Abstract

This research was conducted to obtain a guided discovery learning implementation profile with virtual lab assistance and problem-solving skills for high school students on gas kinetic theory. The type of research was descriptive preliminary research, without hypothesis testing. The research subjects consisted of 106 students in senior high school. This study used qualitative descriptive analysis from questionnaires and online tests. This study revealed that the level of students’ problem-solving skills was low. This case was proven by 102 students (27 male; 75 female) in the low category with a score range of 0 to 45, and four students in the moderate category with a score range of 46 to 75, while there were no students in the high category with a score range of 76 to 100. This research implies that there is a need for a guided discovery learning model with the help of a virtual lab to analyze the problem-solving skills of high school students, especially on gas kinetic theory.

Abstract

This research was conducted to describe the implementation of teaching and learning activities using the Quizizz-based Team Games Tournament (QTGT) method in improving the physics problem-solving skills of senior high school students. The method of this study used preliminary research with data collection techniques in the form of written tests, which data acquisition will be analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The research was conducted on 100 students of 11th science grade from one of the Islamic high school in Gresik Regency. The results of the research show that: 1) The problem-solving skills of students in the low category with a score range of 0-50 as many as 92 students divided into 11 male students and 81 female students and the medium category in the range of score 51-75 as many as 8 students divided into 2 male students and 6 female students. 2) The lowest problem-solving skills criteria are found in the indicator C - Conceptualize the strategy (outlining the steps to be used in problem-solving) with an average score of 4.31, 3) The application of the Quizizz-based Team Games Tournament (QTGT) method is expected to improve students' physics problem-solving skills. So, it can be concluded that to improve students' physics problem-solving skills, the need for innovations in the implementation of learning such as the application of learning models and cutting-edge learning media that are packaged attractively and adapted to the current era of globalization.

Abstract

Textbooks currently circulating have not been adapted to online learning systems and their contents are less interactive, less communicative, and have not been based on local content potential. This research aimed to produce digital textbooks based on Madura local content and augmented reality to improve students’ scientific reasoning ability. This research development was done based on ASSURE instructional design, between July and August 2020. This research involved 15 students of SMP Al-Hikam Burneh, Bangkalan-Madura. The assessments of the digital textbook were done to decide its validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Furthermore, the students’ scientific reasoning abilities were measured using pretest and posttest. The validity data obtained were analyzed descriptively using percentages, while students’ scientific reasoning skills were analyzed using gain scores. The results showed that the percentage values were 87.5% for content validity (valid), 91.10% for media (very valid), 87.41% for technical (very valid), and 88.9% for practicality (valid). In addition, the students’ scientific reasoning skills were classified as effective based on the gain scores achieved in each indicator i.e., 0.49 (argumentation), 0.45 (existing knowledge), 0.38 (methodology), 0.43 (analysis), and 0.40 (concluding). Thus, the digital textbook developed is effective to improve students’ scientific reasoning skills.

Abstract

The teaching material for Physics based on collaborative creativity learning (CCL) model is by design to improve scientific creativity, collaborative skills, and science process skills of junior high school students. The focus of this research is to analyze the teaching materials based on CCL model in terms of their validity (content and construct, reliable) and effectiveness to improve students scientific creativity in the science lesson, particularly for Physics education. The validity and effectiveness of the teaching material were measured by using Validation Assessment Sheet (VAS) and Scientific Creativity Assessment Sheet (SCAS). The data were analysed through mean validity score, Cronbachs coefficient alpha, Wilcoxon test, N-gain, and Mann Whitney test. The results of this study include: (1) validity of the the CCL-based teaching materials for Physics fulfill validity criteria (valid and reliable); (2) in terms of components of validity, the CCL-based teaching materials for Physics: (a) there is an increase of students scientific creativity with the alpha of α = 0.05, (b) the average score of students scientific creativity was in medium category, and (c) there is no significant different improvement (consistent) of scientific creativity skills in all groups. The implication of this developmental research of CCL-based teaching materials for Physics has proven to be valid and effective to increase the scientific creativity of junior high school students, particularly in Motions and Simple Machine chapters.

Abstract

In this industrial revolution 4.0 era, professional science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) bachelor must have various skills. One of which is problem-solving skills. The development of problem-solving skills (PSS) is very important in higher education. Students must have PSS that must be improved to become excellent graduates, including physics bachelor candidates. Many physics bachelor candidates lack problem-solving skills. This problem is the basis for developing innovative learning models based online that, by design, can improve the problem-solving skills of physics bachelor candidates in the COVID-19 pandemic. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness ORNE learning model in improving the problem-solving skills of physics bachelor candidates as an alternative to online learning in the COVID-19 pandemic. The research design used a true-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design with 58 physics bachelor candidates. Data collected using the problem-solving skills test and then analyzed using the Paired Sample Test, Effect Size, N-gain, and Independent Sample Test. The results showed that the ORNE learning model proved effective in improving physics bachelor candidates' problem-solving skills. This research implies that the ORNE learning model can improve physics bachelor candidates' problem-solving skills as an alternative to online learning in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This literature study aims to obtain the thinking process profile of senior high school students in physics problem-solving based on differences in emotional intelligence levels and gender. In this study used literature study method with phenomenological analysis, functionalism analysis, and critical analysis. The sources used to compile this article include some literature on emotional intelligence, gender effect, thinking process, problem-solving, and several empirical study on students in physics problem-solving, especially in senior high school. The authors summed up the conclusions based on the results of the literature study as follows: (1) The profile of the thinking process is influenced by emotional intelligence level and gender; (2) Emotional intelligence is directly proportional to the thinking process of students in the process of solving physics problems; (3) Students who have high emotional intelligence are more likely to have high physics problem-solving skills; (4) Gender differences (male and female) in solving physics problems, generally, are still debatable, in which sense is it better? Then it further research needs that is valid and reliable to answer this question. (5) There is a strong tendency that the male gender is more resilient in dealing with and solving complex physics problems; (6) The gender of female students is superior in solving physics problems that require very high detail. The main implication of this article is to obtain the thinking process profile of senior high school students in physics problem-solving based on terms of differences in emotional intelligence levels and gender.

Abstract

This study aims to get a profile of students' problem-solving skills and the implementation of structured inquiry models in senior high schools. This type of research used in this study is preliminary research, with data collection techniques in the form of student interview questionnaires, teacher interviews, and written tests. Then the data that has been obtained will be analyzed descriptively qualitatively. This research was conducted on 24 students of class XII-SCIENCE in one of the high schools in the district of Gresik. Based on the results of the study found findings in the form of 1) The ability of students to solve problems in the low category with a range of grades from 0 to 1.00 as many as 11 students and the medium category with a range of grades from 1.01-2.00 as many as 13 students, 2) Criteria for the lowest problem-solving skills at point A- Assen the problem (Identifying the principles of the problem needed to solve the problem) with an average value of 0.375, 3) The application of structured inquiry models is expected to be able to improve problems solving skills possessed by students. It can be concluded if the problems solving skills possessed by students are low, so it is necessary to increase the problems solving skills of students by using new learning methods that have never been taught to students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the profile of students' problem-solving skills and the implementation of free inquiry models in high school. This type of research conducted using preliminary research methods with data collection techniques in the form of written tests filled out by students, student interview questionnaires, and teacher interview questionnaires. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The study was conducted on 30 students of class XII Science 5 of Senior High School 1 Driyorejo. The results showed that only a few students used the strategy of problem-solving skills in solving Dynamic Electric problems. Of all students studied, 16 students had moderate category problem-solving skills ranging from 1.00-1.99, and 14 students had low category problem-solving skills with a range of 0.00-0.99. The lowest problem-solving skills criteria are at point C (conceptualize the strategy). So it can be concluded that the implementation of a free inquiry learning model assisted by virtual laboratories (PhET) in schools does not optimally cause students to be inactive in class so that the problem-solving skills of students are not in the high category.

Abstract

The Indonesian National Qualification Framework in higher education requires universities to develop a curriculum that makes students have superior competence with a variety of skills that are in line with the demands of the 21st century, including Critical thinking skills. The main objective of this research is to analyze the practicality of the OR-IPA learning model, which has been developed by design to improve the critical thinking skill of prospective physics teachers on the fundamentals of physics courses. The subject of practical observations was a physics lecturer who used the OR-IPA learning model. The observation sheet of the OR-IPA learning model practicality has been declared valid and reliable by the validators. The data analysis technique uses descriptive qualitative. The results showed that the OR-IPA learning model to improve the critical thinking skill of prospective physics teachers was considered practical (3.69). Lecturers and students can use the OR-IPA learning model without significant obstacles. This research implies that the OR-IPA learning model can be an alternative to improve the critical thinking skill of prospective physics teachers in the fundamentals of physics courses.

Abstract

Abstract: Result of a preliminary study showed that in general the collaborative problem solving skills, science process skills, and confidence of students of SMA Negeri 19 Surabaya, SMAN 1 Tegaldlimo, MA Roudlotun Nasyin Mojokerto are still low. Therefore, researchers developed a model instructional group science learning to enhance collaborative problem solving skills, science process skills, and confidence. The purpose of this research is to get validity of Group Science Learning (GSL) developed to improve collaborative problem solving skills, science process skills, and confidence. Methods of data collection validation using Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Group science learning model developed needs to be validated by experts through Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Group science learning model assessed the validity of the learning model based on content validity and construct validity. Results of the validation by experts through focus group discussions indicate that group science learning model to improve the collaborative problem solving skills, science process skills, and confidence in this study are included in the category of very valid. This group science learning model can be implemented in learning to improve the collaborative problem solving skills, science process skills, and confidence. Keywords:  content validity, construct validity,  and group science learning model  Abstrak: Hasil studi awal menunjukkan bahwa secara umum keterampilan pemecahan masalah kolaboratif, keterampilan proses sains, dan kepercayaan diri siswa SMA Negeri 19 Surabaya, SMA Negeri 1 Tegaldlimo, MA Roudlotun Nasyin Mojokerto masih rendah. Oleh karena itu peneliti bermaksud mengembangkan model group science learning. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan validitas model Group Science Learning  yang dikembangkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pemecahan masalah kolaboratif, keterampilan proses sains, dan kepercayaan diri. Metode pengumpulan data validasi menggunakan Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Validitas model pembelajaran Group Science Learning dinilai berdasarkan validitas isi dan validitas konstruk. Hasil validasi oleh pakar melalui FGD menunjukkan bahwa model Group Science Learning untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pemecahan masalah kolaboratif, keterampilan proses sains, dan kepercayaan diri dalam penelitian ini termasuk dalam kategori sangat valid. Model Group Science Learning dapat diimplementasikan dalam pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pemecahan masalah kolaboratif, keterampilan proses sains, dan kepercayaan diri.Kata Kunci: Validitas isi, validitas konstruk,  dan group science learning model
