Abstract

The number of malnutrition toddlers still exceeds the minimum number set on a national scale in Indonesia. Malnutrition occurs because of the lack of diversity in food consumption and fulfillment of energy and macronutrients in the consumption. The purpose of this research was to determine the diversity of food consumption and the level of fulfillment of energy consumption in malnutrition toddlers. The method in this research is the descriptive-analytical method with a quantitative research approach. The sampling technique uses total sampling, which includes all members of the population as samples. Diversity of consumption and level of energy fulfillment were obtained by interview using food frequency questionnaire and food recall 2x24 hours. The results of the research based on the diversity of consumption showed that the types of food commonly consumed by toddlers were rice (staple food); eggs, chicken, and fish (animal side dishes); tofu and tempeh (vegetable side dishes); spinach and carrots (vegetables); and papaya and banana (fruits). Based on the results of research on the level of energy fulfillment, as many as 39 toddlers have a deficit in energy consumption, 13 toddlers have a protein consumption deficit, 32 toddlers have a fat deficit, and 25 toddlers have a carbohydrate deficit. Recommendations in this research are addressed to the hospital to conduct outreach activities regarding knowledge of the diversity of food consumption and nutrients in foodstuffs.

Abstract

Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) prevention and control program has been conducted in Kupang City but DHF Incidence Rate (IR) is always high and exceeds the national average. Calculating the density of larvae and pupae is a good choice in calculating DHF mosquitos’ density because larvae capture is easier than mosquitoes, and pupa is the nearest stage with adult mosquitoes so can better represent actual mosquito density. This observational study used cross sectional study design was conducted in Kupang City as many 24 urban villages or 480 houses during the rainy and dry season and all containers inside and outside homes selected been observed. Larvae and pupae were collected using gamadotik then identified. Analyzed data were using multiple regression logistic test, independent t test and Anova test. This study found 781 containers with the equation model of container positivity = 2,975 lid - 0.192 material + 0.781 type - 3,706, with the most influential variable is the container lid (OR 19.5). Ae. Aegypti, Ae. Albopictus and Culex can be found in water containers both inside and outside homes. The presence of larvae can be prevented either by doing closed and drain the container regularly and bury or drying container that is not used anymore. As limitation of water supply so other solutions need to be taken such as by sprinkling temefos into container with closed tightly to reduce the container positivity 19.5 times. For greater container can be done by water draining or reuse used container outside the home into a place to plant flowers or plants or become temporary garbage.

Abstract

The condition of Kupang City has low rainfall, low rainy days and includes dry areas, but it turns out that Kupang City had always the highest incidence rate in Nusa Tenggara Timur Province and exceed the national average. This study will analyze the relationship of container characteristic to the incidence of DHF in Kupang City. This study was an observational analytic study with a case control design. The study conducted in 25 villages with total sample 500 people of DHF patients and non DHF patients in Kupang City. The research variables are number of container, water height, water volume, water pH, container type, container location, container material, container lid, and container color which were collected by doing direct observation and measuring the object of study. The collected data was processed and analyzed statistically using Independent T test and Chi Square test. The container conditions related to the incidence of DHF were the amount of container, water pH, and type of container. Whereas the container conditions that were not related to the incidence of DHF are water level, water volume, container location, container material, container cover and container color.

Abstract

Production of seaweed processing generates a huge amount of waste, either waste solid or liquid waste. For solid waste contains a lot of organic carbon derived from cellulose or hemicellulose. Therefore, the solid waste that has the potential as a raw material of activated carbon. This study aims to determine the characteristics of the activated carbon produced from solid waste agar and determine the optimal concentration of activator that produced the best characteristics of the activated carbon. The treatment used is a different activator concentration which is designed using completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and four replications. The results showed the five treatments are significant differences in the characteristics of the ash and pure active carbon content. This study shows that the manufacture of activated carbon industrial solid waste agar with a different activator concentration influence on the characteristics of the active carbon with ash content parameter and pure active carbon content. The concentration of activator that can provide the highest value of pure activated carbon is in P5 with a concentration of 6 M. Based on this study are advised to do further research on how to lower the ash content of the activated carbon from solid waste agar.
