Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of transformation undertaken by madrasahs and pesantren in responding to social changes in the digital era. The research employs a library research method, examining ideas, theories, and previous research findings without conducting field data collection. Data sources are derived from academic books, journal articles, research reports, and policy documents related to Islamic education and digitalization. The research process involves identifying key issues, selecting relevant literature, and conducting content analysis to discover patterns and key findings. The data analysis technique in this literature review research uses content analysis by examining, interpreting, and synthesizing various written sources systematically to understand the transformation of madrasahs and pesantren in the digital era. The results indicate that madrasahs and pesantren play a fundamental role in instilling moral, ethical, and spiritual values through their distinctive Islamic educational traditions. However, in a modern context, pesantren have also evolved into agents of community empowerment through curriculum innovation, entrepreneurship training, and the strengthening of digital literacy to prepare adaptive generations. Although globalization presents challenges such as digital inequality and resistance to change, pesantren have managed to adapt by integrating technology into learning while maintaining their Islamic identity. Thus, madrasahs and pesantren are proven to be dynamic institutions that preserve tradition while being able to transform in accordance with the demands of the times.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of School Committees in improving the quality of educational services in public elementary schools across Tanah Abang District, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency. This qualitative research employed a multiple-case study design involving three public elementary schools. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, limited participant observation, and document analysis. The analysis followed the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, enriched with pattern matching and cross-case analysis techniques. The findings reveal that the implementation of school committee roles remains largely administrative and symbolic. The advisory function is procedural rather than deliberative; supporting is incidental rather than strategic; controlling is constrained by limited capacity and transparency; and mediating lacks institutionalization. Drawing on public value governance and co-production perspectives, educational service quality requires institutional capacity building, transparency mechanisms, deliberative planning, and participatory evaluation forums. The study proposes an Integrative School Committee–Service Quality Model positioning the committee as a co-producer of educational service quality.

Abstract

Indonesia is known as a diverse nation with a wealth of cultures, ethnicities, religions, and languages. This cultural plurality is both a strength and a challenge in realizing education that is fair and inclusive, especially for minority groups. This article examines the relationship between cultural plurality and minority education from a multicultural perspective, highlighting how the national education system addresses the complexities of such diversity. The research method uses a literature study with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques involve reading and drawing conclusions from various literature sources, including books or relevant articles. Data analysis techniques include inventorying, categorizing, and analyzing research data. The study results indicate that education in Indonesia still faces challenges in terms of equal access, cultural representation, and multicultural teacher competencies. Therefore, a humanistic educational approach that is culturally just and sensitive to local values is needed so that plurality becomes an integrative strength, rather than a source of exclusion.

Abstract

The growing marginalization of traditional textual knowledge in the face of rapid socio-cultural transformation has exposed critical limitations in conventional approaches that treat texts as static and self-contained artifacts. Addressing this gap, this study reconceptualizes Wulangreh as a dynamic cultural system sustained through the interaction of textual plurality, performative practice, and community-based transmission. The study aims to develop an integrated analytical framework that explains how these dimensions collectively shape the sustainability of living textual traditions. Employing a qualitative interpretivist design, the research combines philological analysis of seven manuscript variants with performance ethnography across three pitutur communities in Magelang, Indonesia, supported by in-depth interviews, structured observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the endurance of Wulangreh does not depend on preservation in fixed textual forms but emerges through continuous social enactment, where communities actively construct and negotiate meaning. Textual variation is shown to follow structured patterns that reflect distinct transmission lineages, while performative practices selectively reorganize textual elements in response to contextual, aesthetic, and social considerations. These processes demonstrate that variation and adaptation are not indicators of instability but constitute core mechanisms of cultural resilience. This study is among the first to empirically integrate philological and performative perspectives into a unified model of textual sustainability, thereby extending the theoretical framework of performative philology. By positioning Wulangreh within the global discourse on living traditions, the study provides a new conceptual foundation for understanding how cultural texts endure in dynamic social environments and offers actionable insights for sustaining community-based knowledge systems.

Abstract

This article examines gender relations and the transformation of Islamic education within Malay tradition. The study aims to analyze how Malay cultural values interact with Islamic educational reform and how gender relations are constructed, maintained, and transformed in educational institutions and community-based religious learning spaces. Using a qualitative library research design, this study reviews recent academic literature, policy-related documents, and conceptual studies on gender, Islamic education, and Malay culture published mainly between 2018 and 2026. Data were collected through documentation, literature tracing, and thematic note-taking, then analyzed using content analysis and descriptive-critical interpretation. The findings reveal that Islamic education in Malay society is undergoing a gradual transformation from traditional, male-dominated authority structures toward more adaptive, inclusive, and socially responsive educational practices. Women's access to Islamic education and participation in social-religious activities have increased, yet gender inequality persists in leadership, institutional authority, curriculum representation, and decision-making. The study further shows that Malay tradition does not necessarily obstruct gender justice; values such as deliberation, respect for knowledge, communal harmony, and public benefit can serve as cultural capital for developing gender-responsive Islamic education. The novelty of this article lies in positioning Malay tradition not merely as a cultural background but as an analytical framework for negotiating gender justice within Islamic education. The study implies the need for curriculum reconstruction, gender-sensitive teacher capacity building, expanded women's leadership, and stronger collaboration between Islamic educational institutions, families, and Malay customary communities.
