Abstract

This research was conducted to observe the effect of polypropylene plastic residue on heated palm oil against the histopathological changes on rat's kidney. There were 18 male rats (Rattus norvegicus) that used as the examination animal and were divided into three groups and were given the mixture of heated palm oil and polypropylene plastic per oral with intubation needle. The treatment was done for five weeks. The treatment for P0 group was 84 g of palm oil, for P1 was 84 g of palm oil with 2.3 g of plastic, and for the P2 was 84 g of palm oil with 6.8 g of plastic. The histopathological changes of the kidney were observed using microscope with 400x magnification and the data was analysed using Kruskal-Wallis and continued with Mann Whitney U test. The result showed that there were significant differences between three groups of treatment (P<0.05). There were effects of polypropylene plastic residue on heated palm oil against the histopathological changes of kidney in this research such as cast, epithelial sloughing and necrosis in the mild scale.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to learn how to use juwet nanoparticle leaf extract (Syzygium cumini) as an adjunct therapy in pulmonary histopathological mice (Mus musculus) supported by Plasmodium berghei. This study used 30 rats divided into six groups consisting of K0 (disagree without agreement), P1 (fight without agreement), P2 (fight and dispute with chloroquine), P3 (fight and talk with juwet leaf extract), P4 (useful and useful with juwet leaf extract)) and P5 (extracts and combinations given with chloropine and juwet leaf extract nanoparticles) protected by 1x105 in 0.2 ml of Plasmodium berghei. Data were analyzed by Kruskal Wallis using SPSS and continued with the Mann-Whitney test. The results of this study showed that there were significant differences (p <0.05) between P2 and P5, but did not show a significant difference (p> 0.05) with P1, P3 and P4. Based on this study, can be witnessed by juwet nanoparticles (Syzygium Cumini) additional therapeutic leaf extract which is expected to reduce pulmonary damage (hemmoragi, alveolar congestion, edema, hemosiderin) mice (Mus musculus) infected with Plasmodium berghei.

Abstract

Carbofuran is a broad spectrum carbamat insecticide which is used in various farm practices. An exposure of carbofuran has been reported able to induce Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) or free radical in kidney. Free radical caused cells damage. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of carbofuran in kidneys histopathologic of mice pup whose dam were exposed by carbofuran during the lactation period. High levels of ROS can bind to various biomolecules such as proteins, lipids and nucleic acids so that carbofuran has a negative effect on tissue functions and structures. Free radical caused changes in the pathological conditions of the tissue including the kidneys. The dams were devided into four groups of five animals each. P0 animal group was received aquadest 0,1 ml per body weight (BW), P1 animal group was treated carbofuran at the dose of 1/16 LD50 (0,3125 mg per BW), P2 animal group was treated carbofuran at the dose of 1/8 LD50 (0, 625 mg per BW), and P3 animal group was treated carbofuran at the dose of 1/4 LD50 (1,25 mg per BW). The carbofuran was exposed via oral postnatal day 1st until 9th postnatal day after delivery. At postnatal day 10th, offspring were sacrified. The kidney of mice pup was collected and processed for microscopic examination with hematoxilin-eosin staining. Microscopic observations on the histology of the mice pup kidney showed an increase in the degree of kidney damage as an increase in the dose of carbofuran given to the dams. The results showed tubular changes in the form of tubular degeneration, inflammatory cell infiltration and tubular necrosis in the kidney of mice pups.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of aflatoxin contaminated feed given for 40 days on the anatomy and histopathology of the thymus of laying hens in the starter phase. A total of 36 DOC laying hens were divided into two groups (P0 and P1). P0 (control group) was given 100% basal starter feed CP 521 and P1 (treatment group) was given 80% basal feed CP 524 plus 20% aflatoxin contaminated feed. Feeding contaminated with aflatoxin was carried out for 40 days, starting on the 20th to the 60th day after the DOC of laying hens was adapted for 20 days. The time of surgery in this study was carried out on the 20th, 40th, and 60th days, where at each surgery time the thymus organ was taken to collect weight data and histopathological preparations were made. The thymus weights based on time showed a significant decrease, but the intergroup thymus weights did not show a significant decrease. The decrease in thymus weight is caused by the involution process. Microscopic observations based on increased cell debris and congestion showed that P0 did not show a significant difference, but P1 showed a significant difference (p>0.05) on the 40th and 60th days. The conclusion in this study was that as much as 20% of feed contaminated with aflatoxins had not affected changes in thymus weight but had shown damage to the histopathological structure of the thymus.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of porang (Amorphophallus oncophyllus) tuber extract on the histopathological features of the testicle of alloxan induced rats (Rattus norvegicus). Thirty male rats were randomly divided into six groups. Rats in group C- were injected with distilled water, while rats in groups C+, T0, T1, T2, and T3 were injected with 120 mg/kg bw alloxan. Blood glucose was measured three days after alloxan injection. Rats in groups C- and C+ were then administered with 1% Na-CMC, whereas rats in groups T0, T1, T2, and T3 were then administered with 45mg/kg bw metformin, and 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg bw of porang tuber extract, respectively. All solution were given orally once every day for 14 days. Spermatogenic activity was assessed using the Johnsen scoring system and analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis, followed by the Mann-Whitney test. The diameter and epithelial thickness of the seminiferous tubule were measured using image raster software and analyzed using Anova followed by Duncan's test. The results showed that spermatogenesis score, diameter, and epithelial thickness of seminiferous tubule of group C+ were smaller (p <0.05) than group C-. Spermatogenesis scores of groups T0, T1, T2, and T3 were higher (p <0.05) than group C+. Seminiferous tubule diameter and epithelial thickness in groups T0, T1, and T2 were greater (p <0.05) than group C+. It could be concluded that porang tuber extract at a dose of 200 mg/kg bw improved the spermatogenesis score, diameter seminiferous tubule, and thickness of the epithelium of diabetic rats.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of administration of ciplukan (Physalis angulate Linn.) leaf extract on the variables of testicular weight, seminiferous tubules diameter, and spermatozoa plasma membrane integrity of rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to heat as model animals. Rats were divided randomly into five groups. In the NC group, rats were not exposed to heat and were only given 1% Na-CMC. In the PC, T1, T2, and T3 rats were exposed to heat followed by administration of 1% Na-CMC, 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg bw of ciplukan leaf extract (CLE) in 1% Na-CMC. Heat exposure at 40°C was conducted for 60 minutes every day for 21 days. On day-22, all rats were sacrificed for testicular evaluation. The results showed that all variables in the PC group were lower (p <0.05) than in the NC group. All variables in the T3 group were higher (p <0.05) than in the PC group. Testicular weight and spermatozoa plasma membrane integrity in the T3 group were not significantly different (p >0.05) from the NC group. However, the diameter of the seminiferous tubules in the T3 group were lower (p <0.05) than in the NC group. This study revealed that the administration of ciplukan leaf extract as an antioxidant increased testicular weight, seminiferous tubules diameter, and spermatozoa with intact plasma membrane in rats exposed to heat.

Abstract

Background: The toxicological impacts of monosodium glutamate (MSG), a commonly used food additive, present a significant public health concern. Excessive MSG consumption will increase radical oxidative species, inducing a stress oxidative condition that ultimately results in kidney damage. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the nephroprotective effects of ethanol extracts from Dayak onion (Eleutherine palmifolia) against MSG-induced renal toxicity in mice (Mus musculus). Method: Twenty-five 11 week-old male mice, weighing approximately 20 g each, were divided into five research groups. Group C- received only CMC-Na 0.5%, Group C+ received 4000 mg/kg BW MSG, while Groups T1, T2, and T3 were administered 4000 mg/kg BW MSG along with Dayak onion extract at doses of 30 mg/kg BW, 60 mg/kg BW, and 120 mg/kg BW respectively. All treatments were carried out orally for 52 days. The mice were euthanized by cervical dislocation, and their kidneys were extracted for the examination of any histopathological changes. The data underwent analysis utilizing the Kruskal-Wallis test, followed by the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The results as indicated by the histopathological evaluation of the mice’s kidneys revealed significant improvements in the histo-architecture of the kidneys. Supplementation of Dayak onion extract in mice induced with MSG decreased the degeneration and necrosis of the tubule epithelium, and it also repaired the glomerular necrosis. Conclusion: Oral administration of Dayak onion extract to mice exposed to monosodium glutamate demonstrated a notable reduction in kidney damage and helped maintain renal health significantly.

Abstract

Background Exposure to carbon black can induce respiratory toxicity, leading to tissue remodeling, inflammation, and fibrosis. Curcumin, a compound from Curcuma longa, has been shown to exert protective effects on lung tissue by inhibiting cell proliferation and reducing alveolar epithelial thickening and inflammatory responses. Objective This study aimed to evaluate the effect of nanocurcumin administration on alveolar septal thickness and fibrosis in the lungs of rats (Rattus norvegicus) exposed to carbon black. Methods Thirty female rats were divided into five groups: the negative control group (K-) received distilled water without carbon black exposure; the positive control group (K+) received distilled water and was exposed to carbon black at a dose of 1064 mg/m³ for 6 hours; and treatment groups P1, P2, and P3 received nanocurcumin at doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg body weight, respectively, along with carbon black exposure at a dose of 1064 mg/m³ for 6 hours/day over 30 days. Results Alveolar septal thickness and fibrosis in the P1, P2, and P3 groups showed significant reductions (P<0.05) compared to the K+ group. Notably, groups P2 and P3 exhibited similar alveolar septal thickness to the K- group, with statistically lower (P<0.05) fibrosis levels than P1 but not significantly different from K- (P>0.05). Conclusion Nanocurcumin administration demonstrates potential in mitigating alveolar septal thickening and fibrosis in rat lungs subjected to carbon black exposure, suggesting a protective role against pulmonary damage from particulate matter.

Abstract

Acathina fulica is a terrestrial mollusk that often invades terrestrial vegetation that has tropical and subtropical climates. Acathina fulica has been widely reported in environments as diverse as urban areas, forests, capoeiras, caatings, plantations, decomposing materials, savannahs and vegetable gardens. Soil is source of food and a defense strategy for A. fulica, therefore it has an important role for them. Therefore, A. fulica may be host several species of nematodes. Microscopic examination of snails A. fulica fecal samples in Cemorokandang Village, Malang City using the native method aimed to detect Rhabditis spp. The results showed that 14 (12.5%) out of 112 samples contained Rhabditis spp. The genus rhabditis belongs to the Rhabditidae family and is one of the free-living nematodes. This species has long been known and of concern in the veterinary world. The genus rhabditis has been reported to have infected humans and have been isolated from urine samples, vaginal swab, and human stool. The research was conducted in the dry season with low rainfall. Nematode of the genus Rhabditis spp. can be naturally found in humid places and decaying organic matter.

Abstract

Toxoplasmosis is one of the zoonotic diseases caused by the protozoa Toxoplasma gondii. The disease infects warm-blooded animals including humans. The purpose of this study was to determine the contamination of Toxoplasma oocysts in water sources in goat-sheep farms in Sidoarjo Regency. A total of 63 water samples were used for the study. Water samples were taken from 5 sub-districts that have many goat-sheep farms, each sub-district has 2 villages, with each village having 6-7 samples. The examination used the floating method and was examined under a microscope with a magnification of 400x. The results of the examination found 21 samples of Toxoplasma gondii oocysts or 33.33% (21/63). The morphology of T.gondii oocysts is round, ovoid or ellipsoid with sizes varying between 8.02 - 12.72 micrometers. Preventive measures are needed by treating water before giving it to livestock.
