Abstract

Adolescence is a transition period from childhood to adulthood that requires nutritional intake of iron. Children with iron deficiency are highly susceptible to anemia. This study aimed to determine the effect of rainbow gaguk fish (Arius thalassinus) cookies on macro-and micronutrient intake in adolescent girls with anemia. This study used preliminary data from the Bengkulu Provincial Health Office, where many students experienced anemia in one junior high school. In the selection of samples using simple random sampling, 50 g of rainbow gaguk fish biscuits were used. The dependent variable in this study was gaguk fish. The independent variables were the macro-and micronutrient intake. This study employed a quasi-experimental pre-post-test intervention research using a purposive sampling design. Data analysis was performed using the paired t-test and Wilcoxon test at 95% confidence interval (CI). The results showed that before giving fish cookies, energy intake was 44,4%, protein 51,5%, carbohydrate 51,4%, vitamin B12 52,5%, folate 38,5%, iron 54%, and zinc 45,6%; after an increase in energy intake, energy intake was 55,8%, protein 62,3%, carbohydrate 52,1%, vitamin B12 65%, folate 39,1%, iron 74%, and zinc 81,1% (p<0,001). In conclusion, the provision of rainbow biscuits to adolescent girls with anemia improved significantly.

Abstract

Anemia is a global health problem with significant impacts on adolescent girls. The prevalence of anemia among women aged ≥15 years worldwide remains stagnant at 29.9%. Compliance with iron tablet consumption remains low, partly due to inadequate knowledge. The Participatory, Active, Creative, Effective, and Fun (PAKEM) education model is considered a potential approach to improve knowledge and promote compliance with iron tablet consumption. This study aimed to analyze the effect of PAKEM-based anemia education on knowledge levels and compliance with iron tablet consumption among adolescent girls at SMK Negeri 2 Padang. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group approach. The research was conducted from May to October 2025, involving 74 adolescent girls, who were divided into intervention and control groups using simple random sampling. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). Univariate data were presented as frequency distributions, while bivariate analysis was performed using the chi-square test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed an increase in knowledge in the intervention group, from predominantly moderate (48.6%) to good (73.0%). Compliance with iron tablet consumption improved from predominantly low (64.9%) to moderate (43.2%) after receiving PAKEM-based education. The chi-square test showed significant differences in knowledge (p=0.001) and compliance with iron tablet consumption (p=0.008) between the intervention and control groups after receiving PAKEM-based anemia education.). In conclusion, PAKEM-based anemia education is effective in improving knowledge and compliance with iron tablet consumption among adolescent girls. This model can be recommended as an innovative strategy to enhance anemia prevention programs in schools.

Abstract

The disease pattern in Indonesia is currently shifting from infectious diseases to degenerative diseases. This pattern is accompanied by the problem of a double burden of disease. The incidence of degenerative diseases is increasing along with changes in lifestyle and environmental behavior. One of the threats of degenerative diseases to public health is diabetes mellitus. The prevalence of diabetes in people aged over 15 years increased from 10.9% in 2018 to 11.7% in 2023. This shows that this disease is not only a problem for the elderly but also affects the productive age group. The main causes include unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, and obesity. This study aims to observe and explore the behavior of people with diabetes in controlling blood glucose while suffering from diabetes. The research method used in this study is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach, with the informant selection technique using the snowball technique of 25 people. The main instrument of qualitative research is the researcher herself. The researcher is a nurse with a Masters in Nursing. The researcher as a facilitator also uses the tools used in the study as data collection instruments, namely the Digital Voice Recorder in this case the researcher's cellphone (Oppo A92) and interview guidelines and field notes and the researcher conducted in-depth interviews for approximately 3 weeks, data processing and data analysis using the Colaizzi method which consists of seven stages. Based on the results of in-depth interviews with 25 informants, 16 themes of the phenomenon of factors causing uncontrolled blood glucose were obtained, including incorrect knowledge about diabetes, the assumption that diabetes is a harmless disease, boredom factors in managing diet, poor behavior in daily eating habits, taking medication not according to the given dose, rarely or not doing sports activities, having an attitude that ignores the rules in following a diet while suffering from diabetes, information obtained from health workers and family is minimal, information from various media such as the internet is not utilized, limited health workers in providing education, feelings of hopelessness while suffering from diabetes mellitus, feeling that they do not get support from family or health workers in treating diabetes while suffering from diabetes mellitus, alternatives to drugs from the hospital are taking herbal medicines. The phenomenon of the dominant factors causing uncontrolled blood glucose is incorrect knowledge about diabetes, as well as the assumption that diabetes is a harmless disease, as well as boredom factors in regulating diet, and poor behavior in daily eating habits, as well as rarely or never doing sports activities, and having attitudes and behaviors that ignore the rules in undergoing treatment while suffering from diabetes.

Abstract

Obesity or being overweight is a global problem that occurs due to improper diet and nutritional intake. The 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) report showed that the proportion of obesity in the population aged 15-24 years was 16.2%. This study aims to analyze the relationship between calcium intake and blood calcium levels with body mass index in students of the Padang Ministry of Health Polytechnic. The study design used a cross-sectional study with a sample size of 73 students selected randomly. Data were obtained through interviews using the SQ-FFQ sheet, anthropometric measurements, and analysis of blood calcium levels. The results showed that the respondents' BMI was 24.58, the average daily calcium intake was 259.07 mg, far below the daily recommendation of 1000-1200 mg. The average blood calcium levels of respondents were within the normal range (mean 9.71 mg/dL and standard deviation 0.35 mg/dL). Statistical analysis showed a significant negative relationship between calcium intake and Body Mass Index (BMI) (p=0.020), a significant relationship was found between blood calcium levels and BMI (p=0.027). In conclusion, low calcium intake is correlated with an increased risk of obesity. It is recommended to Poltekkes to always have continuity of BMI screening and pay attention to calcium intake education through healthy eating patterns among students and for students who experience calcium deficiency, it is expected to be consulted to the clinic.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the effect of Task-Based Learning on students' reading comprehension in English language learning among tenth-grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah Bangkinang. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a random sampling technique. The sample consisted of 60 students from two classes: X 2 as the experimental group and X 3 as the control group, with 30 students in each class. The students in the experimental group were taught using the Task-Based Learning approach, which emphasizes the use of meaningful tasks as the core of the learning process, while the students in the control group were taught using conventional teaching methods without the application of Task-Based Learning. Data analysis included validity and reliability testing, normality and homogeneity tests, and a t-test, which showed a significance value (2-tailed) < 0.05, specifically 0.178. Since the calculated significance value (0.179) is lower than the significance level (0.05), the researcher rejected the null hypothesis (Ho) and accepted the alternative hypothesis (Ha). This indicates that there is a significant difference in reading comprehension between students who were taught using the Task-Based Learning approach and those who learned through conventional methods. In conclusion, the findings suggest that implementing Task-Based Learning in reading instruction effectively improves students’ reading comprehension in English language learning. By engaging students in meaningful and goal-oriented tasks, this approach encourages active participation, promotes critical thinking, and enhances their ability to understand texts more deeply. As a result, students become more independent and confident readers who can interpret, analyze, and evaluate written information effectively

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of environmental care attitudes among fifth-grade students at SDM 027 Batubelah, as indicated by initial observation data across four indicators: cleaning trash bins (29.6%), cleaning the school environment (22.2%), maintaining the school garden (7.4%), and maintaining environmental cleanliness (44.4%). The objective of this study is to improve students' environmental care attitudes through the application of the Moral Reasoning model assisted by Dilemma Cards. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis & Taggart design, conducted in two cycles, each consisting of two sessions. The research subjects were 26 fifth-grade students at SDM 027 Batubelah. Data collection instruments included the "Aksi Nyata" (Real Action) observation sheet, teacher and student activity observation sheets, worksheets, and interview guidelines. The results showed consistent improvement in each session. Classical mastery increased from 36% (Cycle I, Session 1) to 52% (Cycle I, Session 2), then rose to 64% (Cycle II, Session 1) and reached 80% (Cycle II, Session 2), exceeding the minimum success indicator of 75%. The average class score also rose steadily from 45.60% in the pre-action stage to 86.28% by the end of Cycle II. Thus, the Moral Reasoning model assisted by Dilemma Card media proved effective in improving the environmental care attitudes of fifth-grade students in the Pancasila Education subject.
