Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH) model in improving joint attention skills in early childhood autistic children at SLB Autisme River Kids in Malang City. The TEACCH model emphasizes structured learning environments to enhance comprehension for autistic children. This approach involves physical structure, where learning spaces are clearly organized to minimize confusion and provide predictability. Visual schedules help children understand the sequence of activities and prepare them for transitions between tasks. Structured tasks ensure that activities are presented systematically, allowing children to complete them independently. Additionally, visual supports, such as images, symbols, or text-based cues, assist in reinforcing instructions, fostering autonomy, and reducing anxiety in the learning process. Data were analyzed using reduction, display, and inference techniques, with source triangulation to ensure validity. The results of the study showed that the TEACCH approach significantly (p < 0.05) improved joint attention skills in autistic children. Subjects demonstrated improvements in sharing attention with teachers or peers, an enhanced ability to follow visual instructions, and a reduction in maladaptive behaviors. The discussion highlighted that visual structures provide clarity, reduce anxiety, and increase children's participation in learning. However, this study confirms that a visually structured approach should be widely implemented in inclusive schools to support the social and communicative development of autistic children. The findings suggest that TEACCH-based interventions can serve as an effective educational strategy, not only in special education settings but also in mainstream classrooms aiming to accommodate neurodiverse learners.

Abstract

Sharing behavior is a key in altruism that serves as a strategy to strengthen empathy and solidarity within the community (Guttman et al., 2016). This study investigates the relationship between sharing behavior and altruism, and its effects on the development of empathy in the community. The literature review shows that the act of sharing not only strengthens social relationships but also increases understanding between individuals (Chiu et al., 2006). When individuals engage in sharing, they tend to be more caring towards others, and create a more cooperative environment (Schor & Fitzmaurice, 2015). Sharing behavior also plays a role in strengthening group solidarity, building trust and support among community members. Studies show that communities with a strong culture of sharing are better able to face various social and economic challenges (Carleton & Hsiang, 2016). However, barriers such as stigma and mistrust can hinder participation in sharing. Therefore, it is important to design interventions that can overcome these barriers and raise awareness of the importance of sharing as a form of altruism. Thus, it can be said that sharing behavior has an important role in building empathy and solidarity, and requires collaboration from various sectors to create a more inclusive and empathetic society (Tomasello et al., 2005)

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted education, causing learning loss due to reduced teacher-student interaction during distance learning. Digital methods often failed to improve engagement and outcomes due to remote monitoring difficulties. A hybrid learning approach integrating offline and online methods was introduced, supported by an Artificial Intelligence Camera Controller (AICC), allowing 50% of students in-person participation while others joined online. This study investigated AICC-supported hybrid learning's impact on student engagement and mathematics outcomes using a quasi-experimental 2x3 factorial design with non-equivalent control groups. The participants of this study consisted of an experimental group of 64 students and a control group of 62 students. Data were collected through observations, questionnaires, and tests, analyzed using Two-Way ANOVA. Results showed AICC-supported hybrid learning significantly improved outcomes compared to hybrid learning without AICC. Findings revealed: (1) no significant difference between high and medium engagement students; (2) no significant difference between medium and low engagement students; (3) significant differences between high and low engagement students. AICC-supported hybrid learning effectively enhances engagement and academic performance, offering a promising post-pandemic educational strategy. Teachers should adopt this method for improved student competencies.
