Abstract

Abstract

Female genital mutilation (FGM) is a debated practice in Indonesia, from religious, health and legal perspectives. This study aims to explore the views of religious leaders and medical professionals on the practice of female circumcision, and examine its compatibility with Islamic teachings, medical standards, and applicable regulations. This study used a qualitative approach with a semi-structured interview method involving five resource persons from among religious leaders and health professionals in the Sumedang area. Analysis was conducted using a thematic approach to identify patterns and views that emerged. The results showed that some religious leaders still view female circumcision as a sunnah action, but do not require its implementation, especially if it can cause harm. Meanwhile, from a medical perspective, this practice is considered to have no health benefits and can actually cause physical and psychological harm. The practice is also considered contrary to children's rights and is no longer legally recommended in Indonesia. This study concludes that there is a need for comprehensive education and collaboration between religious leaders, medical personnel, and policy makers to gradually prevent the practice of female circumcision through an approach based on religious values, health protection, and children's rights.

Abstract

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a complex mental disorder. In the Islamic perspective, it is known as waswas, which is a demonic whisper that disturbs peace and worship. In the context of nursing, OCD is seen as a neuropsychiatric disorder that requires medical and psychological interventions. This study aims to explore the differences and similarities between the views of ulama and psychiatric nurses towards OCD and explore appropriate and integrated treatment approaches. The method used was a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design, through literature study and interviews. The results showed that ulama interpret OCD as a test from Allah and part of a spiritual disorder, while psychiatric nurses define it as a mental disorder with symptoms of obsessions and compulsions. Both agree that OCD needs serious and integrated treatment. Medical approaches such as pharmacotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with the Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) technique, as well as spiritual approaches such as dhikr, prayer, and worship habits, are considered complementary in the healing process. Thus, the integration of Islamic values and modern nursing ethics is needed to create a more comprehensive OCD treatment model that is rooted in local culture and spiritual values.
