Abstract

This study briefly describes the process of paying the Pisuke money according to Sasak traditional wedding traditions. The Sasak people are known for their diverse and unique traditions. The tradition of elopement, or elopement, is a long-standing tradition that still exists today among the Sasak people. Within this tradition, a process called Pisuke is part of the local wisdom of the Sasak people and is a cultural treasure. The payment of Pisuke has been carried out by most people using money, the aim being to simplify the payment process and its use. This tradition has been passed down through generations by the Sasak people. Therefore, in several villages in Sakra District, the community has agreed and requires the payment of Pisuke money, both for marriages with people domiciled in the same village and especially with people from other villages. Because the payment of Pisuke money in Sakra District precedes the marriage contract, the marriage contract will be delayed if the payment of Pisuke is delayed. The pisuke money itself is given by the groom to the bride, for a family thanksgiving ceremony, inviting close neighbors. The pisuke money is also used to purchase household supplies for the bride and groom, with the remainder going to other expenses.

Abstract

The implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) requires students to have higher order thinking skills (HOTs), which remain challenging for many Indonesian students. One key component of HOT is mathematical communication skills, which can be improved through the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. From an Islamic perspective, Sedekah (Sedekah) represents an act of giving that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1 objective of poverty alleviation. This study aims to determine the differences in enhancing mathematical communication skills and students' awareness of No-Poverty through PBL learning in the context of Sedekah in Islamic and Regular Schools. This study employed a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental research design. The population was all students in one Regular School, Banda Aceh and one Islamic School, Aceh Besar, Aceh, Indonesia. This sample included 56 students in an experimental class and 56 in a control class. The instruments in this study were a mathematical communication skill test and a questionnaire assessing students' awareness of No-Poverty. The hypothesis was tested using MANOVA, the Independent t-test, and the two-way ANOVA. The effect size of PBL learning was determined based on the Cohen-d effect size calculation. The findings reveal a significant difference in the improvement of mathematical communication skills and awareness of poverty alleviation between students in regular and Islamic schools. However, no interaction was found between the PBL model contextualized in sedekah and students' educational levels regarding mathematical communication skills and awareness of poverty alleviation. These results suggest that the PBL model effectively enhances students' mathematical communication skills and awareness of poverty alleviation.

Abstract

The integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into mathematics education has gained increasing attention in recent years. This study systematically reviews how mathematics contributes to sustainability and aligns with the SDGs. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines, analysing 31 studies published between 2019 and 2024 from databases such as EBSCO, ERIC, ProQuest, and Taylor & Francis. Content analysis identified key themes, including the SDGs addressed, educational levels, and research methodologies. The findings indicate that most studies focus on SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 13 (Climate Action), primarily in primary and secondary schools. Qualitative and mixed-methods approaches are commonly used, with project-based learning as a frequently applied instructional model. The review confirms that mathematics education plays a vital role in fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and sustainability awareness. However, challenges persist in terms of curriculum development and teacher training. Future research should explore interdisciplinary approaches and expand the integration of diverse SDGs into mathematics education to strengthen its role in addressing global sustainability challenges.

Abstract

Students with special needs, including those with speech impairments, often face challenges in learning mathematics and therefore require specialised strategies, such as scaffolding, to enhance their mathematical understanding. This study aimed to examine how scaffolding strategies support students with speech impairments in overcoming difficulties in learning mathematics in a special school setting. This qualitative case study involved one teacher and five students with speech impairments, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observations, tests, interviews, and audio and video recordings. Data analysis was conducted in three stages: data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings show that the teacher’s scaffolding aligned with six aspects of the Mäkinen and Mäkinen framework: activation, presence, sensitivity, assistance, trust, and autonomy. Activation and assistance were the most strongly associated with improved conceptual understanding. The students demonstrated the ability to define, represent, and calculate the perimeter of squares and rectangles. Visual aids, concrete objects, and multimodal communication (oral, gestural, and sign language) enhanced understanding. Integrating visual, kinesthetic, and nonverbal strategies provides meaningful support for students with speech impairments, and the six-dimensional scaffolding framework serves as a practical guide for inclusive instructional design.

Abstract

The English language plays a pivotal role in education, particularly in global contexts. It is utilised in various domains, including education, business, and diplomacy. Moreover, it can be integrated with Islamic studies, particularly Islamic moderation, which emphasises balance, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. This study addresses a research gap by investigating the impact of religious moderation on students' learning competence in speaking classes, a topic that has received limited attention in previous studies. This research aims to investigate students’ learning competence in religious moderation at the English Department of the Tarbiyah Faculty of IAIN Parepare. This research was conducted from March to June 2024. This mixed-method study combines qualitative and quantitative data to provide a comprehensive understanding. Twenty students from the fifth semester participated, and data were collected through interviews and documentation. The findings indicate that religious moderation is effectively implemented in speaking classes through three stages: preparation (lecture planning with RPS), implementation (using materials from YouTube, podcasts, articles, and videos), and evaluation (role-playing videos to assess competence). The students' scores increased from 77.0 to 85.76, showing significant improvement. The study shows that integrating religious moderation in speaking classes enhances language competence, with positive students’ perceptions confirming it as an effective teaching strategy.
