Abstract

The decision to build a new capital on the Kalimantan Island called Nusantara caused various conflicts, such as the neglect and marginalization of indigenous peoples and the ignoring of their certainty of access and meaningful participation. This paper explains how the substance of the Nusantara Capital development regulation is to provide full protection to Indigenous peoples or vice versa, how it impacts the protection of Indigenous people's rights, as well as how the affirmative action model fulfills the rights of Indigenous peoples in the Nusantara Capital area. Through a socio-legal approach as the method, the results of the study found that the constitution has regulated the recognition of indigenous peoples, but in the substance of regulations related to the Nusantara capital, the phrases that regulate are very weak. The phrases used do not explicitly ensure the protection of the rights of indigenous peoples, which has an impact on various neglect of the existence of indigenous peoples. As a result, a model of affirmative action is needed for indigenous peoples in the regulation of the Nusantara capital. This includes ensuring access for indigenous peoples to be involved in policymaking. Furthermore, transparency of information in the development of the Nusantara capital is important to formulate policies that accommodate the protection and fulfillment of the rights of indigenous peoples. It is important to ensure the recognition of indigenous peoples and their living space through an affirmative action model regulated by the head of the Nusantara capital authority.

Abstract

Despite existing research on the implementation of the Independent learning- independent campus (MBKM) program, limited attention has been given to the experiences of EFL learners participating in the student exchange and entrepreneurship programs. To fill this gap, this study aims to explore the perceptions and experiences of EFL learners participating in the MBKM program. Utilizing a case study design, data were gathered from four EFL learners at a university in Indonesia. Interviews were conducted, and the data were analyzed using thematic analysis aided by computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS), MAXQDA. The findings reveal that the EFL learners exhibited a highly positive attitude toward the program. The findings also indicated that the EFL learners perceive the MBKM program favorably due to its diverse benefits, including opportunities to study at other universities and entrepreneurship skill development. Challenges identified include issues related to fund distribution from the government, as well as culture shock and homesickness. This study informs policy and practice to enhance support for MBKM participation and maximize its benefits.

Abstract

The digital era requires teachers to have competence in utilizing technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), in the learning process. However, there are still many elementary school teachers who do not understand and implement AI optimally. Therefore, this Community Service activity aims to improve teachers' understanding and skills in using AI as a learning medium through interactive workshops. The community service method used in this activity is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which was carried out at State Elementary School Pejuang 7 Bekasi involving 31 teachers. The success evaluation is conducted through a pre-test before the training and a post-test after the training by measuring several key aspects, namely: (1) understanding of AI concepts in education, (2) technical skills in operating AI-based platforms, and (3) the ability to design AI-based learning strategies. The results of community service showed an increase in teachers' understanding of AI by 31%, which was shown through the difference in pre-test and post-test results. Before the workshop, most teachers did not understand AI in learning. Still, after the workshop, teachers were better able to integrate AI as a tool in designing more interactive and innovative learning. Optimizing the use of AI in elementary schools can contribute to improving the quality of learning that is more effective, interesting, and in accordance with current developments.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the urgency and construction of climate change legal reformulation in a sustainable and justice manner. Political legislation related to climate change currently manifests mainly through implementation regulations or even through policy products with less legal standing and binding force than if it is regulated in a law. The method used is normative legal research with a regulatory and conceptual approach. The results show that reformulation is required considering that climate change control efforts have not been effective. The environmental organisations state that various regions are still affected by climate change, experiencing deforestation and depending on the exploitation of natural resources. For these reasons, a new formulation of climate change regulation that ensures justice is to establish an omnibus law on Climate Change. This idea is new, yet still in line with the results of previous studies and research regarding the lack of climate change regulation that is still dispersed in many regulations and/or policies. The omnibus law on climate change is expected to be an instrument of climate change control that has dimensions of justice for society and the environment.

Abstract

To minimize forestry sector greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, Indonesia needs stakeholder participation, especially youth. The AmericanIndonesian Scholarship Program Alumni Association (ALPHA-I) initiated the "Local Heroes for Forest Protection" program to include local adolescents in climate action. During 2023-2024, 149 direct participants from three provinces (Sulawesi Tenggara, Papua Barat, and Nusa Tenggara Timur) contributed to the conservation of approximately 12.5 hectares of forest, surpassing our target area, by planting indigenous trees and indirectly impacting around 4,500 individuals through both online and on-site campaigns. The program encompassed capacity-building training, sustainability seminars, field activities, and displays via a talk-show festival on climate change, which garnered favorable comments. Despite the SWOT analysis indicating that all three regions have analogous obstacles and opportunities in program implementation, they effectively formulated action plans for forthcoming activities. Our program is anticipated to persist for three years, broadening its effects to more regions while fostering partnerships with various local and national organizations.

Abstract

Areca catechu (Areca catechu. L) contains many chemical components, namely, pectin, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, pectin oxalate and flavonoids. Tannins are very complex organic substances and consist of phenolic compounds. Tannins are obtained by extraction with water and ethanol solvents because tannins can dissolve with these solvents. This study aims to identify tannin compounds in areca nut using ethanol as a solvent. This research is a laboratory experiment with an extraction process using the maceration method. The areca nut is dried and mashed and then sifted. Then the powder was macerated with 70% ethanol solvent for ± 24 hours, then evaporated and then tested qualitatively and determined the type of tannins. The results showed that areca nut extract was positive for tannins and the type of tannin was condensed tannins.
