household and industrial debris transported by rivers, exacerbated by poor public awareness and inadequate government policies. Current waste management efforts, such as the provision of segregated bins through CSR initiatives, remain insufficient. Key areas of concern include the lack of sustainable waste processing systems and ineffective regulatory enforcement. Recommendations include improving infrastructure, raising public awareness, fostering community participation, integrating technological innovations, and enforcing stricter policies, such as bans on single-use plastics. The study concludes that a comprehensive, long-term waste management approach is crucial for preserving coastal environments and supporting sustainable tourism. Effective waste management not only enhances environmental health but also contributes to economic and social development in coastal regions.

Abstract

Drinking water is water that meets health standards and can be consumed directly. The demand for drinking water is increasing, but the challenge of water pollution is reducing the availability of clean water sources. Refill water depots have become an alternative, but their quality needs to be maintained to ensure public safety. The aim of this study is to analyze the microbiological quality of refill drinking water in Padang City. This research used a descriptive cross-sectional method with the CFU method for analyzing Total Coliform and E. coli. The results show that the majority of refill drinking water in Padang City does not meet the quality standards (0 CFU/100 ml). Out of 12 depots tested, 41.67 % depots significantly exceeded the standards, with Total Coliform reaching and E. coli > 0 CFU/100 ml. The conclusion of this study is that most refill drinking water depots in Padang City do not meet quality standards and contain E. coli and Total Coliform. It is recommended that refill water depots improve cleanliness, sanitation, equipment maintenance, and conduct routine testing to ensure water quality meets the standards. The government should strengthen monitoring and conduct periodic evaluations.

Abstract

The sanitation conditions in schools across Indonesia vary significantly, with many schools, especially in remote areas, lacking proper sanitation facilities such as clean water, adequate toilets, and hygiene programs. This has a direct impact on students' health, contributing to issues such as diarrhea, dehydration, and malnutrition. Good sanitation is essential as it contributes to students' health and creates a more conducive learning environment. The Adiwiyata School Program, which integrates environmental education and sustainability, plays a crucial role in improving school sanitation by enhancing facilities and changing students' behavior towards cleanliness. This study aims to explore the impact of the Adiwiyata School Program on sanitation in Indonesian schools through a literature review approach. The method used is a literature review to collect data from various sources such as journals, books, and relevant online articles. The findings suggest that the Adiwiyata Program has successfully improved sanitation, particularly in areas like canteen cleanliness, waste management, and the implementation of handwashing practices, although challenges related to budget and awareness still exist. It is recommended that further research be conducted to examine the direct impact of the Adiwiyata Program and the need for increased awareness and budget support to strengthen the program’s effectiveness.
