Abstract

Purpose of the study: The rapid advancement of digital technology demands strong digital competence, particularly among civil servants in educational institutions. This study aims to examine the influence of digital competence on civil servants’ performance, investigating both direct effects and indirect pathways through employee engagement and interpersonal communication. Methodology: A quantitative survey method was employed involving 150 civil servants working in public educational institutions in Riau, Indonesia. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Main Findings: The results indicate that digital competence has a significant positive impact on performance, both directly and indirectly. Employee engagement and interpersonal communication serve as effective mediators that enhance the relationship between digital competence and performance. The findings suggest that civil servants who possess strong digital skills, coupled with high engagement and effective interpersonal communication, demonstrate better job performance. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study offers a novel contribution by integrating psychological (employee engagement) and relational (interpersonal communication) dimensions as mediators in the relationship between digital competence and performance. While previous studies have focused mainly on technological aspects, this research highlights the importance of human and social factors in driving performance in digitally transforming institutions. The implication of these findings points to the need for a more holistic approach to digital transformation policies in the public sector, where capacity building should not only address technical skills but also foster engagement and communication abilities among employees.

Abstract

This research purposed to design a Teaching Factory (TeFa) learning model based on work culture principles to enhance students’ soft skills in retail education, focusing on Public Service Management and Organization. The research was conducted at SMK Wahidin Cirebon and partner vocational schools, the model provided students with hands-on experience in authentic, service-oriented retail activities reflecting real workplace environments. The study used a Research and Development (R&D) approach, adapting Borg & Gall’s (2003) model into a Four-D Model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). Participants included 396 11th-grade Retail Business students from SMK Wahidin Cirebon and five vocational schools in West Java. The model integrated Kaizen-based work culture; which are Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, and Shitsuke; into teaching factory learning to simulate public service industry standards. Validation confirmed that the TeFa BK model met quality criteria, while trials showed its practicality (teacher performance), effectiveness (improved students’ soft skills), and positive student responses. Students achieved an average soft skills improvement of 18.36 points (p < 0.001), with consistent results across schools. The novelty lies in applying public service management and organization principles within a Kaizen-informed work culture, producing a scalable, effective Teaching Factory model for vocational retail education.

Abstract

The Khatib (Friday prayer preachers) Training of Trainers (ToT) activity conducted by Bank Indonesia Representative Office of West Java Province is aimed at improving the leadership and communication skills of Khatib in West Java Province in improving the level of Islamic economics and finance (Eksyar) understanding. The participants of this activity were 300 people consisting of Islamic boarding school representatives, Islamic community organizations, and the Indonesian Mosque Council of West Java Province. One of the challenges in Eksyar development is related to the low understanding or literacy of the community regarding Eksyar which was only 9.14% and the weak market share of Islamic economics when compared to conventional economics nationally. The key success of this Khatib ToT is the competency of speakers and the time efficiency given by the committee so that the activity was carried out in a comprehensive manner for 1 (one) day. In developing the program, collaboration with vertical and horizontal institutions was needed such as OJK, KNEKS, KDEKS of West Java Province, PT. Bank Syariah Indonesia, Tbk., MES of West Java Province, academics, and other stakeholders. Increasing understanding of Eksyar literacy is expected to encourage Indonesia's potential globally related to the development of the sharia industry.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of digital competence on the performance of Aparatur Sipil Negara or ASN or civil servants within educational institutions in Siak Regency, Indonesia. Amidst growing demands for digital transformation in public service, technical skills alone are often insufficient without the support of relational competencies such as communication. Grounded in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), this research examines how interpersonal communication mediates the relationship between digital competence and ASN performance. A quantitative explanatory approach was employed, involving 50 ASN respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires adapted from validated instruments, and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4.0. The results indicate that digital competence has a significant direct effect on ASN performance, while also indirectly enhancing performance through improved interpersonal communication. The mediating role of communication was confirmed as statistically significant, suggesting that digital competence promotes relational fluency, which in turn facilitates better task execution and coordination. These findings offer both theoretical and practical insights, particularly in the context of local public institutions in developing regions. Theoretically, the study expands the TAM framework by incorporating human interaction factors. Practically, it recommends that digital training for ASN should include not only technical modules but also communication skills development. This study concludes that sustainable digital transformation in the public sector requires simultaneous investment in both technology and people—particularly in building communicative capacity as the foundation of effective governance.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of implementing a problem-based learning (PBL) model on accounting students' critical thinking and learning outcomes. The design of this study was a quasi-experimental non-equivalent group pre-test and post-test involving 80 accounting students at Wahidin Vocational High School, Cirebon City. The pre-test and post-test results were then tested using the two-group sample t-test and paired t-test methods to test our hypotheses. As a result, we found that the PBL model improved critical thinking and student learning outcomes. In implementing the PBL model, we employed 10 learning steps, from identifying learning objectives, designing problems, encouraging students to research and find solutions to problems, and contextualizing learning outcomes. Finding solutions to problems has proven effective in building critical thinking and student learning outcomes. The discussion process between students when building the right solution to the problem can also build a better understanding and competence in the accounting field. However, teachers need to be facilitators who can encourage student participation in finding solutions and discussions.

Abstract

This study investigates the moderating role of peer support on the relationship between learning interest, learning discipline, and student motivation in a 3T (frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged) region Batuputih sub-district. While previous studies have explored these variables individually, limited research has examined how peer support interacts with interest and discipline to influence learning motivation in underdeveloped regions. Employing a quantitative approach with a survey method, data were collected from 201 grade XI students at SMAN Tupan and SMAN Benlutu using purposive sampling. A 5-point Likert scale questionnaire was administered, and sample adequacy was determined using G*Power analysis (effect size = 0.15, power = 0.95, α = 0.05), resulting in a minimum requirement of 107 participants. Data were analyzed using PLS-SEM via SmartPLS. The findings indicate that both learning interest (p = 0.027) and learning discipline (p = 0.000) significantly influence student motivation. However, peer support does not moderate these relationships, as shown by p-values of 0.744 and 0.861, respectively. These results suggest that while interest and discipline are critical drivers of motivation, peer support may not play a significant moderating role in this context. This study contributes to the understanding of motivational factors in disadvantaged educational settings and provides insights for educators in designing targeted interventions.

Abstract

Currently, the industry in Indonesia is experiencing very rapid growth. Rapid industrial growth must balance efforts to control the possibility of potential hazards in the workplace. In Indonesia, occupational safety and health have a solid legal basis. All parties must implement them, whether workers, organizations or other related parties, to protect all parties. One of the efforts made to prevent hazards in the workplace is to improve occupational safety and health standards by implementing hazard identification and risk assessment. The study aims to analyze risk management to improve employee performance. It uses the direct observation method, namely by obtaining data directly at the company, and the literature study method, which gathers information by collecting literacy and reviewing the literature results based on the facts. When the risk is successfully suppressed as small as possible, it can reduce the potential danger posed and provide a sense of security and improve employee performance and productivity in working in the company. Risk Management on the employees' performance in PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, Cilacap-Central Java, has a substantial and significant influence. It is hoped that further researchers can use the study result as reference material for research related to job satisfaction and information or complementary studies.

Abstract

Maintaining and enhancing employee loyalty and satisfaction has always been a top priority for management in every firm. This study aims to investigate the relationship between workplace spirituality, loyalty, and Generation Y employees at private organisations in Indonesia. A quantitative approach with descriptive and verification analysis techniques is used to see the picture and examine the relationship between variables. Data and information were obtained from a sample of 132 people, through the process of distributing questionnaires and surveys. Data analysis using statistical software calculation tools. The results showed that each variable has a fairly high criterion. Employee loyalty is significantly influenced by workplace spirituality and job satisfaction. The results demonstrate that workers who uphold spiritual principles at work are more likely to desire to remain with the company. The theoretical contribution of this study is that Generation Y employee loyalty can be increased by increasing job satisfaction and workplace spirituality. The growth of spiritual values needs to be supported by creating a spiritual work environment, providing fair remuneration is expected to foster loyal attitudes and behavior of employees. Research is limited to Y-generation and to objects in private tertiary institutions in Garut Regency where there is a possibility of cultural similarities, therefore further research is suggested with a wider scope.
