Abstract

The increasing presence of Generation Z in the Indonesian workforce has driven organizations to reassess leadership approaches and organizational practices to meet evolving employee expectations. This study aims to examine the effect of participative leadership style and supportive organizational culture on job satisfaction among Generation Z employees in Indonesia, with work-life balance serving as an intervening variable. A quantitative explanatory research design was employed, and data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to Generation Z employees across various industries using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results indicate that participative leadership and supportive organizational culture have significant positive effects on job satisfaction. Both variables also significantly influence work-life balance, which, in turn, has the strongest positive effect on job satisfaction. Furthermore, work-life balance was found to partially mediate the relationship between participative leadership and job satisfaction as well as between supportive organizational culture and job satisfaction. These findings highlight the importance of inclusive leadership practices and supportive organizational environments in fostering work-life balance and enhancing job satisfaction among Generation Z employees. This study contributes to the human resource management literature by empirically validating the mediating role of work-life balance and provides practical insights for organizations seeking to improve job satisfaction and retention of Generation Z employees.

Abstract

The low level of digital literacy and minimal use of information technology (IT) remain major obstacles to accelerating development in North Surabaya Village, East Sakra District. This condition causes village administrative services to run less efficiently, and elementary school students are unprepared for digital era challenges, such as the Computer-Based National Assessment (ANBK). This Community Service Activity (PKM) aims to provide solutions through comprehensive IT education and technical training as an initial step toward realizing a digitally literate society. The activity implementation method uses a participatory approach involving needs observation, socialization on the importance of digital transformation, and hands-on training. The target audience includes village officials, the general public, and students of SDN 1 North Surabaya. Training materials are tailored to the target needs, covering basic computer operation, office applications for administration, healthy internet use, and an introduction to digital economic potential. The results of this activity show a significant increase in participants' understanding and skills, where village officials began to operate basic applications to support administration, and students became more confident in using computers as learning media. This activity successfully served as a catalyst for changing the community's mindset from conventional to more adaptive to technology while laying the initial foundation for North Surabaya Village to become an independent digital village

Abstract

The issue of waste has become one of the most important concerns worldwide, requiring serious attention from all segments of society. This is due to the increasing volume of waste along with the growing population. Many villages face major problems in terms of ineffective waste management systems and the low public awareness regarding waste management, especially in the Surabaya Village Office, East Lombok Regency, which negatively impacts health and the comfort of public spaces. The Surabaya Village Office, as a public service center, plays an important role in creating a clean, healthy, conducive, and productive work environment. An effort to modernize conventional waste management in the Surabaya Village Office is by designing an automatic trash bin system based on Arduino using ultrasonic sensors to automatically open and close the trash bin. This aims to avoid direct physical contact and unpleasant odors. The utilization of Arduino technology provides an innovative solution for waste management. The results of the innovation in making an automatic trash bin using Arduino can improve the effectiveness and efficiency of waste management in the Surabaya Village Office

Abstract

Background: Japanese and Javanese are two languages rich in philosophy. One of the most prominent Japanese philosophies is "Ikigai," while in Javanese it is "Urip iku urup." These philosophies offer distinct yet potentially complementary perspectives on the concept of meaningful living. Objectives: This study aims to examine and compare the two philosophies based on their conceptual foundations and applications in everyday life. Method: This study employs a descriptive-qualitative approach. Data were collected through library research using texts related to the philosophies of "Ikigai" and "Urip iku urup," supplemented by observation based on the author's personal experience. Result: Both philosophies share a common emphasis on the importance of living a meaningful life, asserting that life extends beyond mere physical existence and holds values worth pursuing. The "Ikigai" philosophy centers on balancing passion, expertise, and personal financial fulfillment, as reflected in Japanese society's disciplined culture and in business models integrating passion, mission, vocation, and professionalism. The "Urip iku urup" philosophy, by contrast, prioritizes external goals oriented toward benefiting others, as exemplified by figures such as H.O.S. Tjokroaminoto and Peter Carey, and in various communal practices in Javanese society. Conclusion: Despite originating from geographically distant cultures, both philosophies are universal in nature and applicable across cultural boundaries.

Abstract

Minapadi is a term for the integrated cultivation of rice and fish. This study aimed to: (1) determine the potential of insect pests from the rice field ecosystem as a natural feed source for catfish in a Minapadi system; and (2) analyze the system's effectiveness in naturally controlling insect pest populations in rice. Three experimental plots were established: Plot A combined a rice field with acatfish pond equipped with a light trap; Plot B combined a rice field with a catfish pond without a light trap; and Plot C was a rice field alone, serving as a control. The methodology encompassed land preparation and plot layout, maintenance of rice and catfish, insect sampling, measurement of rice plant growth parameters, assessment of catfish weight and protein content, and statistical data analysis. The potential of insects as feed was indicated by the significant abundance of captured insects, categorized as either pests or natural enemies. Insect abundance across all plots increased weekly during observations. The insect pest diversity index was moderate in the integrated plots (A and B) and low in the control plot (C). The diversity index for natural enemies was moderate acrossall three plots. Statistical analysis revealed that the variation in insect pest abundance and diversity did not significantly influence the protein content levels measured in the catfish. Over all, Minapadi framework demonstrates promise as a component of integrated pest management however supplemental strategies such as light traps may be necessary to enhance control of specific pestpopulations.
