Abstract

Lagu nusantara merupakan warisan kekayaan budaya Indonesia. Pengenalan lagu nusantara sudah banyak dilakukan melalui pendidikan sekolah dasar sampai pendidikan menengah atas. Upaya ini dilakukan untuk melestarikan budaya Indonesia. Dalam pengenalan terhadap siswa banyak ditemukan kendala yaitu sulitnya siswa menghafal lirik dan menyanyikan berbagai lagu nusantara. Siswa belajar dari buku yang hanya menyediakan liriknya saja dan cara menyanyikan masih harus dibimbing oleh guru seni musik mereka. Untuk mempermudah siswa belajar, maka perlunya media yang mempermudah siswa untuk belajar. Teknologi yang dibahas pada penelitian ini adalah teknologi pemanfaatan smartphone berbasis android untuk memudahkan siswa dalam belajar lagu nusantara. Metode pengembangan aplikasi meliputi studi literatur, analisis, perancangan, pemprograman dan pengujian. Aplikasi dirancang dapat berjalan di perangkat android dengan operating sytem versi ics atau lebih terbaru. Model aplikasi yang dibuat berupa model client-server. Aplikasi client diperuntukan bagi pengguna yaitu siswa dan aplikasi server diperuntukkan untuk update info lagu nusantara yang dilakukan oleh administrator. Aplikasi yang dikembangkan menyajikan informasi lagu nusantara disetiap daerah berupa lirik lagu, suara pelantunanya dan video. Aplikasi info lagu nusantara dinilai mampu menjadikan media pembelajaran bagi siswa dalam mempelajari lagu-lagu nusantara hal ini dibuktikan dengan 78% responden menjawab setuju dari total responden 19 orang pengguna. 78% pengguna menganggap aplikasi info lagu nusantara memiliki tampilan yang menarik, susunan navigasi yang mudah, menyajikan informasi yang mudah dipahami,informatif dan edukatif. Kata kunci: aplikasi android, lagu nusantara, media pembelajaran.

Abstract

This research is aimed to find out and describe the use of Newmark’s translation methods in translating Gayle Forman’s novel I Was Here from English into Indonesian. Qualitative approach is applied because the data of this research are in the form of words, phrases, and sentences. The data of this research are taken from Gayle Forman’s novel I Was Here and its Indonesian translation by Poppy D. Chusfani. There are 1629 dialogue sentences data taken from the novel. In this research, the researcher collects and analyzes the data through examining documents. The data are collected by marking the dialogue sentences in both novels and put them into a table of observation. In doing the analysis, the researcher compares the dialogue sentences in both novels. The analysis of the translation methods is based on Pieter Newmark’s classification of translation methods. The findings of the research show that there are seven out of eight translation methods proposed by Newmark used. They are word-for-word translation method, literal translation method, faithful translation method, semantic translation method, free translation method, idiomatic translation method, and communicative translation method. Based on the frequency of the translation method used in translating the dialogue sentences of the novel which is free translation method shows that the translator wants to make the content and language of the translated text are acceptable and understandable for the target language (Indonesian) readers. Abstract

This study is conducted to analyze the translation strategies used to translate the idiomatic expressions in the novel “A Walk to Remember” into Indonesian, to analyze the degree of equivalence of the Indonesian translation, and to find out the relation between the strategy used and the degree of equivalence. The translation strategies used in this study are proposed by Baker while the degrees of equivalence are analyzed by using Bell’s theory. This research belongs to descriptive research using qualitative method to describe the objectives of this study. The data are analyzed by comparing the idioms in the English version to the Indonesian translation. After the data are identified, they are examined to find out the relation between the strategies used and the degree of equivalence. The findings of the analysis are: (1) four strategies were used to translate idioms in the novel A Walk to Remember into Indonesian, (2) in terms of degree of equivalence, it was found that most of the data were identified into fully equivalent translation, (3) in the relation between translation strategies used and the degree of equivalence, it was revealed that the translation strategies used mostly produce fully equivalent with complete meaning. Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate how the implementation of curriculum 2013 in teaching speaking skill at MAN 2 Bima. This research was qualitative method and used three English teachers who taught at MAN 2 Bima. The data of this study were collected through interview, questionnaires, observation, video recording, and document analysis. Then, they were classified and analysed qualitatively. The results of the research showed that all teachers implemented the Curriculum 2013 in teaching speaking and fulfill the criteria. The findings showed that firstly the implementation of curriculum 2013 in preparing the syllabus revealed that there were three English teachers were able in developing and arranging the syllabus in accordance with the 2013 Curriculum. Second, the implementation of using the lesson plan showed that 90% had been implemented in the teaching and learning activity. Third, the implementation of the materials showed that 91,74% was done well. Third, the implementation of using media was very effective because it made the students easy to understand the materials or the lesson and the teachers were also easy to deliver the lesson. Fourth, the implementation of technique in teaching speaking using observation checklist showed that 86.66% indicators applied well. Last, The implementation of assessment and evaluation used the observation checklist showed that 82,85% of indicators were applied well. So, from the all result above, it was concluded that the activities of implementing the curriculum 2013 in teaching speaking skill by the English teachers were appropriate with the standard of 2013 Curriculum.

Abstract

Language is crucial in human life as it cannot be separated from human being. People could deliver his or her thought by using language. Deixis is defined as words used to point on something that depends on the context. According to Levinson the single most obvious way in which the relationship between language and context is reflected in the structures of language themselves, is through the phenomenon of deixis. The aim of this study is to investigate the topic based on the observation, the realization of deixis also existed in education. The phenomenon occured when the English teacher explained the lessons in a classroom during the teaching learning process in SMA Islam Sultan Agung 3 Semarang. In obtaining the data, The research design used in this study was a qualitative research (particularly, a classroom analysis) supported by a bit of quantitative data. The object of the study comprised two things, namely teachers’ and students’ use of deixis in their talk. Person deixis was dominant used by interaction in class between students and English teacher of their talk. the teacher’s questionnaire could be said as valid.. The rtableused was 0.878 since the sample size was two teachers. And then, the students questionnaire was also valid. the rtableused was 0.388 since the sample size was thirty students. Pre-test were 46.6. After doing the same calculation procedures as to the post -test, the researcher found that the students’ mean score 81.0 from the data.

Abstract

This study aims to classify and identify how the translation techniques and quality achieved in Indonesian-English translation of Captions in Pekalongan Batik Museum. The aim is broken down into translation techniques, accuracy, acceptability, readability, and the translation quality influenced by translation techniques. The data of this study is the captions in Pekalongan batik museum written in Indonesian and English. The limitation of this study covers up the translation techniques and quality of Indonesian-English Translation of captions in Pekalongan Batik Museum. Descriptive qualitative research is employed in this study. The data gathered through 331 sentences for translation techniques and 30 texts in the form of captions for being investigated in translation quality. The results show that thirteen of the eighteen translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir (2002) are chosen by the translator. They are: literal translation, reduction, borrowing, addition, generalization, modulation, established equivalent, transposition, adaptation, particularization, linguistic amplification, linguistic compression, and calque. The result of the analysis in the translation quality shows that the captions in Pekalongan batik museum as accurate, acceptable, and readable translation.

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to explain the use of teachers’ verbal communication, teachers’ non-verbal communication, and the impact of teachers’ verbal communication and non-verbal communication on students' motivation in learning English.This study used the framework of teachers’ talk proposed by Sinclair and Brazil (1985) and Wang and Loewen (2015) to analyze the teachers’ verbal communication and non-verbal communication in the English classroom. Data were taken from lesson transcripts and teachers’ behaviors from the video recordings. Using the teachers’ utterances and teachers’ behaviors as the unit of analysis, procedures of analyzing data include: organizing and preparing the data, coding, describing, and interpreting. To validate the findings, initial results of the analysis had been examined by data source triangulation and using focused group discussion. Findings showed that the most-used teachers’ verbal communication is questioning while the most-used teachers’ non-verbal communication is hand movements and facial expressions. The most-motivating teachers’ verbal communication is questions and the most-motivating teachers’ non-verbal communication comes from facial expressions.

Abstract

Translation in Indonesia is not only used in literary or scientific texts, but also in an audio visual field such as a movie. Many movies in Indonesia come from other countries and use English language. In this case, movie subtitling is needed to make the audience understand the subtitles more easily. This study analyzed the subtitles of a movie called The English Teacher. This study used a descriptive qualitative method and employed documentation and questionnaire to collect data. The English and Indonesian movie scripts were distributed to Indonesian adult target readers to examine the techniques and its quality. In this study, a theory from Molina and Albir (2002) was used to analyze the techniques and the quality assessment was based on a theory from Nababan (2012). There were 12 techniques found in the subtitles. The most dominant technique used by the translator was literal. To analyze the translation quality, 18 respondents participated as the raters; 3 expert readers and 15 adults target readers. The results revealed that there were 1286 data. Based on Nababan, the maximum score of the quality was 3, while the average score of accuracy, acceptability, and readability was 2.67, 2.79, and 2.86. This study also found a relation between types of techniques employed in translation and its quality. It can be concluded that the qualities of the subtitles were accurate, acceptable, and readable.

Abstract

Good Corporate Governance can be understood as a set of regulations governing Limited Liability relationship between shareholders, management companies and other stakeholders with regard to the rights and obligations, one of which is the decision-making at the Board of Directors and Board of Commissioners. The provisions stipulated in the Regulation of the Minister of SOE No. PER-01 / MBU / 2011,  the publication of these regulations ultimately aims to create corporate  governance that provides added value for all parties. The research method used is a normative legal research methods that are qualitative, such methods researchers conducted a discussion of the law in legislation through legal theories that found the answers to legal issues in accordance with applicable regulations. Barriers to implementation of  Good Corporate Governance is composed of several factors, among others, legal, corporate culture and human resources, but the implementation of PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV remain committed. As part of its commitment to the forming section, which is responsible for monitoring and encouraging implementation of application in accordance with the provisions of the Law.

Abstract

Assessment of reading ability in English language learning is not directed to practice reading skills, so students assume the teaching of reading their goals solely answers questions. This study aims to design an assessment model of the ability to read short functional text in class VIII SMP with valid contents, constructs, reliable and practical. Instrument characteristics have valid and reliable scoring guidelines will provide the results of evaluation of learning in accordance with the achievement of competence in learning English. This research method is development research using Sugiyono development model. Samples of this study were 33 field test students and 100 students for usage test. The data were collected using interview guides, expert validation sheets, assessment sheets, rubrics and questionnaires. Data analysis was done on qualitative using expert hypothetical analysis and quantitative using character analysis of grains, field test analysis and usage test. The instrument shows valid content validity of 0.8 with medium criterion, reliably contents reliability of 0.731. Validity of valid construct with characteristic on path analysis each indicator has score> 0,4 ​​while value of T each indicator has score> 1,96 and for model match show all indicator R2> 0,5 then model say good fit. The reliability of instrument construct on reading aloud shows 0.898>0,70 and reading comprehension 0.895> 0,70 is said to be constructively reliable. Instrument reliability shows reading aloud 0,938 and reading comprehension 0,903 is said to be a reliable instrument. Practicality shows the result that the developed instrument is said to be practical. The developed instrument resulted in the guidance of the reading of standard functional text. The benefits of developed instruments are useful to enable teachers to administer student literacy assessments.
