Abstract

This study aims to develop ethnomathematics-based e-worksheets and analyze their effects on students' creative thinking skills in learning quadrilaterals and triangles. Ethnomathematics was chosen as an innovative approach that connects mathematical concepts with local wisdom, thus creating a more contextual and meaningful learning experience. E-worksheets are made with the stages of development, implementation, and evaluation adopted from branches using 90 samples from purposive sampling techniques. The data collection instrument was an essay test to measure students' creative thinking skills. Data analysis used an independent sample t-test statistical test with the help of SPSS 25 software. The study showed that the t-count value (14.216) was more significant than the t table (1.990) at a significance level of 0.05, indicating an essential difference between the experimental and control groups. The experimental group showed an average increase in creative thinking skills of 67.5%, much higher than the control group of 46.5%. This improvement is especially seen in originality and elaboration, which shows that ethnomathematics can stimulate students' creative ideas through relevant cultural contexts. This study offers a new approach to learning mathematics in the digital era through integrating local culture in e-worksheets, creating interactive learning media, and strengthening students' cultural identity. Using ethnomathematics-based e-worksheets is recommended as an alternative innovative and effective learning media to improve the quality of education, especially in building students’ creative thinking skills in the digital era.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the diminishing role of mamak in Jorong Tigo Tumpuak. Mamak functions more as a father in his wife's family. The position and role of a mamak also began to change, for example in terms of the economy and education of his nephews, it should be the mamak who is responsible for the economy and education of his nephews, but now the role is taken more by the father. The findings in this study explain that the Shifting Functions of Mamak in the implementation of Minangkabau Customs the economic function is successful or unsuccessful economically the nephews remains the responsibility of the mamak and participates in guiding the nephews. The educational function of a mamak does not play much of a role in delivering the nephews to be able to go to school even to college. The religious function of the mamak's role as a guide to religious values has shifted due to busyness, and some of the responsibility has shifted to parents and teachers. The customary function of the mamak's understanding of customs has also declined, causing this important role not to be fulfilled properly.

Abstract

This study aims to identify conflict management strategies in building a harmonious school environment. The subjects of the study consisted of all teachers and students involved in inter-student conflict behavior in the 2023/2024 academic year, with samples taken from one class teacher. The research method used was qualitative, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, as well as data analysis conducted descriptively qualitatively. The results of the study indicate that the role of teachers at SD Negeri 52 Banda Aceh is very effective in preventing and handling conflicts between students. The research process began with observation and discussion with the classroom teacher about the method to be used, followed by data collection carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation on October 12, 2024. Teachers apply various strategies, such as teaching positive values, implementing strict class rules, and running anti-conflict programs. Teachers' proactive response in handling conflict cases includes direct intervention, providing counseling, and involving parents. Although these efforts have a positive impact on students, challenges such as lack of special training, limited time, and lack of support from parents hinder the effectiveness of conflict management. Types of conflicts identified among students include verbal, psychological, and physical contact conflicts.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the obstacles faced by Democracy Volunteers, a social movement partnering the General Election Commission (KPU) in improving voters’ education in the 2019 simultaneous regional election in the cities of Pekanbaru and Dumai, Riau province. Democracy Volunteer has the principle “from voters to voters”, because as facilitators, they come from the community that they will educate. This research used a qualitative approach with descriptive method. Informants were determined through non-probability sampling technique using purposive sampling technique. The number of research informants amounted to nine people consisting of the KPU commissioners and staff in charge of the Democracy Volunteer program, as well as Democracy Volunteers members for women voters. The data validity was tested using triangulation of data sources. The findings of the study show that in carrying out its duties as the facilitators of voter education, the Democracy Volunteers experience several obstacles, including (1) limited working time for volunteers; the allocated two-month time meant that not all regions could be visited to spread information on election and democracy; (2) limited time for the implementation of voter education activities in the community; (3) limited knowledge of Democracy Volunteers regarding electoral technicality and the lack of confidence in delivering material to the community so that only certain internal volunteers are relied on while others are only tasked with facilitating activities such as distributing snacks, installing banners and preparing attendance; (4) the apathy of the target community towards electoral information hence it is quite difficult to provide understanding and even motivation to participate in the election. Democracy Volunteers are partners of the KPU in inviting the public to become smart and responsible voters in order to accomplish quality elections.

Abstract

Traditional wooden shipbuilding can be seen from different perspectives, namely from industry and tradition and culture. As a tradition and culture, traditional wooden shipbuilding is a means of developing character and local wisdom which is closely related to the life of the people involved. Thus, this study aims to analyze the values of local wisdom in the creation of traditional wooden boats in the coastal areas of Riau and the Riau Archipelago. Research is the result of analysis of qualitative methods with data collection techniques through observation and interviews. The results of the study from the socio-anthropological review show that the culture and tradition of creating traditional wooden boats for coastal Malay communities is influenced by foreign cultures, forming a national identity, the knowledge possessed by craftsmen (workers) in shipbuilding is manual even though the size of the ships made is relatively large enough to 1,500 GT. In addition, the existence of these traditional wooden boats is considered sturdy so that they are in demand and widely used by world fishermen, especially in the archipelago. However, currently the existence of traditional wooden boats is becoming scarce due to the difficulty of raw materials. The character values of local wisdom contained in the creation of traditional wooden ships are hard workers (my ancestors were sailors). Among the national character values are: work hard (work hard), act correctly, be trustworthy, maintain unity, not destroy nature (love the environment), and so on.
