Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine the effectiveness of a hybrid instructional model integrating Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Differentiated Instruction (DI) to improve procedural writing skills among fifth-grade elementary students in Indonesia. Novelty: The study introduces a combined PBL–DI framework within a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, specifically applied to genre-based procedural writing instruction in diverse elementary classrooms. Methods: The research employed a two-cycle Classroom Action Research (CAR) design involving 31 students. Learners engaged in real-world writing tasks tailored to their readiness levels, interests, and learning profiles. Data were collected through writing assessments, observation sheets, reflection journals, field notes, and interviews, and analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. Results: Student writing mastery improved significantly from 32% in the pre-action stage to 84% at the end of Cycle II. Qualitative findings indicated increased engagement, greater autonomy in writing, and enhanced self-efficacy. Contextual problem-solving tasks, scaffolded support, and iterative teacher reflection contributed to both cognitive and affective development. Conclusions: Integrating PBL and DI provides an effective, student-centered framework for enhancing procedural writing skills and offers a promising approach for genre-based writing instruction in diverse elementary school settings.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ perceptions of the use of website-based learning media in Natural Science (IPA) instruction at the elementary school level. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method involving fifth-grade students at an elementary school in Indonesia. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the utilization of website-based learning media has a positive impact on students’ learning processes. The media enhance learning motivation through engaging and interactive features, strengthen conceptual understanding through visual and contextual material presentation, and foster learning independence by allowing students to manage their study time and strategies autonomously. Moreover, the use of website media contributes to improved learning outcomes, the development of digital literacy, and the promotion of social collaboration through online discussions and interactions among students. The successful implementation of this digital media is supported by factors such as technology accessibility, teacher competence in using digital tools, and the alignment of learning materials with the curriculum. Overall, the findings affirm that website-based learning media play a strategic role in creating innovative, meaningful, and 21st-century-oriented science learning experiences

Abstract

In the 21st century, learning is still dominated by teachers as a source of learning, so that students only get knowledge from teachers. If learning activities only come from teachers, students are not used to linking lesson materials with problems that occur in everyday life, and this causes them to lose critical thinking skills. Thus, teachers must choose the right learning model to train critical thinking skills. One learning model that can be used to improve students' critical thinking skills is the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the problem based learning model on critical thinking skills in the Pancasila Education subject of grade IV students. The research method used was quantitative research using the experimental method. The results of this study showed that the average posttest score of the experimental class was 80.60, while the average posttest score of the control class was 65.80. The results of the t-test hypothesis test obtained the results of the analysis that the Sig. (2-Tailed) value was 0.001 <0.05. It can be concluded that the null hypothesis Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, meaning that there is a difference in students' critical thinking in Pancasila Education learning between the experimental class and the control class. With the difference in learning models used, it is proven that the Problem Based Learning learning model has a significant influence on critical thinking in Pancasila Education of grade IV students.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of fifth-grade elementary students’ narrative writing skills, analyze their learning needs in narrative writing, and formulate the characteristics of instructional media responsive to students’ actual conditions. A mixed-methods approach with a sequential exploratory design was employed, involving 31 fifth-grade students from SDN Kayu Putih 08 Pagi as participants. Quantitative data were obtained through an assessment of narrative writing skills using a four-dimensional rubric (ideas, organization, diction, spelling and punctuation) and analyzed descriptively. Qualitative data were collected through a needs analysis questionnaire and analyzed thematically. The results indicate that 70.97% of students are in the low category, with an average score of 47.98 out of 100. The main difficulty encountered is generating writing ideas (83.87%), with story writing identified as the most challenging material (64.52%). Students prefer interactive learning activities such as role-playing (35.48%) and the use of digital media (45.16%). The characteristics of responsive instructional media include being interactive and digital-based, providing systematic support at every writing stage, fostering imagination through visual stimuli, offering diverse narrative content, delivering constructive feedback, user-friendly interfaces, support for differentiated learning, and facilitating collaboration. The findings underscore the urgency of developing innovative digital media to adaptively and contextually enhance elementary students’ narrative writing skills.

Abstract

The complexity of contemporary social challenges demands character education that not only transmits values but also deeply internalizes moral values in elementary school students, particularly through Social Studies (IPS) learning. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Value Clarification Technique (VCT) in strengthening moral knowing and tolerance attitudes, map variations in implementation practices, and identify factors influencing its successful application. The method employed is a systematic literature review (SLR) using the PRISMA protocol, with primary research articles sourced from Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Portal Garuda databases for the period 2021–2025. Twenty articles meeting the inclusion criteria were thematically analyzed. The results show that VCT consistently and significantly enhances students' moral reasoning, tolerance, empathy, and responsibility through a structured value reflection mechanism. Implementation variations include integration with innovative media (such as Pop Up Books, puzzles), project-based assessments, and structured philosophical dialogues. The success of VCT implementation is influenced by teachers’ pedagogical competence, students’ initial moral readiness, family environment support, duration of exposure, and the quality of presented moral dilemmas. Practical implications emphasize the importance of teacher training and VCT integration in character education curricula. This study affirms VCT as a holistic and adaptive approach to strengthening elementary students’ character, while recommending further experimental and longitudinal research to examine its long-term impact.

Abstract

Abstract

Social skills are important competencies that shape the quality of interactions, adaptability, and the holistic development of elementary school students in social life. This study aims to map research development trends, identify dominant methodological approaches, and synthesize factors influencing the social skills of elementary school students in Indonesia in the 2020–2025 period. The study used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach with systematic procedures to identify, select, and analyze articles. A total of 20 articles that met the inclusion criteria were obtained from three main databases: Google Scholar, ERIC, and Garuda Kemdikbud. Data were analyzed qualitatively using a synthesis matrix and thematic analysis to identify patterns in research findings. The study's results indicate an increase in research publications on the social skills of elementary school students during the 2020–2025 period. In addition, the most dominant research method used was a descriptive qualitative approach, followed by quantitative and mixed methods. Thematic analysis also revealed five main factors influencing students' social skills: the use of innovative learning models, the quality of classroom management, the integration of local wisdom values, the impact of digital technology, and the level of family involvement in children's education. These findings indicate that developing elementary school students' social skills requires a holistic, collaborative approach that integrates teachers, families, and the social environment to support students' optimal social development.
