Abstract

Creativity is one of the essential competencies that should be developed in physics learning. However, conventional teacher-centered instruction has limited students' opportunities to develop their creativity. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning model assisted by a virtual laboratory on students' physics creativity in the topic of static fluids. This study employed a quasi-experimental method using a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of one experimental class and one control class selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was a verbal and figural creativity test that met the validity and reliability requirements. Data were analyzed using homogeneity testing, normality testing, hypothesis testing, and N-gain analysis. The results showed that the STAD cooperative learning model assisted by a virtual laboratory had a positive effect on students' physics creativity. Furthermore, the improvement in students' verbal and figural creativity in the experimental class was higher than that in the control class. Therefore, the STAD cooperative learning model assisted by a virtual laboratory can be used as an alternative approach to enhance students' creativity in physics learning.

Abstract

Conceptual mastery is a primary objective in physics education, as it serves as the foundation for students to understand natural phenomena and solve various scientific problems. However, observations at SMAN 1 Selong indicate that students' mastery of physics concepts remains low. One instructional alternative to address this issue is the Direct Instruction model supported by virtual laboratory media. This study aims to determine the effect of the Direct Instruction model supported by virtual laboratory media on students' mastery of physics concepts. This research employs an experimental method using a pretest-posttest control group design. The study population consisted of all Grade X students at SMAN 1 Selong; the sample was selected using purposive sampling, resulting in Class X MS 1 serving as the experimental group and Class X MS 5 as the control group. Data were collected using a conceptual mastery test administered before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, a two-tailed t-test, and the N-gain test. The results show that students in the experimental group achieved a greater improvement in conceptual mastery compared to those in the control group. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Direct Instruction model supported by virtual laboratory media has a positive effect on students' mastery of physics concepts and serves as an effective alternative for physics instruction.

Abstract

Problem-solving ability is one of the essential competencies that students should develop in physics learning. However, classroom instruction is often focused on content delivery and routine exercises, resulting in limited opportunities for students to develop systematic problem-solving skills. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the Direct Instruction model assisted by virtual simulation on students' physics problem-solving ability. The study employed a quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group design. The sample was selected through purposive sampling, consisting of 25 students in class X-MIA1 as the experimental group and 23 students in class X-MIA2 as the control group. Data were collected using a five-item essay test measuring physics problem-solving ability and analyzed using an independent-samples t-test with pooled variance and normalized gain (N-gain). The results showed that the mean score of the experimental group increased from 28.83 to 67.20, while the control group improved from 22.13 to 53.22. Hypothesis testing indicated that the calculated  (4.01) exceeded the critical t value (2.02) at the 5% significance level. Therefore, the Direct Instruction model assisted by virtual simulation had a significant positive effect on improving students' physics problem-solving ability.

Abstract

Problem-solving ability is one of the essential competencies that students should develop in physics learning. However, teacher-centered instruction and the limited implementation of laboratory activities have hindered the optimal development of this ability. One alternative to overcome this problem is the implementation of an inquiry learning model assisted by a virtual laboratory. This study aimed to analyze the effect of the inquiry learning model assisted by a virtual laboratory on students' physics problem-solving ability. This study employed an experimental research design using a pretest-posttest control group design. The population consisted of all tenth-grade students of MA DI Putri Nurul Hakim Kediri in the 2015/2016 academic year, while the sample was selected using the cluster random sampling technique. Data were collected using an expert-validated essay test of problem-solving ability. The data were analyzed using normality and homogeneity tests, followed by a pooled variance t-test. The results showed that the experimental group obtained a higher mean posttest score (73.67) than the control group (58.47). Furthermore, the hypothesis testing revealed that tcalculated = 4.469 was greater than ttable = 2.032 at the 5% significance level, indicating that the inquiry learning model assisted by a virtual laboratory had a significant positive effect on students' physics problem-solving ability. Therefore, this learning model can be considered an effective instructional alternative for improving students' physics problem-solving ability.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop an ethnoscience-based interactive physics learning media on sound waves that is valid and practical to support students' critical thinking skills. The development of the learning media was motivated by the fact that physics instruction remains predominantly conventional and has not yet integrated local culture as a contextual learning resource. The developed media integrates the concept of sound waves with the local culture of Lombok, particularly the Gendang Beleq tradition, using Articulate Storyline 3. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach based on the 4D model, consisting of the define, design, and develop stages. The resulting product was an ethnoscience-based interactive physics learning media accompanied by supporting instructional materials. Product validation was conducted by three expert validators and two practitioner validators. The practicality test involved 17 students of class XI MIPA B and two physics teachers at SMAN 10 Mataram. The research instruments included validation sheets, reliability sheets, and response questionnaires for both students and teachers. The results showed that the learning media achieved a validity score of 91.11% from expert validators and 98.33% from practitioner validators, both categorized as highly valid. The critical thinking skills instrument obtained validity scores of 91.67% from expert validators and 95.00% from practitioner validators, both categorized as highly valid, with a reliability score of 95.71%, indicating a reliable instrument. The practicality test results showed student and teacher response scores of 93.16% and 98.13%, respectively, both categorized as highly practical. Therefore, the developed learning media is considered feasible for use in physics learning.

Abstract

Physics education in the digital era demands pre-service teachers to be proficient in packaging abstract concepts into cognitive-friendly, multimodal digital media. However, conventional Project-Based Learning (PjBL) models frequently remain final product-oriented, lacking explicit guidance on content representation. This study aims to describe the conceptual design process of the Multimodal-PjBL syntax for pre-service physics teachers and to evaluate its theoretical feasibility. The research adopted a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which was limited to the first three phases up to expert validation. Data were collected utilizing a 5-point Likert scale expert validation instrument evaluating content accuracy, structural construct, readability (language), and technical presentation of the Model Book, instructional kits, and supporting research instruments. The research subjects involved four expert validators (two content specialists and two media specialists). Quantitative data were analyzed using a five-point mean score conversion interval, while qualitative data were processed interactively through data reduction and a revision tracking matrix. The results revealed that the structural modification of the PjBL syntax was successfully and logically integrated with multimodal aspects across all instructional stages. Quantitatively, all developed documents achieved a "Highly Valid" predicate, with mean scores consistently ranging from 4.50 ≤ M ≤ 5.00. Notably, the digital product assessment instrument and the textbook achieved a perfect score of 5.00. Qualitatively, the initial draft was refined based on expert feedback through high-resolution vector graphic enhancements, the elimination of double-barreled statements, and the formulation of operational descriptors to minimize inter-rater bias. In conclusion, the Multimodal-PjBL syntax is proven to satisfy rigorous content and construct validity principles, making it highly feasible as an instructional foundation for digital science media production courses.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the validity and limited trial results of physics learning tools based on the ethnoscience-integrated Inquiry-Creative-Process (ICP) model to improve prospective physics teachers’ critical thinking skills. This research employed a development research design and produced semester learning plans and learning scenarios, teaching materials or modules, and a critical thinking test instrument. The learning tools were validated by three expert validators based on content validity and construct validity. The limited trial used a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 29 prospective physics teachers. Data were analyzed descriptively using mean scores and n-gain, and inferentially using a paired sample t-test and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The validation results showed an average content validity score of 4.05 and an average construct validity score of 3.99, both categorized as valid. The limited trial results showed that the CTs score increased from 10.41 to 25.55 with an n-gain of 0.70. The average CTi score also increased from 1.30 to 3.19 with an n-gain of 0.70. The increase in CTs was significant based on the paired sample t-test, while all CTi indicators showed significant improvement based on the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. These findings indicate that physics learning tools based on the ethnoscience-integrated ICP model are valid and can improve prospective physics teachers’ critical thinking skills in a limited trial context.
