Abstract

This study explores the role of choir activities in fostering character development and cooperative learning among elementary school students at a Christian school in East Nusa Tenggara. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observations, documentation, and informal interviews with students and teachers involved in the choir program. The findings reveal that choir participation significantly enhances students’ social and emotional development, musical skills, and personal discipline. Students learn cooperation through group rehearsals, where each individual’s voice contributes to the overall harmony, instilling a sense of responsibility and teamwork. Regular practices and public performances help students build confidence, manage emotions, and express themselves creatively. Furthermore, involvement in competitions such as singing competition provides a platform for real-world application of their skills, reinforcing values such as perseverance and collaboration. The choir also serves as an inclusive learning space that supports the growth of various talents and promotes positive peer relationships. The study suggests that choir activities are effective in supporting the holistic development of students and should be integrated more broadly into educational programs to cultivate not only artistic talent but also essential character traits. These findings have implications for the implementation of character-based and culturally responsive education in Indonesian schools.

Abstract

This research was conducted over three learning sessions. The subjects were second-grade students at SDN Cibeureum Mandiri 2, Cimahi City, in the 2025/2026 academic year. There were 34 students in this class. This research was motivated by low student activity during learning and a lack of comprehension of fictional stories, resulting in declining learning outcomes. The main objectives of developing and implementing this learning model were to improve learning comprehension, preserve students' traditional game culture, and improve student learning outcomes using the Game-Based Learning (GBL) model assisted by Smart Hafiz and Traditional Games. Data were obtained from student learning activities and employed the Kemmis & McTaggart research design through CAR. Data analysis was calculated based on instruments and indicators in the form of pretests and posttests with 10 questions. The data analysis technique used was the Completion Indicator. The results of the Formative Assessment study on student activity showed a significant increase in student learning outcomes, from 65% (fairly good) in the first meeting to 80% (very good) in the second meeting. Student activity increased to 95% (mostly active) in the third meeting. Analysis of learning outcomes showed a 70% pretest in the first meeting, an 87% pretest in the second meeting, and a 100% pretest in the third meeting. Overall, this study concluded that the combination of learning models was effective in improving student activity and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Pembelajaran di sekolah dasar perlu dirancang secara kontekstual agar mampu meningkatkan kualitas belajar siswa. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan adalah melalui penerapan pembelajaran lokal yang sederhana dengan memanfaatkan lingkungan dan budaya setempat sebagai sumber belajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan pembelajaran lokal yang sederhana serta dampaknya terhadap kualitas belajar siswa di sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif yang dilaksanakan di SD Bobou. Subjek penelitian meliputi guru kelas, kepala sekolah, serta pihak-pihak yang terlibat langsung dalam proses pembelajaran. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara. Data dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan pembelajaran lokal yang sederhana mampu meningkatkan kualitas belajar siswa dari aspek kognitif, afektif, dan psikomotor. Pembelajaran yang memanfaatkan lingkungan sekitar dan benda-benda sederhana membuat siswa lebih mudah memahami materi, lebih aktif dalam proses pembelajaran, serta menunjukkan sikap positif terhadap belajar dan lingkungan. Meskipun terdapat kendala seperti perbedaan kemampuan siswa dan keterbatasan waktu perencanaan pembelajaran, penerapan pembelajaran lokal yang sederhana tetap dinilai efektif dan relevan untuk diterapkan di sekolah dasar. Dengan demikian, pembelajaran lokal yang sederhana dapat dijadikan sebagai alternatif strategi pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kualitas belajar siswa sekolah dasar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan strategi pengembangan keterampilan guru dalam memberikan penguatan pada pembelajaran anak usia dini di TKK Negeri Harapan Bangsa. Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah masih ditemukannya proses pembelajaran yang kurang variatif serta pemberian penguatan yang belum konsisten dan belum berorientasi pada proses usaha anak, sehingga berdampak pada rendahnya keaktifan dan motivasi belajar anak. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian adalah guru dan anak didik di TKK Negeri Harapan Bangsa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru telah menerapkan penguatan dalam bentuk pujian verbal dan pemberian kesempatan bermain, namun pelaksanaannya masih bersifat umum dan belum variatif. Penguatan yang diberikan secara langsung dan spesifik setelah anak menyelesaikan tugas terbukti mampu meningkatkan antusiasme, rasa percaya diri, serta keaktifan anak dalam proses pembelajaran. Namun demikian, masih diperlukan pengembangan strategi penguatan yang lebih kreatif, konsisten, dan sesuai dengan karakteristik anak usia dini. Dengan penerapan strategi penguatan yang tepat waktu, variatif, dan berorientasi pada proses, pembelajaran anak usia dini dapat berlangsung lebih menyenangkan dan efektif, serta mendukung perkembangan kognitif, sosial, dan emosional anak secara optimal.

Abstract

This study is grounded in the importance of learning independence as a foundation for young children’s academic readiness and self-regulation; however, its implementation at home is often shaped by variations in parental habituation practices and family constraints. The study aims to describe parents’ habituation methods in educating children, identify habituation practices used to foster children’s learning independence, and map the constraints faced by parents in Bajawa District. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through interviews with parents and teachers and observations of children during learning activities, then analyzed thematically and validated through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that parental habituation is reflected in adaptive learning schedules, routines of preparing and tidying learning materials, the provision of simple tasks accompanied by opportunities for children to take initiative, and appreciation for independent efforts. In school, learning independence is indicated by initiative to start activities, responsibility, discipline, self-confidence, and problem-solving ability. Variation emerged in step-by-step assistance because some parents tended to take over tasks, reducing children’s opportunities to practice. Major constraints included limited time due to work, a less conducive home learning environment, fluctuating moods, and low attention during learning. These findings highlight the need for consistent yet flexible habituation, improved quality of step-by-step guidance, and strengthened home–school collaboration to support children’s learning independence

Abstract

This study aims to describe the differences in literacy skills of early childhood children based on positive and negative parenting patterns at Harapan Bangsa Kindergarten in Bajawa. Literacy skills were assessed through three aspects: language comprehension, language expression, and literacy. The study used a comparative quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Data were obtained from 50 children through a parenting questionnaire filled out by parents, then respondents were categorized into positive parenting patterns (n = 32) and negative parenting patterns (n = 18). Analysis of differences was conducted using the nonparametric Mann–Whitney U test. The results showed a significant difference in literacy skills between the two groups (p < 0.05) with a large effect size, where children who received positive parenting patterns had higher literacy skills than children who received negative parenting patterns. Significant differences were also consistent in the three aspects of literacy, namely language comprehension, language expression, and literacy. These findings emphasize the importance of strengthening positive parenting patterns and home–school collaboration in creating an environment that supports language and literacy stimulation from an early age. This study is limited by its cross-sectional design and self-reported parenting measurements, which prevent direct causal conclusions. This study provides an original contextual contribution to early childhood education units in the Bajawa region, providing a comprehensive analysis of three aspects of literacy simultaneously, a topic that has been limited in previous research.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis peran kultur sekolah sebagai strategi dalam menjaga ketenangan dan kedisiplinan siswa di SDK Sawu. Kultur sekolah diyakini memiliki pengaruh signifikan dalam membentuk perilaku siswa melalui pembiasaan, keteladanan, dan penanaman nilai-nilai positif yang diterapkan secara konsisten dalam kehidupan sekolah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian meliputi kepala sekolah, guru, tenaga kependidikan, dan siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berbagai aspek budaya sekolah telah diterapkan dengan baik, seperti budaya 3S (senyum, sapa, salam), pelaksanaan doa bersama, upacara bendera, penggunaan seragam, dan penguatan karakter melalui kegiatan kokurikuler dan ekstrakurikuler. Kultur tersebut memberikan kontribusi positif terhadap terciptanya suasana belajar yang tenang dan kondusif serta membentuk sikap disiplin siswa dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Meskipun masih terdapat beberapa tantangan seperti kurangnya kesadaran sebagian siswa dalam menjaga kebersihan dan penggunaan bahasa yang sopan, secara keseluruhan kultur sekolah di SDK Sawu telah menjadi strategi efektif dalam mendukung pembentukan karakter dan kedisiplinan siswa.

Abstract

This study examined the learning needs of Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) across elementary, junior high, and senior high public schools in Golewa District, Ngada Regency, Indonesia. The study used a descriptive survey with embedded qualitative interviews to capture both the measurable condition of PJOK implementation and teachers’ contextual experiences. The participants were nine PJOK teachers selected through total sampling from nine public schools, comprising three elementary schools, three junior high schools, and three senior high schools. Quantitative data were collected using a 24-item questionnaire on a four-point Likert scale covering teacher competence, facilities and infrastructure, learning tools, and school management support; qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured interviews. The instrument demonstrated acceptable content validity through expert judgment and satisfactory internal consistency for school-based needs mapping. Descriptive statistics were used to calculate mean scores, while interview transcripts were analysed thematically. The results indicated that the overall level of PJOK learning need remained moderate at all three educational levels, with mean scores of 2.83 in elementary schools, 2.80 in junior high schools, and 2.64 in senior high schools. The most pressing need at the elementary level was teacher competence (M = 2.27), whereas the sharpest gap at the senior high school level concerned curriculum-based learning tools (M = 1.53). Interview findings reinforced these patterns by showing recurring concerns about limited professional development, uneven equipment maintenance, and insufficient instructional documents. The study concludes that improving PJOK in rural schools requires level-sensitive interventions that combine teacher development, better instructional resources, and stronger managerial support.

Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Wordwall Puzzle educational game application, integrated with Ngada local culture "Ngadhu-Bhaga," in improving early childhood language skills. Low language proficiency observed at TKN Bobou necessitated this intervention. Using a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design, 13 children aged 5–6 years (Group B) were selected via purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and language tests, then analyzed using a Paired Sample t-test. Results indicated a significant improvement in language skills, with the mean score increasing from 10.15 in the pretest to 13.85 in the posttest. Statistical analysis revealed a t-value of -8.056 and a p-value of < .001, indicating significant differences after the intervention. Cohen’s d analysis showed a very large effect size, suggesting that digital media relevant to a child's cultural environment effectively stimulates receptive and expressive language. The integration of local culture serves as a cognitive bridge, making learning more meaningful and contextual.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran keluarga dalam pembentukan karakter dan motivasi belajar anak usia prasekolah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan subjek penelitian terdiri atas orang tua anak usia prasekolah yang dipilih secara purposive. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peran keluarga dalam pembentukan karakter dan motivasi belajar anak diwujudkan melalui praktik pengasuhan sehari-hari, seperti pemberian teladan, komunikasi yang intensif, pembiasaan perilaku positif, serta pemberian dukungan emosional dan belajar di rumah. Orang tua tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai pengarah perilaku, tetapi juga sebagai fasilitator yang menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang kondusif. Temuan juga menunjukkan bahwa keterlibatan orang tua berkontribusi terhadap munculnya sikap disiplin, tanggung jawab, serta minat anak dalam mengikuti aktivitas belajar. Namun demikian, peran tersebut tidak berlangsung secara seragam, melainkan dipengaruhi oleh pola asuh, latar belakang keluarga, serta intensitas interaksi antara orang tua dan anak. Oleh karena itu, temuan penelitian ini bersifat kontekstual dan tidak dapat digeneralisasi secara luas. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa keluarga memiliki posisi strategis dalam membentuk karakter dan motivasi belajar anak usia prasekolah melalui praktik pengasuhan yang konsisten dan kontekstual.
